Hello everybody!
Yes, long time no write. It has been an extremely busy and exciting past few
months for
me. I have been working very hard but have also managed to get some time to
relax as
well. I was able to take a break and go to Japan and do one of my favorite
sports,
snowboarding! I have snowboarded since I was sixteen years old and have tried to
go at
least once a year, even while living in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, I was not able
to go last
year because of my knee injury but this time my knee was fine. A little sore,
but no pain
and I had lots of fun.
I want to say thank you to everyone wishing me well for the Hong Kong Film
Awards and
also thanks to everyone who offered me support even though I did not win this
time. I am
OK and I am not upset. Of course it would have been nice to win but I am just
happy that I
was nominated with so many other great actors. Life is a struggle and things do
not always
go your way but that is what I enjoy about life. The most important thing is to
never give
up. You must fight for what you want! When I was young I used my all my blood,
sweat
and tears while practicing Kung Fu. I would repeat things over and over and over
until I got
it right. It was so hard and difficult but I would not let myself give up
because I knew if I
worked hard and put my heart into it I would succeed. When I studied
architecture it was
the same, I put so much time and effort into my projects. Sometimes I would not
sleep for
two or three days but I was putting my heart and soul into it and that was what
kept me
going. All that struggling enriched my life and made me what I am today.
It's not important to be "number 1" or "the best" for others but it is very
important to be
the best for yourself. I know I did the best for myself. You should all remember
that when I
first came to Hong Kong, I did not know how to speak Cantonese, I did not know
how to
act, I did not know anybody in the movie business, I was alone here. It has been
a long and
difficult struggle but I have enjoyed every minute of it! I have learned the
language, I have
made many good friends, I have learned to act and don't forget… I won the Golden
Horse!
Yes, maybe I will have a chance to win next time. I still have many years of
opportunities
ahead of me so I am not worried because I know in my heart to keep on fighting.
OK, I must get some sleep. I am leaving tomorrow for Shanghai to finish shooting
"Chang
Hen Ge". I am excited to back to work on this project because I think this film
will be really
special. Stanly Kwan is one of the great Hong Kong directors of this era.
Take Care!
Daniel
p.s. I am aware that some people have set up websites claiming to be me so I
wanted to
remind you that this is the ONLY official site from me.
Hi everybody!
So happy to have received so many of your mails in the past few months! I
noticed that
some of you have just only recently begun to follow my movies. That's great!
Welcome and
I hope that I continue getting all the great support that everyone has been
giving me.
I also want to thank everyone for congratulating me on my second Golden Horse
nomination! I was so happy to see that I have been recognized for my work in New
Police
Story. Let's see if I can win it! But even if I don't win, I will be just as
happy because there
are plenty of chances on the road ahead for me. I just have to keep on working
hard on my
craft!
Also thanks to those of you who have gone to see "Beyond Our Ken". It is a very
interesting
and different kind of movie. Also the character I play is quite different than
what you might
expect out me. If you haven't seen it, check it out!
This newsletter I want to talk about how going to the movies influenced my life.
Although I did not plan on becoming an actor I have been interested in films
since a very
young child. I remember as a child when my whole family would go to the town
movie
theater to watch movies. The theater was called THE ORINDA THEATER named after
the
town
I grew up in. It was a beautiful large Art-Deco style theater designed in the
1940's. It
had an old fashioned ticket booth in front. Inside the teeter there were large
murals
painted on the walls of Greek gods and goddesses. Covering the screen was a deep
red
velvet curtain and when the lights dimmed and the curtains parted a huge silver
screen
emerged. Once the projector started is when all the magic started. Stories of
love, action
and passion spoke to me through that screen. I loved going to the movies so much
because movies allowed me to go into a fantasy world and have the time of my
life.
Growing up I spent a lot of time in The Orinda Theater. It is still there to
this day and I still
think it is one of the best theaters in the world! If any of you every go to the
San Francisco
Bay Area try and make a trip to the city of Orinda and go see a movie on big
screen. If you
can't make the trip take a look at this website:
http://www.renaissancerialto.com/masters/
orinda/OrindaHistory.htm
I am sure all of you will agree it is a beautiful movie theater in the
traditional sense.
