To The Moonlighting DVD Campaign Supporters:
Hi. Guess you thought we'd forgotten about you, huh? Thought it was
about time we took a moment to update you on the progress of the DVD
campaign.
A little history: About eight months ago, a group of five of us
decided to take on the challenge of developing a Moonlighting DVD
campaign. We developed a website, a petition, press releases, and a
letter writing and email campaign. This campaign was directed to Mr.
Steve Nadelberg, at Anchor Bay Entertainment. You all wrote tons of
email and snail mail pleas to Anchor Bay, with little or no
response. Finally, after months of hammering on their door without
answer, one of the campaign members received a letter from Mr.
Nadelberg, stating that Anchor Bay no longer controlled the rights to
the Moonlighting series. Ok, fine, a little setback. So then we set
out to find out exactly who DID control those rights.
We had our suspicions, but nobody would give us a straight answer.
Finally, it all fell into place….two of the campaign members were
fooling around on the Web, and found a source at the Academy of
Television Arts and Sciences website. Their suggestion was to call
the USC Cinema/Television Library and have the research desk locate
it for us.
USC gave us the long awaited news that, yes indeed, it was a "Mouse"
that held the strings of Moonlighting….Disney, in their Buena Vista
Home Entertainment Division.
We had suspected as much, and even had the name of a contact at Buena
Vista Home Entertainment. We called his office, and got some very
interesting information. We were told that Moonlighting was a series
that was currently under consideration for conversion to DVD. We
were also given the name of Susan Soria, Executive Director of the
Marketing Group for BVHE. We were also told that Ms. Soria would
certainly be interested in the fan effort and support behind the
Moonlighting DVD campaign.
We have written Ms. Soria, telling her about our support for the
release of DVDs, and also sent her a copy of the petition, which now
has signatures totaling over 1200 people, from all over the world.
So here we are….and what do we do now? Has the whole eight months
been a waste? We think, absolutely not and we'll tell you why:
n The fan support is fantastic. Every day we receive new sign ups to
the mailing list, and new signatures for the petition.
n The link to the DVD campaign and the petition is linked prominently
to, and supported by both Cybill.com, and BruceWillis.com, the
official sites of the stars of the series.
n The link is also featured and supported by many American and
foreign sites including Moonlighting sites, classic TV sites, and
sites of the 80's. It has received recognition from many sites with
huge fan bases, who can be called on as needed to support our efforts.
So what do we do? We rev up our efforts, and we start again, with
the same kind of fervor we used when we launched our original
campaign on Anchor Bay. We send letters galore to Miss Soria, and
let her know that we see this as a smart and lucrative move for
BVHE. We need to prove to her that these DVDs would appeal to a
large audience and make some more money for the "Mouse". We also
appeal to their ability to help to bring a classic TV series to new
audiences, who deserve a look at the bold and innovative things that
make Moonlighting great.
To this end, and to encourage your participation, we have done a
total overhaul of the DVD site, and we suggest you take a look. It
is bolder, brighter, and has all the up-to- date info on where to
address your concerns about Moonlighting DVD. We also encourage you
to recommend it to your friends…your family….your mailman - anyone
who would like to help in the campaign. Click to see the newly
updated MoonlightingDVD site
We'll be in touch with some more details as they come available. For
now, please do write some letters. There are samples on the site
that you can even use verbatim. Or compose your own ode to
Moonlighting. Talk about what you'd like to see on the DVDs - cast
and crew commentaries, outtakes and bloopers, previews and
commercials aired for the episodes - there are lots of things we
remember that we'd just love to see again. And if there is any way
for you to forward a copy of any correspondence to
info@..., it would sure help us to keep track of what
kind of communication we are sending to BVHE.
We have to tell you - this feels good. After months of trying, we
feel we're getting closer. If we all band together and revitalize
the effort, who knows what might happen? Aren't these guys the
people who coined the phrase "The dreams that you wish do come true."?
We thank you for your great support. It will all seem worth it,
soon, when we have our Moonlighting DVDs in hand.
Sincerely,
The Moonlighting DVD Campaign Staff
We're not asking for the moon, just Moonlighting DVDs.
