Boy does that sound familiar, especially the Chief and being Native part.
For me the worst was the show ran the same night as Track practice and if you
didn't go then you were off the team.

Garrisons Gorillas was my favorite show and I absolutely adored Chief. I carried
a pocket knife, wished I was Native American and abandon my playmates every
Tuesday evening to watch a war show. All very strange for a 10 year old little
girl! Anyway, hi everyone, I wish I would of found this sight much sooner!