I also remember going to Drive-In movies. I am sure a lot of you do not know
what this is
because they only existed in America up until the 80's now, I think it would be
difficult to
find one. These theaters were called Drive-In because you actually drove your
car into a
very large parking lot where there would be a giant screen in front of you where
you world
watch the movie from your car! Once you found a space to park the car, there
would be a
small speaker which you would then hang on your window. I remember going with my
whole family in our old station wagon to watch movies. Drive Ins were a really
fun way to
watch a movie! If you want to know more about Drive-In theaters check out these
links:
www.driveinmovie.com
http://www.americandrivein.com/
If you ever get a chance try it out!
As a child, going to the movies was a really great family event. My family would
go eat
dinner then go see a movie. It was a great way for my family to spend time
together. As I
got older I would go to movies, almost every weekend with my friends. Going to
the
movies became a social event for my friends and I. I remember my 15th, 16th, and
17th
birthdays were spent in movie theaters.
I also remember going to the movies when I began dating. It was a way to make a
very
nervous and embarrassing situation (going out with girls) easy. If I went to a
movie with a
girl then we would have something to talk about afterwards and we could avoid
the "dead-
air" that sometimes happens on dates.
When I was in University I began taking some classes on film. These were fun
because we
got to watch movies in class and then we would spend the semester talking about
film. I
always got good grades in these classes just because I found them so
interesting. Also
when I was at the University of Oregon, there was a small theater called the
Bijou. (http://
www.bijou-cinemas.com/)(http://www.nwsource.com/travel/scr/tf_detail.cfm?
dt=2993&cid=5&pageid=OR&cityid=68)
It was an old church that was converted into a movie theater. Tickets were very
cheap and
they always played an interesting selection of art-house films, indie movies and
also Hong
Kong movies! I lived just around the block from The Bijou so I was there all the
time
watching whatever movie that they showed.
So as you can see, movie have always played in important part of my life. They
are more
than just a hobby for me but more a part of my lifestyle. I find it interesting
that this part
of my life eventually became my job! Although I studied architecture and
practiced kung-
fu it seems that what I know best is movies. I feel so lucky that I now make
movies and
hopefully the movies I make will make just as strong an impression on the people
who
watch them as they did on me. I am also really lucky to have audiences like you
who enjoy
watching my films. It makes me work harder!
Next month I will be going Shanghai to film Stanly Kwan's "Chang Hen Ge". This
film will
be starring, Sammi Cheng, Tony Leung, Wu Kwun and Me. I am really looking
forward to
this project because I have been wanting to work with Stanly Kwan for many
years.
OK. I hope this letter finds everyone well.
Take Care!

Hi Everyone,
Yes...again long time no write! As you can guess I have been extremely busy
working on
several things.
I have been in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong doing several TV commercials, which I
am
sure some of you have seen by now. I am currently working on the movie
"Divergence" or
"Saam Tsa Hau", directed by one of my favorite directors Benny Chan. Next I will
be
working with Pang Ho Cheung on an independent movie and then I will be working
with
Stephen Fung on his second movie. I am excited for this project because Yuen Woo
Ping
will be the action choreographer. I am sure you all know that he did the fight
scenes for
Matrix and Kill Bill. It will be hard work but I am looking forward to that.
In November I will be working on another movie directed by Stanly Kwan. This
film will be
starring Sammi Cheng, Tony Leung and Wu Bun. This will be a very challenging
role for
me, as I will play a young man in 1950's China. I have already been doing a lot
of research
and brushing up on my modern Chinese history. It is very interesting material.
If any of
you have time and you are not familiar with modern Chinese history I highly
recommend
studying how the communist government took over China and its affects on the
people.
I would also like to thank everyone again for watching "One Nite in Mongkok".
This is
probably my favorite film to date. It was such an incredible experience working
on this
film! If you haven't seen it yet check out the DVD. There is a special features
disk with
extra scenes and a making of that are worth watching.
Have any of you seen the JVC commercial I did with my friends, Terence Yin,
Andrew Lin,
and Conroy Chan? It was a very difficult shoot because we were on wires all day
long. We
also sang the song for the commercial too! That was a really fun experience
going into the
studio and singing for the first time. Many people now think that we should make
a full
CD. What do you all think?
OK. That's all for now. Thanks for all the wonderful messages you all have sent
me. It's
good to know that I have support from all around the world! Also please remember
DO
NOT send any group e-mails, jokes, attachments, forwards etc. I do not want to
get any
viruses. I will immediately delete these e-mails and if it is a big problem I
will block them
if necessary. So please be careful what you send me!!!
