G'day, it is conceivable that Gen. Chang was based very very loosely on Diyan.
In that same
film, David Warner's character (Gorkon), was meant to be a kind of hybrid
between
Gorbechev and Lincoln! It maybe that they also wanted Chang to have a "link" to
another
historical and controversial political figure such as Diyan. I really liked
Christopher
Plummer in Star Trek 6; he really contributed to making that film the best out
of the
original 6 that were made. He really really puts an extra special twist into the
villains he
plays
