WHAT NOT TO DO IN A
SCREENPLAY IF YOU WANT IT TO SELL

Writer/producer and script consultant, Peter Myers, shares the
most common mistakes screenwriters make which lessen a script's chances of
getting a greenlight

A free talk on November 17,
7:00 p.m. (free parking on premises)

                                             At Author Services, 7051 Hollywood
Boulevard (at Sycamore), L.A. CA 90028

In recent years, in addition to his writing and producing, Peter Myers has
analyzed over eighty screenplays for writers, producers and directors. Two
feature films (one in L.A., and one in Alaska) were shot in 2009, using scripts
rewritten according to Peter's analyses, with a third scheduled for later in
2009, and a fourth scheduled for 2010 at England's famous Pinewood Studios.
Peter's practical advice to writers will appear in "Now Write! Screenwriting,"
due in bookstores soon.

Peter sees the same flaws in most scripts he analyzes: Errors in premise,
theme, tone, character development, dialogue, plotting, structure, rhythm,
pacing, format or marketability. Due, partly, to the stiff competition, these
mistakes can sabotage a sale. Peter goes over them in detail.

Peter has been hired to write, rewrite, or has optioned, over ten feature
scripts and has had material produced for the media of syndicated television and
cable. One of his scripts won an Honorable Mention in the script competition at
the Thunderbird Int'l Film Festival. Peter developed a script for a Best
Picture Oscar-winning producer which (as a $50-$75 million movie), went into the
packaging stage at the prestigious William Morris Agency.

As either writer or producer, Peter currently has five projects on the
development/production slates of four independent film companies in Southern
California. Three of his projects are part of a five-picture, $240 million film
slate which he created with producer Karen Kramer, widow of the great
producer/director, Stanley Kramer.

RSVP by calling 323-464-8537 or via

ScriptDC - Open to all - October 15-18, 2009 in Washington, DC

Most people think it is impossible to have a career as a screenwriter living
anywhere but LA and NY. Well? Guess what? Yes we can!

WIFV is working to challenge that out-dated belief by bringing the best teachers
and industry professionals to DC in mid-October. This year we are partnering
with the DC Shorts Festival, The Actor’s Center and TIVA-DC to expand
offerings, partnerships, and fun!

Screenwriters Megan Holley, "Sunshine Cleaning", and Jeff Porro, "The Great
Debaters", will be joining other invited local and national industry
professionals to ensure that all participants gain the skills, knowledge and
connections they need to be successful. Workshops will demonstrate how to
network, how to pitch your work and how to finance film projects in addition to
offering the unique opportunity to have the opening of scripts critiqued by
producers.

Subject: Download a Movie Clip For Free - An Internet Innovation
frgrdpyprbsc
Offline Offline

Technology has made so many advances in the last few years, it can be hard to
keep up. There is no end in sight, as we are constantly swept off of our feet
with new and innovative ideas. One of the more recent endeavors of the internet
is the ability to download a movie clip for free. For all of those movie buffs
out there this is an amazing creation.
If you happen to miss one of your favorite scenes have no worries the internet
is here. The best thing about it is that it is free and easy to do. Anyone in
his right mind could download a movie clip for free.
There are many different sites out there that offer this idea. However, the
quality is your main concern. There are definitely better sites than others. You
will not always be able to get everything you are looking for, but the majority
of movie clips are out there.
There are also a lot of different ways to download a movie clip for free. Some
sites will want you to join that site as a member. This is not such a bad idea
if you feel that you will get the most out of your membership. Do not worry
memberships are mostly free, just beware that some sites claim that they are
free and are actually not.
A few things you will want to keep in mind when finding free movie clips will be
outlined below. Firstly you want to make sure your site has enough variety. If
you only see a few movies you will know that it is not a very recognized or
popular site.
The second thing you will need to keep in mind is if the site is misleading you
to believe that they are actually offering you to download a movie clip for
free, or if they are going to charge you a fee.
The third issue is how fast the downloading will happen. Some sites downloads
will be a lot faster then others so find one that is not just going to annoy you
with how slow it is to download a movie clip for free.