OK, take care everyone and be happy!
Daniel Wu
Hello everyone!
Long time no write! I have had a very busy past few months. I have done three
movies
since the last time I wrote to you all. I have finished "New Police Story",
"Enter the Phoenix"
and "One Night in Mongkok".
Last week I finally had time to have my knee operation. The operation went well
although
it lasted over two and a half hours! I am now at home resting and recovering. My
physiotherapist is working really hard with me to get me back up and walking
again!
Hopefully I will be able to walk normally within a couple of weeks. That is what
I will be
focusing on for the month of March. No movie work, just concentrating on getting
healthy!
Thanks to all of you who have expressed concern over my knee, it has helped me
so much!
When I come back from my rest, "Enter the Phoenix" will be released on April
8th. I am
really looking forward to this because we had so much fun making this movie. I
really liked
working with Karen Mok, Eason Chan, Chapman To and of course the director
Stephen
Fung. I was able to see some of it and I think everyone will enjoy this movie a
lot! So
remember to go support us and watch "Enter the Phoenix". If you want to know
more
about the movie check out this site: http://enterthephoenix.jce.com.hk
In April I will be going back to China to finish up some work on "Twins Effects
2". I have
already filmed a few days in Yunnan, China. It was such a beautiful location in
a cave deep
underground!
Just a reminder to you all that the Danielwunewletter is the only official site
that I have set
up. The other sites have been set up by fans that have worked very hard on
making very
beautiful websites. However, there are one or two that say they have been set up
be me
but are not( ie. Xanga) Beware don't be fooled!
Also my official mailing address has moved back to the following address:
Daniel Wu
C/o JC Group
145 Waterloo Road
Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong
One more thing I would like to address. A lot of you have been writing to me for
advice on
career choices, what to study, relationships etc. I appreciate all of you
writing to me about
these issues, it gives me a much deeper insight to who all of you are. The only
thing I can
say to all of you is...trust yourself! Really get inside of yourself and search
for the answers.
If that doesn't work, talk to your best friend, your Mother, Father, Sister or
Brother. These
are people who are close to you and love you and can help steer you in the right
direction.
In the end your heart will know what to do.
OK, that's all for now! Take care all!!
Daniel Wu
Hello everyone!
I hope you are all doing well. As you can probably guess I have been very busy
working on several projects, so I have had little time to keep you all updated.
I am currently working on Jackie Chan's "New Police story" and "Enter the
Phoenix",
directed by my good friend Steven Fung. Both projects have been very fun and
interesting, but it has been so difficult working on two movies at once! I have
not
done this since I did "City of Glass" and "Yong and Dangerous". I was a lot
younger
then and my parts were not so big so it was much easier to handle. So when I am
not
working, I am at home charging my batteries as much as possible and sleeping!
"New Police Story" is my second time working with Jackie. This has been fun
because I
always enjoy working with one of my biggest idols. "Enter the Phoenix" has been
very
fun because it's a comedy so we are always laughing on set. I am also working
with
Eason Chan and Karen Mok, two people who I have never worked with before but
have
always wanted to. We have lots of fun on set. Steven Fung is a very calm and
relaxed
director and I really enjoy working with him as a friend and collaborator.
Also I think a few of you have seen the things that me and my "CHISEEN" team
have
been doing for MTV's Whatever Things. I am a producer and creative director for
this
and we have been having a lot of fun doing weird and crazy things for the show.
If
you get MTV try and catch it!
I will now take a break from these projects to go to Taiwan and begin rehearsals
for
"The Happy Prince" after Taiwan we will come back to Hong Kong and do a few more
performances. I heard that our Hong Kong performances have sold out already, so
thank all of you who have supported our play and buying tickets!
I also want to thank everyone who have expressed concerns over my injury to my
knee. I am ok now but will need to have an operation after I finish working on
these
projects. Because I will need to spend time rehabilitate my knee after the
surgery, I
will take some time off from work. Health always comes first! Hopefully after
the
operation I will be back at 100%!
Ok, on that note, I hope this message finds everyone in good health.
Take Care!

Hello,
Someone has hacked into my account again.
Please remember I DO NOT send attachments from this newsletter. So if you see a

run the risk of getting a virus.
Sorry for an trouble this has caused.
Thanks,

Hello Everybody!
I'm just want to write and thank all of you for supporting Love Undercover 2. We
made good box office records because of your attendance. For those of you who
missed it, I think the VCD and DVD just came out. Because of it's sucess I think
Love
Undercover 3 may be on the way!
