The Go Game relies on the very latest in wireless technology, keeping the
game moving with a constant give-and-take of digital information. Teams of 4
to 6 players compete with one another to complete a sequence of creative
challenges or "missions" in the most ingenious, daring, creative fashion. We
track your heroic deeds as you go along, verifying your location and the
time it took to complete each mission. Go Game conspirators may be lurking
around every corner.
Through clues downloaded to a wireless device and hints planted in unlikely
places, you'll be guided through a city you only think you're familiar with.
Clues can appear at any time, anywhere. Perhaps you didn't notice the woman
on the bus reading a magazine upside-down. Or the note stuck to the side of
the bathroom mirror of your favorite bar, or the electric scooter parked
outside with your name on it. After a day of Go, you will.
As a player you may be a sleuth, a superhero, a saboteur, or all three. It
all depends on, well, you. We at Go Game Central devise a diverse range of
activities to suit everyone's interests, aspirations, strengths, and
weaknesses. We beam these "missions" to your team and you, like any good
super-human, are to complete them with wit, cunning, and creativity. To play
The Go Game you'll need quick thinking, a little street smarts, a lot of
ingenuity, and the courage to break a few social rules.
After the final mission has been completed, teams convene at a local pub to
share their experiences -- in all their high-resolution, full-color glory.
Over beers and burgers, players vote on the digital photos and videos from
the day as they're projected on the big screen. Points are tallied in a
hilarious exchange of the day's events and the winning team makes off with
the prize.

Grown ups not ready after all: TerraQuest game axed
by Peter Cohen, pcohen@...
January 17, 2003 4:15 pm ET
Last November MindQuest Entertainment founder and CEO Keith Griffin
triumphantly declared that his company's online spy game TerraQuest was the
kind of game "adults play when they grow up." Alas, not enough of them did,
because MindQuest today announced that the game had been stopped.
Designed for Mac OS X and Windows using Shockwave and other technology,
TerraQuest encouraged players to search for clues for a US$25,000 payout. In
fact, a quarter of a million dollars was to be awarded to players by the end
of six play periods. Players paid a one-time registration fee for the
privilege.
Although MindQuest made it clear at the outset in an interview with
MacCentral that the prize money was funded from sources other than direct
registration fees, they couldn't keep the ball rolling long enough to make
it work.
"There is simply not enough participation in the experience to keep this
version of TerraQuest going," said the company in a statement.
MindQuest plans to take the feedback of users and editors who reviewed the
game to modify its "structural part," and hopes to revisit the concept in
the future.
Players who participated in TerraQuest won't be out a dime, however:
MindQuest Entertainment noted that all registration fees and charges for
"express clues" will be refunded in full to each player. The winner of the
first game period -- Roland Spencer -- will get his $25,000 payout as
promised.

The Cloudmakers Yahoo! Group has now changed its membership from "open"
(anyone can join) to "moderated".
Moderated membership means that the moderators approve any requests for
membership to the Cloudmakers Yahoo! Group.
Over the last few months, the number of new members has slowed down to a
trickle and we believe that changing to moderated membership will reduce the
amount of spam that the group has been receiving.
On behalf of the Cloudmakers Moderators,
Dan (co-mod)
Nokia Game 2002, an interactive adventure provided by Nokia, will be played
from 11 to 29 November in nine languages across 25 countries in Europe and
the Middle East simultaneously. During the game, players receive a mission
that they must complete within the next 20 days. Those players who complete
the mission to the fullest (i.e. score the most points) will win.
Compared to previous versions of Nokia Game, this year offers both active
and casual players the opportunity to play at their own level. Due to a new
game concept, players can enjoy the experience 24 hours a day, if they want
to, and upload and share their own created content to amaze and impress
fellow players.
In addition, players are challenged to create a new game identity and
investigate - using their game identity - the borders between fiction and
reality. Close cooperation with the world's largest music publishing
companies has resulted in a game theme that will teach participants the ins
and outst of today's music business.
Nokia Game uses the Internet, SMS, chat, interactive voice response (IVR)
calls and mini-movies distributed over the web to share information and
provide clues and instructions to the players. There's no participation fee
to participate in Nokia Game. To play, participants need to have access to
the Internet, an e-mail address, and a mobile phone with the capacity to
receive short messages.
At the end of the game, the top 10-100 players in each country will each win
a special new Nokia 3650 phone with integrated camera, video player and
camrecorder. The winners will be among the first in their region to own and
use this new phone.

