Remember Matthew Shepard? He was the 21 year old guy from Wyoming
who was murdered for being gay. As you probably know, Busy Phllipps
starred in Anatomy of a Hate Crime about Matthew.
Well, 5 years later, and his legacy needs to be continued. The
anti-gay Rev. Phelps has announced plans to erect an anti-Matt
memorial stating that he "entered Hell on October 12 1998" for being
gay.
There is a link to an online anti-Phelps petition at the following
group. Matthew no longer has a voice. It is up to us to make sure
we speak for him.

reply here.
Thanks I really appreciate it if you could help.

Wasn't she amazing?! I was so happy to see her in a scene more than 5
seconds long! And her voice is so beautiful. She's an awesome singer!
For everyone who watches Dawson's Creek soley for Busy as I do, next
week will be her last epsiode. :'(
although i respect your opinion, i have to disagree with your
sentiments regarding busy in stuff. not that i am a regular reader
of that genre of men's magazines, but if you compare busy's pictures,
and especially her interview, with the women that fill the pages of
stuff and maxim, etc. i think you will see that busy is presented in
a whole different light. in the interview she comes across as
intelligent, funny, and down to earth (not your typical
model/actress).
your comment about busy giving average girls hope goes to show how
the stuff magazine pictures can further this. not only is busy
beautiful-- she is super hot! these pictures show that "average"
or "real" women's bodies are much sexier than skinny model types.
and about the airbrushing-- i don't think that is something that busy
has any control over. that is something that happens at the magazine
without her input.
okay, that is all . . .

Girls who weigh 85 pounds are not desirable, they look like they just got
out of concentration camps. Give me a girl like Busy anytime.

I'll start off by saying I'm about the biggest Busy fan out there.
I've adored her since I met her on the small screen and adored her
even more after meeting her in person. And yes, some people even say
I look like her. What a compliment! Nevertheless, today, I saw her
poses in Stuff Magazine. And for lack of better words, I was
disturbed. Very disturbed. So I wanted to throw out my thoughts in
case she ever happens to stop by and read the posts here on her fan
group.
Busy, sweets, its beyond me why you feel that you have to pose nearly
naked shy of a chain belt to be beautiful, to be popular, to be up to
par with Hollywood. I fell in love with you (in a total hetero way)
upon meeting you because of your originality, the way you had your
own style and didn't follow the latest trends, the "screw you"
attitude you gave to the world of fame because you loved who you were
and didn't see reason to change for anyone or anything else. That is
what set you apart from any actress I'd ever known and that's what
has drawn me to you ever since. I watch you and I pray that I can be
half as original and unique as that some day. I watch you and I hope
I can have the bravery to say no when I really don't want to do
something or embrace something I really want whole heartedly with no
reserve and to follow my own path instead of that of the "crowd".
I've watched you and my motto (which I stole from you from an
interview when you were referencing to your co-worker Linda in F&G)
has become "You are who I want to be when I grow up!" I don't want
that to change now.
You are so absolutely beautiful without sporting vulgar poses in a
semi-playboy type magazine. There's just not a need to sell yourself
cheap when money couldn't buy your vibrant personality and awesome
wit. You give average girls as myself hope and encouragement...that a
woman doesn't have to weigh 85 pounds to be desirable. You are
beautiful inside and out and you are extraordinary for the mere
reason that you've refused to follow the crowd all these years and
kept up with your own thing. That is what makes you so awesome and
admirable! And you know what? I love your freckles! Why pose and have
them airbrushed off? You're much too beautiful just the way you are
without revealing thongs and trashy positions. Now, I could be
totally wrong and way off with my perception, so if I am, please
forgive me. But when I see these types of things, I think of women
who have nothing else to offer except their bodies. No talent or
gifts or anything of the sort. Just sex-wise. And that is so NOT the
case with our beloved Busy. She is full and running over with talent,
class and charm. Her acting and even singing, that's only the
beginning! It just appears that she's selling her self short for
promotion when there's no need for it because anyone who can
recognize true talent when they see it will be all means recognize
Busy.
So.... from the bottom of my heart, I ask you to come back to us and
be the Busy I've adored since you introduced yourself to us on Freaks
and Geeks because in my opinion, you're already the best you can be
minus the semi-nude play girl shots. You have so much more to offer
than this. And these things are not what make you beautiful. You're
already there!
I was surfing through and found your email list. Hi I m Missy from
Ohio. I was wondering if anyone knew how i could get a copy of this
movie? If anyone can record it for me I can send money to cover the
tape and the cost to mail it. Thanks for your time. Missy
Hey. Just real quick-like: a friend of mine has become a lil sick &

autographs or what not of the DCers would help..I do reside in
Wilmington & it wouldn't be so hard to get...

Thanks casezille for replying! I hate I missed that. Truthfully
though, I never even saw Busy in F&G. I had never heard of her until
Dawson's Creek, and then she just felt like someone I'd known all my
life. She has that great down-to-earthness about her.
*Has anyone ever met Busy in person? I met her last summer and she
was so precious! I would love to hear other people's stories if they
have any. :o)
Thanks!
Hi! Busy was in a couple episodes of Undeclared. It was a show on FOX that
had many of the actors that were on Freaks and Geeks. ~Megan =)

A big happy birthday to Busy! I'm new to the group (hi ;)) and I
wanted to post an article that was in my school newspaper back in
November. Apparently her sister Leigh Ann was a broadcasting major
here before moving on to bigger and better things.