Also I want to thank those of you who went to or are going to see Night
Corridor. As
most of you know this was my first movie as a producer. I must warn some of you
that this is not a movie for everybody. But if you like different,
non-commercial films
and you are above 18 (catIII), then check it out. We need your support! Playing
at
Broadway Cinematheque and Cine-Art House.
Right now I am shooting the period drama movie "Miss To Sap Leurng". So far it
has
been really fun and interesting. Although the wig and the clothes are unbearably
hot!!! It's just as difficult and uncomfortable as everyone had told me before.
Nonetheless it is still very fun!
Just a reminder....PLEASE NO FORWARDED OR JUNK MAILS!!!! These are blocking up
my e-mail account and preventing a lot of people from gettting mails to me. I
will
block any mails with a FWD: in the title. Also I have been made aware that there
are
some people pretending to be me and setting up "official Daniel Wu websites". I
have
only this newsletter, no websites or anything else...so beware.
My office has finally moved back to it's original address. We are now at:
JC Group
145 Waterloo Road
Kowloon Tong, Kowloon
Hong Kong
OK, take care everyone! I will write more about upcoming projects soon!
Hello everyone,
It seems like a very stupid person has hacked into my newsletter
account and sent you all a virus!
If you have not already done so, please delete the previous e-
mail entitled "UPDATE"
Also just for your safety in the future, I will not send e-mails with
attachements to you. So if you see an attachment coming from
the newletter, throw it away!
I apologize if this has caused any problems for anybody.
Thank you,
Daniel Wu
Hello eveybody!
I Hope you are all doing well. Thank you for all the e-mails and letters you
have sent me over the past few months. I am so amazed how far some of
you are away from here! I have reveived mail from Phillipines, Indonesia,
Australia, New Zealand, Canada, China and the USA. I remember when I first
started e-mailing everyone it was only to Hong Kong and Taiwan. Thanks
again for all your support!
I just returned to Hong Kong after spending one month in the States. It was
good to go back home(San Francisco) again after not being back for almost
two years. I was able to see most of my old friends from junior-high, high-
school and college. It's a very nice thing to see old friends and to talk about
old times. I felt like a little kid again! I
I was also in Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Diego. I spent most of my time
eating. I was always thinking of where to go to eat. Eating so much made me
gain weight. I am now 10 pounds heavier than before. But don't worry I'm still
not fat ...yet!
Now I am back in Hong Kong and spending time promoting "Love Undercover
2: Love Mission". I had a lot of fun working on this movie because I was able
to do more comedy with my character. I hope you guys like it when you see it.
At the end of the month I will be going all over China with Miriam to do
promotions. We will be going to Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Chong Qing,
Wuhan, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Hopefully I will see some of you there!
Summer is now here and I hope you all have time to enjoy it! I know some of
you are exams right now. Good luck! For those of you who are graduating,
congratualtions! School is a very important thing. I am so thankful I finished
high-school and graduated from college. I wouldn't be where I am today
without the education I received. For those of you who are still in school,
relax
and enjoy yourselves. After seeing all my old friends I realized some of the
best times I've had were in school.
OK, gotta go to the gym now an lose some of that weight I gained!
Take care!
Daniel Wu
Hello everyone,
I just came back to Hong Kong from Thailand where I was
working on the Jackie Chan movie "Around the World in 80
days". This was a project of many firsts for me. It was my first
Hollywood movie and it was also my first time working together
with Jackie Chan.
In this movie I play a bad guy named Bak Mei and I fight with
Jackie. I was really honored and excited to have the opportunity
to work with Jackie because he has been one of my idols since I
was a little kid. His movies inspired me to train hard while
learning kung fu. Jackie Chan is a very good person and treats
everyone around him so well. Now I know why have respected
him for so many years.
Next week I will be going to Taiwan to shoot the Biore
commercial. This will be fourth time I have worked with Biore
and I'm happy that they have continued to use me to represent
their product. We have developed such a good relationship over
the years that it only seems natural. After I finished the
commercial I will go to Shanghai to work on "Love Undercover
2". I'm sure a lot of you have been waiting for this project to come
out and hopefully we can make this one even better!
Enough about me let's talk about what's going on out in the
world.