Dear all,
You might be wondering what's happening with the Cloudmakers list. Well, for
those of you who still stop by every once in a while, here's an update (it
might not be going out on a Tuesday but it's an update nonetheless).
1 September 2002 saw the launch of Collective Detective
(http://www.collectivedetective.org/), a new community site for games such
as the Beast.
It's our belief that the Cloudmakers list and Collective Detective can, and
will, co-exist :)
So, for what it's worth, he's a clarification of the position of
Cloudmakers:
Cloudmakers the website, at http://www.cloudmakers.org/, will continue to be
the archive for the original Beast material, the trail, the guide and the
other fun bits that soaked up months of your life for the foreseeable
future.
Cloudmakers the list, at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cloudmakers/, will
also still be sticking around to provide a free mailing list about
everything to do with the Beast, and posting information about new games in
the genre. Yahoo! might be sticking it to us with adverts, but we'll be
trying our best to post the most interesting news to the list, and hey, it's
free!
Basically? We're still here, and we're still sticking around if you'd like
to talk :)
Regards,
Dan (co-mod)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April.11.2002
TaxiCafe Media contracted to develop community site for
Distributed Investigative Environments
Collective Detective has announced the upcoming release of
CollectiveDetective.org, a resource for managing Distributed
Investigative Environments. Collective Detective is a start-up
agency
whose mission is to empower the public with information and data
management tools for collaboration in providing solutions to complex
mysteries.
TaxiCafe Media was selected to develop the project after
spectacularly underbidding every other entrant, and partially
because
of the company's extensive involvement in development of the
Cloudmaker community, the world-renowned organization and world
leader of fictional immersive campaigns. Consistently proving
themselves as having the pulse of the community, TaxiCafe Media
received clearance to seek feature feedback and commentary from
thirteen members of Cloudmakers and Jawbreakers.
"We were very adamant about having the feedback of pioneers in the
area. The bottom line is, you can't design a project of this scope
and not solicit feedback from the very people you're trying to
develop a better community structure for", explains Josh Babetski,
company President. "But to have a few thousand people throw in their
two-cents is insanity. hopefully, we'll be able to include more
individuals in the beta-testing phase."
"Collective Detective is filling a need to provide all-inclusive
online facilities for these groups who are answering the call to
unravel questions in a world where information's accuracy and
timeliness have never been more important", says Randall Cremean,
Media Relations for TaxiCafe. "The current resources no longer fit
the needs of these organizations. It is a quagmire of duct tape and
pop-up ads."
Collective Detective has instructed TaxiCafe Media to provide
monthly
progress updates. Interested parties are asked not to make direct
inquiries to either organization, as they will not be returned.
TaxiCafe Media refused to comment on a rumored feature called
the "Uber Trout Function."
Some of the features that will be included in
CollectiveDetective.org:
- Single login for messages, evidence trail, and detective profiles.
- Message rating system: Quickly evaluate, and grade the quality of
incoming information.
- Message organization by Topic headers as well as classic "Yahoo"
style.
- Detective profiles organized by cases, with improved search
functionality.
- Checks and Balances system for moderators. Elections and no-
confidence removal features provide user oversight.
- Improved group web space with increased functionality and storage
space.
TaxiCafe Media will supply another update on or before May 11, 2002.
Depending on demand, there may be an online press conference to take
questions before the site's launch sometime this summer.