Arizona native 'Busy' with 'Dawson's Creek' role
By Stephanie Paterik
Arizona State University, State Press Magazine
November 1, 2001
Arizona native Busy Philipps has come a long way from being the
girl with the tumor-causing, teeth-staining, smelly, puking habit.
A few years ago, she answered a casting call at her high school
for the part of a smoking club-girl for an anti-tobacco commercial.
Soon, Philipps was seen on TV wagging a cigarette and her butt
before being thrown out by an angry mob.
These days, Philipps is wagging her L.A.-blond locks and designer
dresses on the set of Dawson's Creek. And her TV roommate, Joey
(Katie Holmes), isn't about to throw her out.
"I know I've had a fairly easy time getting into the business
because it really all just happened for me," Philipps said. "I know
people work for years without even getting an agent, and it's not
because they're any less talented. I've just had a pretty easy deal."
The deal didn't start out so easy, though. Her 30-second
commercial caused quite a stir after an Arizona Republic reporter
saw Philipps smoking outside a restaurant. The report wrote a column
criticizing the then Chaparral High School student for being a
smoker and appearing in an anti-smoking commercial.
"They asked me at the audition if I smoked and I told them I did,
and they hired me anyway," Philipps said. "The next thing I knew, I
was getting calls from radio stations asking me for my statement.
It's now infamous in my family -- the time Busy did an antismoking
commercial and got caught smoking."
In just a few short years, Philipps has gone from smoking
commercials and local notoriety to national TV shows and invitations
to the Playboy mansion. She starred in the short-lived but
critically acclaimed sitcom Freaks and Geeks and appeared in the TV
movie The Matthew Shepard Story.
From an on-screen freak with stringy hair and black eye-liner to
a popular L.A. native with designer clothes, Philipps is agreeing to
anything but type-cast. And the irony of going from the fringe crowd
to the in crowd is not lost on her.
"Dawson's Creek is a huge change from Freaks and Geeks -- Freaks
and Geeks was sort of the antithesis of Dawson's Creek," she said,
pausing to laugh at the idea. "Although we had teens in it, we
weren't really a teen show. (Freaks) was for people who can look
back at painful aspects of high school -- we were not all attractive
and cool. In Dawson's Creek, everyone's attractive and the biggest
problem is who you are dating."
Philipps plays the role of Audrey, a rich girl from L.A. who
rooms with Joey in the dorms during their first semester of college.
Philipps said she can relate to her character's party girl syndrome.
Before landing a role on Freaks, Philipps was a student for two
years at Loyola Marymount in California.
"It's one of those things I experienced when I went to college
because I'm an outgoing person," she said. "Even though when I got
there I was partying, I still got really lonely because I missed my
family.
Audrey wants a good friend in Joey. She's the opposite of Joey,
and it's a nice dichotomy between the two of them. She's sort of the
comic relief -- I get all the best lines."
Aside from great lines, perhaps the best part of Philipps' new
gig is the wardrobe. And makeup. And hair.
"It's nice because I finally get to be pretty for something I'm
doing," she said. "I didn't get to wear makup (in Freaks) except
eyeliner, which really isn't flattering. ... Now I get to wear
really nice clothes."
A strange sound, like a mischievous boy throwing his voice,
stopped Philipps short. She let out a hearty, unabashed laugh before
explaining over the phone, "that was Josh (Jackson). They're filming
across the street."
Isn't working with "heartthrobs" like Jackson and James Van Der
Beek a bonus, too (in addition to the clothes)? Don't they -- and
stars like them -- illicit even the smallest junior high jitters?
"Not really. I've never really been star struck," she said
slowly, seemingly embarrassed by her answer. "I guess because
(acting) is what I do, too. And even if I'm not at the level where
Katie (Holmes) is at, where she is so recognizable, I just come from
a place that I understand that this doesn't make you a special
person. It's just your job, and if people respect you for it, it's
even cooler."
Jackson apparently distracted her again, and after shooing him
Philipps digressed -- "I do have a little story," she said, as if
she'd just chosen "truth" at a slumber party session of Truth or
Dare.
"I was goooing out with this boy for a really long time whowas in
an episode of (the TV show) Band of Brothers," she said. "I went to
England last year to celebrate Thanksgiving with him during the
filming, and Donnie Wahlberg is in Band of Brothers."
Like any true child of the 80s -- late 80s, to be exact --
Philipps got the jitters from a former member of New Kids on the
Block.
"He's a really nice guy, he's got kids, he's in his 30s, and he
was talking to me about fear of flying," she said. "And all of a
sudden it hit me that if you had told me when I was 12 years old
that I'd be having Thanksgiving with one of the New Kids on the
Block, I'd have died.
"It just struck me at that moment that I have a pretty weird
life. I have experiences that others don't."
Hey everyone!
I was just dropping in to let you all know about my new Busy
website, which can be found at busy-philipps.com. Please tell me
what you think about it! THanks a lot!

Busy's movie, "HOME ROOM" took top honors at last week's Santa Cruz
Film Festival. There's also a featurette about "HOME ROOM" and Busy
on the Starz-Cinema channel until May 20th. The homeroomthemovie.com
website has air times listed in it's "latest news" section.
