His high school life is a dream until the day a car accident leads to his father's arrest, and the family comes under investigation by immigration services. For all that Carlos wishes things could just go back to normal, he has no choice but to step up for his family, and learn to see himself in an entirely new way. Carlos, 16, Hispanic/Mexican. Born into a musical family, Carlos has a passion for writing rap lyrics, hanging out with his friends, and a girl named Skyla. A smart, witty, class clown, he is liked by both teachers and students. While Carlos loves attention, he tends to live more in his daydreams than in real interpersonal relationships. Zaida, 40's, Hispanic. Such a caring mother that she has filled her two children with all the confidence that they need to come out on top, and still has affection left over for the kids she nannies. Zaida has a voice like an angel, she is strong and proud but also pragmatic; she knows the time has come when she is no longer able to shelter Carlos from the grown-up world. José, 40's, Hispanic/Mexican. Funny, charismatic, and good spirited. When José isn't driving his car service car, he plays the violin and spends time with his family, and when there is occasion he knows how to throw a great party. Uninterested in assimilation José raises his children to value education and culture; unfortunately, they don't always see the value of his lessons. Skyla, 16, Black. Bold, sharp and witty, unlike many high school girls Skyla's not afraid to be mean, dirty, nerdy, or nice. Cheers,
