Casting
Hello:   
I'm Executive Producer and Director for a film on behalf of ACRIA (AIDS  Community Research Intiative of America) and the NY Dept. of Health.   It's called ENGAGED and it's aimed at helping adults over 50 become  aware of HIV/AIDS in their age group.  It's becoming unfortunately more  prevalent amongst elders as more are surviving with HIV and more are  becoming vulnerable to it because of lack of information.  This is  especially true amongst the Latino and African American community.
 
We are making two films, one in English and one in Spanish and the  female roles are already cast.  We have not had success yet to find the  two male leads and I've written a brief character breakdown below. All of  the actors should be bi-lingual English and Spanish.
 
If you could post this to let actors submit their head-shots and  resumes as soon as possible, I'd appreciate it greatly. We're on a strict  deadline with the city and are to going into production the week after this.   Please feel free to forward this to any appropriate people you know -  again thank you for your help.

Here are the characters:
MARLON: Late 50's-early 60's  5'8" or taller; can be slightly  stocky, good looking, Afro-Latino/African American.  Artistic,  appreciates the fine things in life. Same gender loving male.  Portrays  someone who is HIV+ but otherwise, healthy.  Has a dry sense of humor,  is insightful and down to earth.  Must be bi-lingual English and  Spanish.
  
MATTHEW: Early 60's but thinks of himself as younger (he would say he  looks like he's in his late 40's and feels like he's in his 30's)   Movie star handsome - really- or at least distinguished.  Warm,  charming and as flirtatious as he can be, he prefers to settle down.   5'10" or taller.  Must be bilingual English and Spanish. Must be  able to dance salsa/merengue.  
 
Please be available to shoot within the window of Feb. 13-22.   There is pay ($250 for a full day), copy of DVD, and meals.

I am writing on the suggestion of a fellow student in the Columbia University Film MFA program. She worked with you last year to cast a short film entitled "Peso Neto" and when I told her I was beginning the casting process for a "Right Field", a short film with a Dominican protagonist, she told me to contact you.

We are looking for a 18-25 year old man from the Dominican Republic or possibly a first generation Dominican-American. It is a film about a young baseball player, so the right person will be someone who is comfortable on a baseball field and can convincingly swing a bat. We will be traveling to the DR to shoot the film in June.

As a first generation Cuban woman this film is very important to me. It is wonderful to see more films telling stories from the Caribbean, Central and South America and I am proud to be part of the growing trend. This film in particular has powerful resonance for me as in that it is about a young person choosing to follow his dreams despite all of the obstacles in his way, a vital theme for people from all cultures. For me it is essential that this project is true to its roots, because of that we are committed to finding a Dominican actor to ensure the authenticity of the film.