Do you have a computer and a high speed internet connection? Are you wondering
how you can download movies online? The internet has been known to change the
way we do all kinds of things. People have been known to start a business
online, pay bills, stay in touch with family and friends from all over the world
and tons of other things. This article will reveal how you can begin today to
download movies online without having to purchase any extra hardware or spyware.
Millions of people browse the internet everyday; and most households have at
least one computer. If you currently have a high speed internet connection; then
you can begin using a new service that will enable you to download movies
online. Of course some ways are going to be better than others and you can
choose which way is best for you.
Illegal Downloading Of Movies
Yes it is illegal but many people do it and it has grown to become a very
popular method. It is most commonly known as piracy and it has been going on for
several years. It is not the best way to download movies online; but is possible
to download the movies you desire. However I highly recommend that you do not
use this method as you can get in trouble. If you love movies; it is best that
you get a hold of all your movies legally.
Online Streaming Video Sites
YouTube is a very popular one. You can also find some that are similar to
YouTube; the only difference is that they provide full length movies that you
can watch. However most likely the quality of the picture is not going to be as
good as it could be. Most of the movies that you watch on the streaming video
sites have been made with a home video camera which is also known as
(bootlegging.) Movie lovers usually do not choose this method; because you will
most likely not be able to enjoy the picture quality.
Legal Download Movie Sites
There are sites that you can pay a one time fee and receive instant membership
to all the movies you desire. Once you pay the membership price you will never
have to pay another penny and the best part is that you will have access to over
a million different movies any time you desire. This is the best way in my
opinion to download movies online.
You will receive a great picture quality and it is all legal. You now have been
given three methods that are available to you so you can watch all the movies
you want and download them as well. You can take your pick on which one you want
to use.
If you want to find out more about how to legally download movies online; visit
our site below. It is filled with all the movies you will want to watch. You
will also receive other benefits besides movies; you will receive access to
music, games and music videos. You have nothing to lose except having to worry
about getting your movies illegally.

Hi,
I bought a TV last week from a website:www.hkeles.com. I have received the
product. The quality is very good. They also sell phones, motor, psp and so on.
Because of the financial crisis, their products are very cheap. by the way, they
only sell new and original products .If you need these products, you can have a
look . I think you will get many benefits.
Greetings!

Subject: How to Download Music or Movies to Your PSP
frgrdpyprbsc
Offline Offline

Downloading and transferring music or movies to your PSP may seem confusing at
first, but after reading some useful tutorials online I found it simple even for
the notice user. I must admit although being computer savy myself, I was lost
when I first tried to hook it up. I wanted to share some useful knowledge for
those of you who, like myself, want an easy step by step guide to uploading
files to your Sony PSP.
1. Connect the PSP to your PC with a USB cable. (If you do not have a USD cable
you can pick one up at Walmart, Best Buy or Circuit City). 2. Press the "home"
button on the PSP (look in the lower left of your screen) and then use the
left-right directional buttons to find Settings. Then the up-down buttons to
find the USB Connection on the PSP. 3. Press the X button and your PSP will
display the USB Connection. 4. In about 5 seconds or two your computer will pop
up with a new USD connection in the bottom right hand corner. 5. Click on the
drive letter that corresponds to the PSP, it is probably E or F drive since the
D drive is typically your CD-Rom. 6. Now create a new folder on that drive and
name it whatever you would like. 7. In the new folder you can create sub folders
for music, movies, or other files. 8. Copy your desired files in your desired
folder. 9. When you're finished copying your desired files, press the O button
on the PSP to get out of USB connect mode.
That's all there is to it and repeat as necessary. If you are looking a website
to download PSP Music, Movies or Games visit the website below.

Subject: 4 Reasons to Download Full DVD Movies
frgrdpyprbsc
Offline Offline

There are 4 main reasons why you should download full DVD movies. Recent
statistical research reveals that an average American spends more than 4.5 hours
watching TV daily. A good number of that is spent on movies. Since you can rent
or buy a movie VCD or DVD or even download it, let us try to understand why to
download full DVD movies seems to be the best option.
1. Cheaper to Download
Renting a movie can cost you a couple of dollars. And you get to watch it once
and never own it. Buying a DVD or VCD from the local stores can easily set you
back from $9.99 onwards easily. For the same amount of money you spend to rent
or buy, you can download full DVD movies, not one or two but at least a dozen or
more.
2. Convenience & Instant Delivery
Downloading full DVD movies online has to be the lazy man's method. You can do
so as and when you feel like it. If you feel bored during the weekends, or just
cannot sleep at night, you can watch one. There is no need to leave your home
and drive to the stores to buy a show. At such unearthly hours, they would not
be open at all!
3. No Physical Storage
Have you recently checked out your storeroom or your disc racks or cabinets?
Chances are you would be shocked to see piles of VCDs and DVDs collecting dust.
Mind you, these can take up a lot of space. And after a while, they can be
damaged due to the humidity or whatever elements of nature. This is something
you never have to live with when you download full DVD movies.
4. Safe and Fast Downloads
Nowadays, technology gets so advanced that it no longer takes hours just to
download a movie. You know that such files often are at least 500 Megabytes and
can take a long while to download. The sites that offer unlimited movie
downloads these days run on faster engines. Also, the environment is safe and
protected from virus and malware threats.
There you go, 4 good reasons why you should download full DVD movies online
instead of buying a VCD/DVD or even renting one. It only takes a minute for you
to get started. Check out my entertainment blog today.