First I would like to talk about the war. I think that it is a very
terrible thing that in this new millennium we are still waging wars
such as this. Human beings have evolved and advanced greatly
over the years but yet killing is still part of our society, this makes
no sense to me. It makes me sad to see and hear about all the
destruction that is going on now in Iraq my heart goes out to all
the soldiers, American, English, Iraqi and whoever else, who
are fighting in this war. I hope you will all pray with me that the
war will be over soon so that more lives will not be wasted.
Another big issue here is the SARS virus. This virus is spreading
quickly around Asia and throughout the world. I see more and
more people taking precautions against this disease. Today I
saw more than half the people on the streets were wearing
protective masks. I have just started wearing one myself.
Please be careful in the coming days to stay healthy and strong.
And if you feel sick in any way, do not hesitate to go see a doctor
immediately. You can never be too careful about your health!
OK, I must go now. Hopefully by the next time I write to you all
these terrible things will be over. I am praying that it will all end
soon and I hope that you all will join me. Again thank you guys
so much for your support through e-mails, letters, gifts etc., it
means so much to me to hear your words of encouragement!
Take care!
Daniel Wu
Hello Everybody!
Hello!
Just waned to say hi and tell you how "The Happy Prince" is going. We are
half-way through the production now and so far so good. All the hard work
that everyone has put into this play is all coming together these few days. It's
been a really great and exciting experience for me!
We all worked very hard for the past three months. Especiially the past
month, we were working more than 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. It was a
very tiring schedule but very fn at the same time.
Our last show will be on the 1st of March and then it will all be done. Then I
can catch up on all that lost sleep! Thanks to all of you who managed to get
tickets and see the play. Sorry to those of you who could not get tickets! The
venue is not very large so tickets sold out very quickly!
By the way, just to let everybody know I am ok from the car accident. Thank
you for your letters of concern! I was very lucky to have not got injured. For
those of you who drive...drive safely!!!
I must mention agian...please do not send forwarded e-mails or attachments
over 100k. These are the kinds of mails that block my account up and not
others to get their mails in. These kind of mails will be immediately deleted
and blocked. It is not fair for others! Also rude or unappropiate mails will
also
be treated similarly.
OK have to go to the theatre now for tonight's show!
Take care,
Daniel
Hello!
Sorry I'm a bit late following up my last e-mail. I've been really
busy lately and have not had time to write.
Anyway, first things first. PLEASE remember NOT to send me
junk mail!!! This includes forwarded jokes, pictures etc. and any
file over 100K. These types of mail block up my account and
prevent other people from sending e-mail to me. Out of fairness
to everyone else, I will automatically delete and block sender on
these types of mail. This will cause you to lose you e-mailing
privileges to me. So don't do it! This is the only way I can keep
correspondence with all of you. If this continues I will have to
stop doing this altogether!
This is also a bit late, but thank you to all of you who sent me
birthday presents in cards. I'm sure they all arrived safely to the
JC Group. Your kindness and thoughtfulness is greatly
appreciated. Thank you so much!!
So, as most of you know I spent September and part of October
in Shanghai training wushu. It was very tough but I enjoyed my
training very much. The only bad thing was that I injured my knee
on my last day. I have been doing rehabilitation and it looks to be
ok now, although from now on I must be more careful.
The Mini Cooper event in Barcelona, Spain was so much fun!
Mini Cooper put out a great effort to put on a really great event!
Although we did not win, (we came in third place) Team Hong
Kong had a good time! If you haven't checked out the photos on
the Yahoo Newsletter please do so.
What am I doing now? This week I have started rehearsals for
"The Happy Prince", the play that I will be doing in February. "The
Happy Prince" will be based on Oscar Wilde's play by the same
name. It is a very fun and interesting process, very different from
working on movies. My fellow cast members and I are learning
many new things everyday.
Also this month I will be working on a new movie called Night
Corridor. This is directed by a new director named Julian Lee.
It's a small movie with lots of heart and will be very different from
the movies I have done in the past. I am also the producer of this
movie too, thus allowing me to get involved with the other side of
the movie business.
In March, I am planning to start work on Love Undercover 2.
Which I think many of you are looking forward to. Hopefully it will
be as good or even better than the first one. I'm happy because
Joe Ma, the director, is allowing me to do some comedy as well!
So as you can see it will be a busy next few months for me with
lots of new and different experiences ahead. I am excited to be
doing so many things and hopefully you will all enjoy the results!
Ok, time to get some sleep! Take care and thanks for all your
support and encouragement!
