The goal of The Kaizen Center for Strategic and Integrative Arts is to
provide training, services and products to better prepare the individual
to deal with the realities of the 21st century. In circulating our
complimentary Newsletter it is my hope that it provides interest, if not
insight, into topics that should be meaningful to us all.

The Kaizen Center for Strategic and Integrative Arts is born of a
holistic vision of what it means to be human. This encompassing view is
in actuality a direct manifestation of the MAMBA-Ryu paradigm of Five
Spheres in which each sphere refers to an aspect of the human being to
be developed: the Earth Sphere is the domain of physical existence while
the Water Sphere is the environmental or contextual realm in which we
find ourselves; the Fire Sphere represents the conscious/cognitive mind
while the Wind Sphere addresses the non-conscious/emotive mind; and
finally the Void Sphere is the Tao of MAMBA, the philosophical/spiritual
underpinnings that "hold it all together." Thus, in simple terms
the human being is seen as having a physical body to develop, a
conscious mind to discipline, a non-conscious mind to explore and
cultivate, an environment to which to adapt, to overcome and perhaps at
times to exploit, and a philosophical/spiritual facet with which to
harmonize all of the above. Each of these spheres is contained in the
rest, none being completely independent of the rest.

This paradigm of integration runs contrary to the dominant Western trend
of increasing specialization and reductionism, thus opposing the
conventional `wisdom' expressed by the popular adage, "jack
of all trades: master of none." In nature, however, the most
successful species are quite often the most adaptable and the price of
over-specialization is frequently extinction; thus nature responds to
the previous expression with its own wisdom: "master of one makes
for none." Nevertheless, it is my view that the tide is slowly
turning in Western civilization as a whole and we are returning to the
ideal of the "Renaissance Man" – the master of many trades.
We need breadth but not at the expense of depth, something we emphasize
at The Kaizen Center. The secret to obtaining breadth and depth comes
from integration across conventionally defined fields and disciplines,
from breaking free of culturally conditioned molds, divisions, and
stereotypes, of having the courage and the creativity to see things as
they are rather than as we want them to be.

With this Newsletter I want to reach out to a broad community of people,
martial artists and non-martial artists alike, and share with them a
vision for self-development and liberation within the spirit of "we
might be different, we might not agree, but in the end we share in
something ineffable and undeniable: being human."

The Kaizen Center is about questions such as: "Who and what would I
be should I transcend my greatest fears?" and "Where am I? Where
do I want to be? How do I get there?" Please join us in pondering
the answers and in coming up with newer and more challenging questions.

'Kaizen' means "constant improvement," a Japanese term usually applied
to the realms of manufacturing and technology. Kaizen refers to a
persevering spirit dedicated to excellence and innovation. At The Kaizen
Center for Strategic and Integrative Arts we apply the kaizen principle
to all aspects (physical, psychological, spiritual, or emotional) of our
personal development programs.

'Dojo' in Japanese means "the place where you practice the 'way'," that
is, the 'way' to personal perfection, to spiritual development, harmony,
inner peace, and bliss. Our motto "Where the world is our dojo" refers
to the emphasis which we place on ensuring that our instruction,
training, and teachings are not limited to a given location in time and
space, but rather applicable in all walks of life.

WHAT IS THE KAIZEN CENTER?

THE KAIZEN CENTER FOR STRATEGIC AND INTEGRATIVE ARTS is a
`virtual/mobile center' operating in Southern California (from
its San Diego, USA headquarters) as well as in northern Baja California
(from its Tijuana, Mexico location). A revolutionary concept dedicated
to the integral development of the overall human being, THE KAIZEN
CENTER offers customized training and development for individuals,
couples, children, families, or executive groups in a variety of mental
(psychological, philosophical), physical (martial, personal-protection),
and integrated (e.g., MAMBA-Ryu) programs. Our private and semi-private
training programs, as well as seminar/workshops can take place at the
client's site, at different outdoor locations (beaches, parks,
mountains, etc.) throughout southern California and northern Baja, or
any place in the world. Our programs can be roughly divided into