"I divide my career as a writer into two categories: before I encountered the
teachings of Michael Hauge, and after. His ideas are that powerful. I recently
got a very lucrative book deal for my first book. More than any other single
person, Michael is responsible for getting me to that level as a storyteller."

- Josh Sundquist, Author: The Sum of My Parts

Greetings -

I am very excited to announce that this week Write Brothers is releasing the
Michael Hauge Story Structure Template for Movie Magic Screenwriter 6. The
template allows you to get my principles, techniques and advice for plot
structure, character development, character arc, love stories and theme as you
are writing your screenplay. Best of all, it's a free download for all current
Movie Magic Screenwriter 6 users, and will be included in the program in all
future editions.

To give you a better idea of the kind of information and guidance it contains,
this month's article on the key elements of Stage II of your story or screenplay
is taken directly from the template.

For a complete video demonstration of the template, click here. If you're
already MM Screenwriter 6 user and would like to download the template, just
click here. And to purchase Movie Magic Screenwriter 6 (including the free
template) at a special discounted price, click here.
I hope you enjoy the article, and all the other features in this month's
newsletter. And thank you to all of you who were kind enough to respond to our
recent survey. The new, simpler color scheme and layout of the newsletter is a
result of your responses.

All the best -

Michael

                                   THE KEY
ELEMENTS OF STAGE TWO
(From the Michael Hauge Story Structure Template for Movie Magic Screenwriter
6)

Stage II of a properly structured story begins at the 10% mark of a screenplay,
where the hero is led into the New Situation that starts to move the story
forward. If you're unfamiliar with my approach to structure, please click here
for an article outlining the Six Stages and Five Key Turning Points. Or for a
detailed explanation, including the Six Stages' relationship to character arc
and theme, get the DVD or CD of The Hero's 2 Journeys.

Turning Point #1 - OPPORTUNITY - 10%
At the 10% point in your screenplay (page 10-12), you must present your hero
with an OPPORTUNITY: something must happen to your hero which has never happened
before, which creates a desire or need to move to Stage II: a NEW SITUATION.

Stage II - New Situation
For the next 15% of the script, your hero must find herself somewhere she has
never been. Often this new situation involves an actual change of location. The
hero's primary goal in Stage II is to acquire information, figure out what's
going on, and/or get acclimated to her new surroundings. The key elements of the
NEW SITUATION are:

1. Glimpsing the Hero's Essence
The hero's ESSENCE is what he has the potential to become - the inner truth
that will emerge as he finds the emotional courage necessary to pursue his
goal. In Stage II, the hero should get a glimpse of what living in his essence
might look like. (When Shrek first tells the fairy tale creatures that he is
going to get Lord Farquaad to send them back home, they all cheer - and for the
first time he sees what being connected to others might mean.)

Q&A

We received a great response from my critique of Anne Jordan's opening scene
last month, including some interesting comments from Christopher Weismantel
which, along with my response, I think you will find helpful. (If you missed
last month's Newsletter, or would like to reread her scene and my comments,

Dear Michael,

Overall, I enjoyed your comments and thought that they were very helpful. Thanks
for letting us read them. If you'll allow it, I did take issue with a couple
of your comments:

  MAY SUBSCRIBER SUBMISSION

Thanks again for all of the submissions we received for this month's Newsletter.
I selected an opening scene by Russ Meyer of New Prague, Minnesota. Russ was one
of the few people who submitted his opening last month, then rewrote it and
submitted it again, greatly improved. I think that kind of commitment should be
rewarded. So thank you, Russ, for your courage and your tenacity.

To read Russ' opening scene, followed by my comments, click here. ENJOY!

JUNE SUBSCRIBER SUBMISSIONS

Next month's subscriber submissions will be much shorter. I'm going to critique
several examples of SETTING DESCRIPTIONS. So if you'd like your work to be
considered for selection in the next Newsletter, just email me a description of
any new setting in your story. It can occur anywhere - not just in the opening
scene. The passage should be no more than one or two paragraphs at most - and
might be only a sentence or two. I'll be looking to see if your description
creates a vivid image, draws us into the scene, creates a tone or mood, and is
(or at least might be) reflective of the characters that will populate that
setting. And so that my many novelist clients and subscribers are not
shortchanged, this can be a setting within a MANUSCRIPT as well as a screenplay.
I'll pick at least one of each to discuss next month.

