I just posted another note to the IMDB Counterstrike board about
this. The series is still airing daily in Canada in syndication. It
has not aired in USA in many years.

About 5 years ago, a contact in Canada sent me the complete series
recorded on VHS at ep speed. She sent me original tapes, not
copies. The reason it was done at ep speed is because there was so
much content - 66 one hour episodes, so that was the only way
practical. I then made VHS copies available to Glenn, again the
copies were done at ep speed, since that was the only thing
practical with so much content. Hence, the quality loss.

Of course, back in the VHS days, I recorded everything at SP speed
(best quality). But an exception had to me made for Counterstrike.

So, now that I still have all these original Counterstrike VHS
tapes, I am slowly transferring them to DVD (using a high quality s-
vhs deck with TBC and sending the signal over higher quality s-video
cable to the DVD recorder). I am really happy with the quality of
the DVD's using this method. It is a very time consuming project, as
I am editing out all the commercials on the DVD recorder with a hard
drive.

I am transferring 2 episodes per DVD, with the video at a 6.0 bit
rate. If you try to cram many episodes onto each DVD you will lower
the quality, so I am keeping it at 2 per dvd. With the commercials
edited out, each DVD runs about 95 minutes.

There are 3 seasons, 66 episodes in in total.

For now, I am limiting this project to transferring to DVD Season 2
only, plus 2 additional episodes: "The Beginning" from Season 1 (a
good episode, plus it sets up the whole series) + "Cherchez la
Femme" from Season 3 (Plummer played piano in that one - I think
that's the only episode where he played piano).

I will eventually try to do the rest, unless someone else can get to
it first. This is very time consuming, so I can only deal with this
one season at a time.

Welcome to the group,
I do have most of the Counterstrike episodes on VHS tapes, but
unfortuately they were recorded on 8 hr and 10 tapes, at EP speed, so
the video quality is not good, but I do remember one or two episodes
where he plays the piano, though I don't recall the number or name of
the episodes.

Hi there,

I am new to the group. I am a big fan of Chris and of TSOM.

Also really loved Counterstrike and I am looking for an episode or two
of this show.

Did a search and there is one of CP playing the piano.

Can you advise which episode that was?

Thanks,

E

Oh, yeah, it's a boring war movie as far as the story goes, but to me, it's

Excellent review of that poolside scene from Inside Daisy Clover, Tammy!

I don't think I can pick one scene, but one that comes to mind at the moment
is a certain hotel room scene with Susannah York in Battle of Britain. LOL!
Beside the obvious - we get to see Christopher SHIRTLESS and enjoy his
gorgeous body - I think his excellent acting ability comes through loud and
clear
there, too. In the beginning, he's relaxing in bed with his wife, but when
the bombing starts outside, he quickly jumps out of bed (more of his amazing

I'll take anything that shows us how gorgeous he is, and he WAS hot in this

- but his acting talent just cannot be ignored!

Hi everyone,

In the interest of starting a discussion, I would like to pose a
question to you all. Excluding The Sound of Music, what is your
favorite scene in any of Christopher Plummer's movies?

I haven't seen all of his movies, but one of my favorite scenes is
the poolside scene from Inside Daisy Clover. Christopher Plummer's
character, Raymond Swan, has just spent the night with his suicidal
wife and he walks out by the pool and finds Natalie Wood's
character, Daisy, lying in a lounge chair.

I love this scene for many reasons. The most obvious are the kiss
(of course) and the fact that the man looks absolutely gorgeous in
a suit. I also like that this scene gives some dimension to the
previously one-sided character of Raymond Swan. We learn that
Raymond Swan loves his wife and that he feels terribly inadequate
when compared to the larger-than-life-images of the movie stars he
helps to create.

I especially like this scene because of the way it was filmed.
Raymond Swan is talking to Daisy, but the camera never cuts to her
face, even when he is reacting to her reaction to what he is
saying. It showcases Mr. Plummer's talents. With the camera
directed at him the entire time, it must have been a difficult scene
to shoot, but he performs it beautifully.

And the kiss; the kiss is passionate and agonizing at the same
time. It is not a happily-ever-after kind of kiss. Raymond Swan
does not love Daisy and she certainly does not love him. The kiss
is just a mutual sharing of pain. They have both been hurt by the
same man and are taking comfort in each others pain.

I want to hear from the rest of you. What is your favotite scene?

By the way; the Laendler dance scene is my favorite scene from the
SOM.

Tammy

McGill to award Plummer honorary degree for work

MONTREAL (CP) — Actor Christopher Plummer, best known as the grumpy Baron Von
Trapp in The Sound of Music, will receive an honorary degree from McGill
University on Thursday.
Plummer, a Montreal native, will pick up his degree at the Arts and Religion
graduation ceremonies.
Besides his role as the widower in The Sound of Music, he has garnered high
praise for complex, meatier roles like King Lear, Macbeth and Iago on the
Shakespearean stage.
A number of others are receiving honorary degrees from McGill during
convocation ceremonies, which began Monday and continue through June 6.
They include James Bartleman, a Canadian diplomat and the first aboriginal to
serve as Ontario’s lieutenant governor, and Pierre Jeanniot, the former
president of Air Canada and a civil aviation expert who was instrumental in
developing the flight data recorder.

Hello....
Are you referring to "TSOM ~ The Making of America's Favorite Musical"
by Julia Antopol Hirsch ??

It is available through Amazon.Com

You should also check out "Forever Liesl" by Charmian Carr.

They're both must haves for SOM fans...

I am also awaiting Julie Andrews and Chris Plummer's bios...which I
do hope they will be "completed" in the near future...

DOES anyone have any updates on either of the above BIOS...what the
status might be??? I read somewhere that Julie is 2/3 completed...BUT
have not heard about Chris'???
I would be very interested in knowing... Thanks.
~Grace~

I think that Chris's performance in the extremely well-made Ken Burns PBS
documentary about Eugene O'Neill, is one of his finest. He plays several scenes
as James Tyrone from "Long Day's Journey into Night", and when I played the DVD
today for a 101-year old friend, he said after viewing Chris's portion of the
documentary, that it seemed to him to be real and not acting at all. I highly
recommend this documentary and especially the extra DVD scenes with CP.

Hello,
Perhaps this is NOT the best place to ask this question, and perhaps
it is...but, does anyone know what happened to the above CP fan site:
(billy-peterson.com/plummer, etc.??)I've been wondering....
It was a wonderful site, I miss searching for all those wonderful
photos, videos, etc.

The person who ran the site simply lost interest in keeping it up. I agree,
I miss it, too, and I told her so.
