In my recent posts about my trip to Vermont and the Trapp Family Lodge, I
mentioned getting to see Elisabeth von Trapp in concert, and I want to expand on
that a bit. For anyone who's not familiar with her music, you don't know what
you're missing!
On TV and on the radio today, we are being bombarded with what I call
"manufactured stars," individuals who might or might not be talented, but in
many
cases have sold out their art to achieve fame and commercial success. Elisabeth
von Trapp is one exceptionally talented artist in every sense of the word, and
she remains true to her art! If you're not familiar with her music, check
out her website at www.elisabethvontrapp.com, and remember, that's Elisabeth
with an S, not a Z! She has a total of four CD's available, and all are
wonderful. My favorite is "One Heart, One Mind" because it contains so much of
her
original material, including the title song which was written about her father's
family, the Trapp Family Singers. (For my fellow Sound of Music fans,
Elisabeth's father is Werner von Trapp, one of the "original seven" von Trapp
children - think Kurt in the movie.)
If you ever get the chance to see her in concert, DO IT!!!! She is fantastic
on stage, and that night I saw her, she and her husband (who is also her
manager) Ed Hall were absolutely wonderful to my mother and me! They, as well
as
some of the people in charge of the event (her concert in Ripton, VT, was part
of a Robert Frost weekend at Middlebury College, Breadloaf Campus), were
excited that we were coming such a long distance, and they made us feel so
special! After that, I'm ready to do it all again, and will get the chance on
November 26, when Elisabeth will be in concert in Lewisburg, West Virginia.
That
concert date hasn't yet been added to the tour schedule on her website, and the
upcoming dates that are there so far are almost all in the New England area.
So if you're in the Northeastern US, or will be anytime in the next few
months, check out Elisabeth's tour schedule and see her if you can! You won't
be
disappointed!