WRITING MISDEMEANORS
These crimes may not get your screenplay or manuscript rejected, but you should
be punished for them...

#2 NO DESCRIPTION: Your job as a screenwriter is to create a movie in the mind
of your readers. You must draw us into your story by providing a clear picture
of what we'll see on the screen when we watch your film. You can't do that
without description! Heading a scene EXT. CHICAGO or INT. APARTMENT and then
jumping right into dialogue creates no image at all, and is more of a felony
than a misdemeanor. It will definitely kill your chances for a deal. Even action
alone doesn't do the job. "She answers the door," or, "She pokes out his eye,"
may create a picture, but it's so vague and indistinct that the reader will
become bored or frustrated. Even if you're a novelist -- I should say especially
if you're a novelist -- you must employ succinct, vivid description along with
your narration, action and dialogue. We want to imagine your characters, inhabit
your settings and be transported into the world you've created. So describe
it!

Lew Hunter's Superior Summer Screenwriting Colony 2009
Dates: June 13-26
Do you dream of being a screenwriter? Have you envisioned your name stretched
large and full across that big dark theater screen? More realistically, are you
prepared to put your fingers to the keyboard for hours and days on end to
complete and figure out all of those nuances of a story idea that you have
banging around in your head? Oh, the pained labor and glory of finding the right
words and breathing life into your characters. You know deep inside you could do
it.
Not everyone has seen The Bucket List with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman,
but most are aware of the premise: live your life to the fullest before you die.
Take the idea one step further, and I say seize your dreams now while you’re
still alive and vibrant and here. Don’t wait for the last moments to ponder
the “what ifs…”!
If you truly have that aching need to give your vision a shot, to write a
screenplay from start to finish so you can say, “I did it!,” you’ve
arrived at the place to start.
Lew Hunter’s Superior Summer Screenwriting Colony, this coming June 13-27,
immerses you into that nurturing, fulltime screenwriting experience you desire.
learn more >>
This coming summer from June 13th to the 26th, Lew Hunter hosts his Superior
Summer Screenwriting Colony. This is an intense program for serious writers of
all levels. You will learn the facts of the Hollywood business, the fundamentals
of writing screenplays and be given the foundation to grow as scribes.
The 14-day schedule will immerse you in the writing process where you will be
encouraged to progress from story idea, to treatment, to step-outline and
finally to complete the First Act of the Screenplay (30 pages). It is not
unusual for participants to finish their entire first draft.
Lew Hunter has been commended as “an enabler” and a superb teacher in this
craft, and his Screenwriting Colonies supply a nurturing environment where
screenwriters flourish and take a hold of their dreams. Lew will facilitate the
best writing by creating an atmosphere of constructive feedback for all
participants.
The Superior Summer Screenwriting Colony fills rapidly and it is strongly
suggested that you submit an application at your earliest opportunity to ensure
acceptance and availability.
All skill levels of writing experience are encouraged to apply and to
participate. We can easily accommodate the most basic beginner to the most
experienced professional. All writers will be respected, honored and supported
through the writing process.
Don’t ever look back on your life with regret. If screenwriting is something
that you have hungered to try – and succeed – the Superior Summer Colony is
the push-off point for you. To find out more, click here.

Are you wondering if your script is ready to go out to producers,
directors and stars?

Do you want to take your script to the next level, sell it quickly
and have it get made?

Do you know whether the script is ready for the marketplace, or what
to fix in the rewrite?

After examining your script's premise, tone, character development,
dialogue, plotting, structure, rhythm, pacing, format, and overall
marketability, Peter Myers will give you a spot-on, extensive
write-up showing which areas need work --- to give you a better shot
at selling it!

Peter has done this for indie production companies in which he was a
partner, and he became very sharp at it!

Peter has sold, written for hire, or optioned ten feature scripts and
has had a number of things produced for the media of syndicated
television and cable. In 2005, a script of his won an Honorable
Mention in the script competition at the Thunderbird Int'l Film
Festival.

In 2009, he anticipates writing a script for 2006 Oscar/Golden Globe
nominee, actor Terrence Howard who asked him to work on a project.
Peter has also developed a script with Best Picture Oscar-winning
producer, Fred Roos.

Two feature films (one in Los Angeles, and one in Alaska) have been
shot in 2009, using scripts rewritten according to Peter's analyses.
Peter has himself produced short films and is producing one of his
own theatrical feature scripts in 2009 on a $5 million dollar budget,
so he analyzes scripts from the viewpoints of both a writer and a
producer.
