HI
Wish all of you a lovely Easter.
This might be an unusual posting on the group forum (not even
remotely connected with the nuts & bolts of Screenwriting), but if you
guys could give me some useful, encouraging advice it'd be good. I
guess those of you resident in Canada would be able to help me a lot
better but I'm open to suggestions from all of you.
I have been a member with this group since the last 2 months but
haven't been active, chiefly because I'm chasing a formal, taught,
full-time Screenwriting course in Canada after aborting plans with UK
and USA due to funding constraints. I'm finally in the process of
applying to Vancouver Film School. It's not inexpensive; I'd be going
in for a hefty bank loan. I'm from India; there are no courses as such
here. A formal course will help me learn, acquire skills, develop
contacts and per force come out with at least 2 screenplays and 2
teleplays by the time I finish, get the opportunity to immerse myself
into the Canadian Film Industry. And I won't be granted a Visa any
other way than through immigration which takes time.
My question is, do I as a Writer from far and remote India, stand a
reasonable chance of securing a writing job in either Film or
Television or Interactive Medium in Canada after the course to merit
and sustain a Work permit? I'll be able to repay loans a lot more
smoothly with employment in Canada. I do plan to file for immigration
during the course. I score quite well in points. I'm aware that the
job market is very tight now and yet I ask.
Give me your valued counsel guys. And have a great Easter.
Thanks
Basil