Sincerely,
Daniel Wu
Hey everybody!
Just a quick note to let you know that I posted some new photos
from my trip to Spain. Have a look when you get a chance!
I will write more about the trip later.
See ya!
Daniel
Hello everyone!
Just a short note this time.
This is Daniel again. I'm writting to you from
Shanghai, China. I just finished shooting a car
commercial yesterday and will finally begin my Wushu
training!
AS some of you know I have been wanting to train for a
long time but because of work related reasons it was
not possible. So now that I'm officially on vacation I
will be here training for the next month.
Since I will be living on a sports campus and living
in the dormitory, I will not have regular access to
e-mail and thus will not be checking my e-mail for the
next month.
If you have trouble sending e-mail to my hotmail
account please try sending mail to
danielwunewsletter@...
This account has more memory but remember no mail over
100k please!!!!
OK take care! I'll write about my experiences when I get
back to Hong Kong.
Daniel Wu
Hello Everybody!
It's me, Daniel!
Welcome to all you new people on the list. I seem to be getting more
and more
people on here everyday! Yes, this is actually me, Daniel Wu; writing
to all of
you and it is only me reading all of your mails. I am managing all
the e-mails
and newsletters by myself; it's a difficult job! But in my effort to
keep in contact
with all of you I will keep working hard on this!
First things first. I would like to talk about some technical issues:
#1. I'm getting so much mail everyday, so it is very, very important
that you DO
NOT send me any forwarded mail. This means jokes, chain letters or
any
documents over 100k. I know you may think this kind of stuff is
important but it
blocks up the e-mail account and prevents other people from writing
in. So to
be fair to everybody, PLEASE only original messages! I will
automatically
delete and block sender on anything else.
#2. Please spread the word to anyone who wants to subscribe to this
newsletter to please do so. I can no longer spend the time to add
everyone to
the newsletter list myself. So if you want to receive these
newsletters please
sign up.
With your help I can continue managing the e-mails smoothly and
efficiently.
Thanks a lot!
OK...After I finished working on The Peeping, I've been on a short
break from
making to work on some personal projects, which I will tell you more
about
when the time is right. I was alos in Taiwan doing the new Biore for
Men
commercial. I had a fun time this year. Those of you in Taiwan should
be able
to see it soon! I have also been learning how to do DV movie editing
on my
new computer. It's a very difficult and time consuming process but it
is also
very fun to edit your own movies at home! Also as some of you may
have seen
in the newspaper I have doing some artwork. I have always loved art
since I
was a small boy so I have decided to spend some time doing this. I've
been
painting and doing some photography. I will post some of my photos on
this
newsletter hopefully sometime soon. Please give me your comments!
I have received many letters about the movie The Peeping. Many of you
are
upset that I would do this movie and have been worrying about my
image. One
thing I must make clear, The Peeping IS NOT a "porn" or Category III
movie. It
is a IIB, which means it is for mature audiences, it is not meant for
everybody to
watch. Unfortunately the movie distribution company decided to focus
on the
"sexy" part of the movie rather than the story to promote it. If you
were to watch
the movie, you would find that the love scenes in the movie amount to
maybe
three minutes total. Three minutes out of ninety minutes is hardly
what I would
call "porn". I chose to work on this project because I found the
story and the
character interesting to me. I remind everyone that I am an ACTOR, I
am not a
singer or popstar. So I'm not as concerned with my image as a person
as I am
with my ability to do my job as an actor. In fact it is my duty to
convince the
audience that the person on screen is anything BUT the real Daniel
Wu. That is
part of what acting is about for me. For those of you who have been
following
my movies from the beginning, you know that I have always done
"controversial" and non-standard roles. That is my choice as an actor
and I will
continue my career in this manner. I enjoy exploring different roles
because it
gives me deeper insight on not only my acting but the general human
condition
as well.
This doesn't guarantee that every movie I do will be great or good.
That is up to
the director. It also doesn't mean that you must watch every movie I
do, that is
up to you. You have the freedom to choose just like me. I apologize
if people
feel upset about my decision but it is important to me that you all
understand
my point of view.
Next I would like to answer some questions:
Many of you have been wondering how to get my first movie Bishonen on
VCD
or DVD. Luckily Yonfan, the director, has a website where you can get
Bishonen and Peony Pavilions. The address is: www.yonfan.com. Check
it
out!