As an anniversary treat, Brian Seitz unzipped xocxoc's Beast archive
onto cloudmakers.org. The website now contains the [nearly] complete
archive of the game sites as they looked on July 23rd. Thanks to
xocxoc, a.k.a. Paul Cox, for all his hard work and for allowing us to
present the archive in this way. Thanks also to Elan Lee for giving us
the go ahead -- or at least for turning a blind eye (whichever the
lawyers prefer).
The Trail, Guide, and Journey have been updated to link to the new
archive instead of to the dead game sites. This is a great opportunity
for people who joined Cloudmakers post-Endgame to see what they missed.
The game also now makes a pretty good read in this form for old-timers
as well.
Dead links from other sections of the website have been either hunted
down to their new homes or eliminated. We may well have errors on the
site, and anyone who finds them is encouraged to write to
bugs@....
The new logo and rough layout were designed by Dan Hon.
The FAQ will be rewritten ASAP.
The old site is being archived. It will live at
http://trout.cloudmakers.org, and will be accessible by a link from the
main menu. The subdomain simply hasn't resolved yet.
. . . I think that's it. Enjoy!

I've written up about 20 pages of notes on Elan Lee's lecture at the
Game Developer's Conference in San Jose.
http://pantheon.yale.edu/~dgf4/notagame/
Takeaway: It's time to start getting excited again. Elan has a new
department, called "The Hive" and is less than a month away from a
major milestone. The child of the Beast is coming, so you might as
well quit your job now. ;)

Subject: [cloudmakers] Star Wars trailer game?
OK, haven't posted here since last summer, but a friend of mine just
brought this to my attention:
At the end of the episode II trailer they showed tonight, they listed
this website at the end: www.holonetnews.com
Dang... looks awfully suspicious if you ask me... anyone else catch
this? Explored the site any? I'm just now looking through it, and
there's one area where they ask for a six digit number right on the
front page. Random numbers give you random weather reports for
random planets...
Help! Anyone!
Sus
None of the other websites appear to be live to me. As to whether there's
a link to a new game or not . . . I doubt it. Every indication that we've
had from the PMs suggested that they would have need *way* more prep
time for Round Two than they had for The Beast. So, don't count your
chickens till they hatch, but it's worth checking out all the same.

Trout me if necessary, but I accidentally clicked on an old link when
deleting some old mail... and apparently, the Beast is back up. Or
at least Familia Salla is. Was this never taken down, or has
Microsoft decided to indeed recognize the argument of "but it's
really cool!"?
Or, more intriguingly, is it maybe up as a tie to the new game?

And sorry to all...not a word about the Beast !!!
No DVD-Rom features, not a mention about the beast, nothing. Even the
trailers are missing. We just have the teaser and the first
trailer with the warning and the seven key words, that's all. Very sad
to see that the work of the PM's is not even recognized by
Spielberg. Maybe he didn't like what the project ended beeing.
Anyway, the US DVD is already available here in Switzerland and I'm
sad to see that our world was missing in there.

Swissben

I got a note from Ben Solo, he is working to find out what the
forbidden messages are all about, in the mean time at least one
volunteer is offering to mirror the file. (any other takers?)
Obviously, the demand is a little too high right now, but be patient.
Also, there is another A.I. DVD Review up at aintitcool.com. No
mention of "The Beast" anywhere in the review, but so far no reviewer
has put the DVD into a computer to check out the DVD ROM side of
things.

For the missing bits, you can browse my archive at:

Some sites are missing (but I'll fill them in from here), but it's
designed to be viewed online, and all the flash files have been edited
to work correctly.
So use mine for browing, xocxoc's for keepsake and all the other nifty
stuff he's included. hehe :)

Subject: [cloudmakers] Planetarium
http://www.beholder.co.uk/planetarium/
"A girl with complete foresight but no recollection of the past receives
a love-letter from beyond the end of her future. Guided by her friend
the mathemagician, she begins a journey through the events which his
calculations have predicted and her intuition has foreseen, towards the
source of the curious letter."
"Each instalment contains three puzzles -- usually one riddle, one
number problem and one tricky puzzle -- whose answers themselves form an
overall puzzle, which can only be solved when the whole of Planetarium
has been completed."
"Planetarium is a story-puzzle in weekly instalments. You can simply
enjoy reading the story, or you can try solving some of the puzzles
embedded within it. You don't need to solve -- or even attempt to solve
-- any of the puzzles to progress from one instalment to the next."
I think this might appeal to one or two of us :)