Also I would like to clear up my Bio a little bit:
I was born in San Francisco, Ca- USA. My Mother and Father are both
from
Shanghai. That makes me 100% Shanghainese. I am not mixed at all,
even
though I may look it. Maybe I ate too many hamburgers when I was in
the
States-hehehe!
I currently live in Hong Kong and am usually here most of the year. I
try to go
home and visit my Mother and Father when I get time off.
For university, I went to the University of Oregon and received a
B-Arch in
Architecture and a minor in Art History graduating in 1997. It was
also here
where I started the University of Oregon Wushu Team, which is a
program that
is still running strong today! Go Ducks!
My current mailing address is:

T.S.T. Kowloon

If you would like to receive an autographed photo of me, please send
a self-
addressed envelope to the above address!
OK That's it for now! Remember...Don't buy pirate VCDs or DVDs!
Take care!
Love,

Hello everybody and happy Easter!!!!
It's me Daniel again! Seems like this newsgroup has gotten much
bigger after the release of "Love Undercover". I'm glad that all of
you liked this movie. Becasue of all of your support, you were able
to boost the box office ratings. Thank you!
I also want to say thanks to everyone who showed their support at the
Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia premiere showings of Princess D. It
was nice to see so many of you come and support the movie. So far I
think Princess D is my favorite film to date. If you haven't seen it
yet take some time to see it, it has a very special message for
everyone!
My trip to Singapore and Malaysia was fun! Our schedules were very
very tight so we could hardly catch out breath before we had to go
off to our next event. But these kinds of promotions are always this
way. Too many things to do and not enough time! Again thanks to all
my Singaporean and Malaysian friends out there for showing up at the
events and giving us all that support!
Next week sometime I should be going to Taiwan to promote Princess D.
I do not know the exact schedule yet but it will be pretty soon! I
will also be starting a new movie in the middle of April. So I will
be getting busy again! My unofficial rest period is over!
I got some letters from some of you who didn't like "Beauty and the
Breast" very much saying that you thought the message was very stupid
and shallow. Although I agree this movie was not the best, there are
some merits deserving a bit of credit. "Beauty and the Breast" is
basically telling us that we do not need to lie to to get ahead in
life. We do not need to pretend we are something we are not or
pretend to have something you don't have. If you be yourself you are
most likely going to be better off. In the movie my friend Mario
pretends to have cancer to get Yuki to like him but in the end she
finds out and he pays for his mistake. Breast boosting medicine is
also a kind of lie too. You don't need to have big breast for people
to like you or respect you. So who you are is not based on these
types of things, and people will like you for who you are and not
what you pretend to be. This will get you much further in the long
run. If you see the movie in this light I think you will look at it
differently. I actually had a lot of fun making this movie because a
lot of the comedy parts Francis Ng and I made up ourselves. It was a
very good experience for me.
In the future I will probably be doing many different types of
movies. Some of which you may like and some of which you may not
like. It will probably be the same for me, I might like some, I might
not like others but I will never know until I try. It is my job as
an actor to explore and discover different things. This is what I
like most about my job. Sometimes I might be a bad guy sometimes I
will be a nice, cute, sweet guy. None of these characters are the
real me, they are just people in a story I'm trying to become. These
are my choices and I really enjoy them. I think you can try to do it
too. Maybe not in acting, but in everyday life. Don't be afraid to
try something different or new. If you feel something in your heart
it doesn't hurt to try. Don't worry what other people think. The
worst thing that could happen is that you realize it's not for you
and you go on and try something else. These are the things that can
make your life more fun and interesting,! Who knows? You may even
discover something new about yourself, wouldn't that be great!
OK, one last thing I want to say before I go….to all of you still in
school and getting ready for exams "Jia You!" or "Ka Yau!" or "Keep
Working Hard!" you can do it! Remember find some way to reward
yourself when you're finished!
Until next time, take care!

Hello and Happy Chinese New Year everyone!
I hope everybody has had a good holiday season. I had a wonderful
vacation with my family in France. I was able to snowboard too!
Snowboarding is one of my favorite sports but I've have had little
chance to do so since moving to Hong Kong. I had a very busy past few
months so this vacation came just in time.
Before my vacation I just finished filming "The Police Force Wants Me
to Get Married!"(Sun Zat Si Mui). This was a kind of romantic comedy
with me and Miriam Yueng (Yueng Chien Wa). It was an interesting
project to work on for me because it was first romantic comedy.
Previously I did "Beauty and the Breast"(Fung Hung Bei Cup) with
Francis Ng and Michelle Reiss. I'm not sure if many of you saw this
movie but I had a very fun time making it. It was first comedy movie
so everything was new to me and I learned a lot form the experience.
I also enjoyed working with Francis again, he is one of my favorite
Hong Kong actors.
Starting next week I will be promoting "The Police Force Wants Me to
Get Married!" and "Princess D"(Seurng Fei), both films are expected
to be released in March and hopefully you will all get a chance to
see them! Go to the movie theatres don't buy pirate VCDs!
I'm happy to see that the list of new people on this list is getting
bigger and bigger with people writting to me from all over the world!
I read every e-mail sent to me and your support is very appreciated.
Thank You! I must remind you all that you MUST NOT send forwarded
mail, junk mail or large memory files to me. These types of files
take up a lot of memory on my e-mail account and sometimes will block
other people's e-mails from coming in. So from now on these types of
mails will be deleted immediately and I may have to block senders if
it becomes too much. So please be fair and considerate! Also remember
that my Chinese reading is not too good so if you write in English I
will definately be able to read every word!
My plans for the year of the Horse are quite simple...take it easy!
The last two years I was working all the time very little time to
relax. Even not enough time to write to all of you! So this year I
will be more selective with my work and spend more time enjoying
life! I hope to travel more, read more, learn more, watch more
movies, etc.
Well, I hope this letter finds everyone happy and in good health and
I wish everyone a good year!
Take Care!

p.s. Some of you have asked where you can mail things to me. You can
mail letters to:

Hello everyone!
How are you all? From now on all my messages will be coming from this
Newsletter group. It seems to be the best way to solve most of my e-
mailing problems. It will also make it more convieniant for me to
write more often.
Thanks to everyone for your letters. I read everyone myself and I
really enjoy them very much. Your words of support are very much
appreciated. Remember I still can't read Chinese(but I'm learning!)
So I can only see the letters that are in English.
Recently I have been quite busy with filming and promotions. I hope
most of you got a chance to see "Beijing Rocks". It was a really
great and fun movie to work on. If you haven't seen it...shame on
you! I know some of you may not have access to it, so I will forgive
you but do see it when you get a chance!
In October I finished a movie called "Bin Lim Ging Ching" there is no
english title yet. In this movie I was able to work with my friend
Stephen Fung again. I played an assasin whose face was badly deformed
who must revenge his brother's death.
This month I was able to go back to Taiwan to promote "Beijing
Rocks". It was good to get a chance to go back to Taiwan! Thanks to
everyone for coming to the autograph session. It was fun!
Right now I have just started work on another new movie called "Fung
Hung Kei Yuen". This movie will also have Francis Ng and Michelle
Reis/Lee. I am really excited to work with Francis on this project
because he is one of my favorite actors. This ia also my first comedy
so you will all get a chance to see my silly side.
I read some e-mails from some of you in Singapore complaining about
me not showing up for the "Peony Pavillion" premiere. I would like to
explain that there are a lot of places that I would like to go to do
promotions BUT it is not always up to me personally. Sometimes there
is no budget to fly the actors out or my schedule does not allow. In
the case of the Singapore "Peony Pavillion" trip, I chose NOT to go
because I was upset with the distribution of the film in Sigapore.
Many of you may not know that the movie will not show in Singapore
because the Singaporean distrubtors said that they do not think
Chinese films are fit to be shown in their theatres. This statement
upset me very much because in order for Hong Kong or Chinese film to
survive, we need the support of everyone in the industry all over
Asia. I felt that these people were being tremendously ignorant on
their part. This is not the first time I've experienced difficulties
with a movie in Singapore. So all of you in Singapore who want to see
more good films, you have to fight for the right to choose instead of
someone else choosing for you. I just wanted you to be aware of that.
I've also been getting a lot of mail asking me for advice on many
things. About what to study in school, about getting into the
entertainment business, etc. My one piece of advice, which also
applies to myself is this: Do what you want to do. Do what will make
you happy. Very simple statements that can make a world of
difference. Don't be scared to try something different. Who knows?
You may be very good at it! And if you don't succeed, your life is
not over! You can try something else untill you are satisfied or
happy. If you believe and trust in yourself you can make it happen!
OK, I must go. Hope everyone is well and look forward to hearing from
you all!
Daniel
