Here are a couple of Norwegian articles about
Alicia and Braceface. If anyone can translate these
articles that would be
great!<br><br><a href=http://www.ba.no/49/42/00/0.html
target=new>http://www.ba.no/49/42/00/0.html</a><br><br>Bergensavisen/puls
01.11.01<br><br>Norske Fox Kids byr på
pubertetsproblemer<br>HÅVARD ELLINGSEN,ORIGO<br>Barnekanalen Fox Kids håper
pubertetstegneserien "Braceface" vil lokke norske tenåringsjenter til
TV-skjermene i helgene.
pubertetsproblemer, blant annet mensen.
<br><br>SVÆRT POPULÆR<br>I februar trakk "Braceface" flere
seere i aldersgruppen 9-14 år enn noen annen serie i
jentene, sier markedsdirektør Unni Amundsen i Fox Kids i
en pressemelding. <br><br>"Braceface" dukker opp på
skrjermene til norske Fox Kids-abonnenter lørdager og
søndager kl.
14.00.<br><br>------------------------------------------------------------------\

01.11.01<br><br>Alicia Silverstone bak ny
serien «Braceface». Tegneserien har allerede hatt
suksess i USA.
fjernsynskanalen Fox Kids. <br><br>Målgruppen er jenter i alderen
9 til 14 år. <br><br>13 år gamle Sharon Spitz er
tegneseriens motebevisste stjerne.
tannregulering.

silverstone (Braceface) <br><br>Alicia got
involved with this cartoon a couple of years ago. She was
approached by an animation company, and they asked her if
she would like to produce this cartoon. Then there
were meetings and phone calls and eventually the
project became a reality.<br><br>Alicia said, "I'm so
proud, how it's turned out. I've worked on it really
hard and I am just so proud of it. Its like a dream,
its all just come together so well. It's a comedy, so
everything is really funny and very light and romantic and
fun. Its just very modern". <br><br>You will catch
Alicia on the big screen very soon. She recently starred
in a film with Martin Clunes. She doesn't know when
it is coming out but we will let you know.

<br>-----<br><br><a href=http://www.shiverydelight.org/004/thinks/03.html
target=new>http://www.shiverydelight.org/004/thinks/03.html</a><br><br>THINKS -
03 <br><br>So Alicia Silverstone has
masterminded a new cartoon series called "Braceface." Never
minding the fact that I used to abhor Miss Silverstone, I
find the idea of this series quite appalling and
insensitive. <br><br>The heroine of the series is a cute,
perky little blond girl who - HORROR OF ALL HORRORS -
gets braces and decided she has absolutely no
self-esteem. The idea is that this series will project toward
insecure preteens everywhere and let them feel represented
by this bracefaced spokesgirl. <br><br>Oh, please.
<br><br>As if (hehe...not to be all ironic or anything...)
the only thing that adolescent girls have to worry
about while growing up is having braces. There is
absolutely nothing else wrong with this girl's
appearance...she's white, pretty, skinny, and, of course, blond.
What about girls who look in the mirror and don't see
an ounce of beauty in them? What about girls who
have different colored skin than their caucasian
counterparts? What about girls who are a little (or a lot)
heavier than the other girls in her class? Although they
shouldn't be, these are some very real reasons for young
girls to have inferior feelings and crippling
insecurities. <br><br>For the creators of this show to feel
that an otherwise beautiful girl who has the crappy
luck to need braces will effectively reach out to
preteens who are uncomfortable with their still-developing
bodies and possibly unfulfilling appearances is hugely
offensive, shows absolutely no compassion and/or actual
thought, and is a hearty slap in the face to anyone who
actually did grow up feeling ugly and inferior.

'Braceface' is mentioned in this article on tween

Special Report<br><br>There's a new tween hero in toon
town<br>Girls make the leap to top spot on production
slates<br><br>[snip]<br><br>While girl-friendly nets are helping to fuel the
girl
toon trend, a pitch-perfect understanding of teens is
critical to maintaining the wannabe-teen demo. "The real
challenge for me is to be competitive with the other things
that nine- to 14-year-old girls are watching," says
Joel Andryc, executive VP of programming and
development at Fox Family Channel and Fox Kids Network.
"They're watching MTV and shows like Jackass and Real
World. One of the favorite shows of [this demo] is
Friends. We could never cover much of the subject matter
those types of shows do." <br><br>Instead, Andryc has
turned to celebrity voices and bolder themes to lure an
older audience to shows like Braceface, an animated
co-pro targeting eight- to 14-year-olds from Canada's
Nelvana and Hong Kong-based Jade Animation. One episode
of the Alicia Silverstone-voiced program features
13-year-old lead character Sharon Spitz getting her period
and, in another episode, inadvertently getting drunk.
The mature subject matter appears to be working--the
series' June 2001 premiere on Fox Family brought in a 6.2
rating with girls six to 11, and a 5.3 rating with girls
nine to 14. <br><br>Andryc hopes to repeat Braceface's
success with an animated version of Buffy the Vampire
Slayer for Fox Kids and Totally Spies for Fox Family.
Both target the eight to 14 crowd, with a skew toward
girls. <br><br>[snip]

You can see a streaming video of Alicia being
interviewed on the British TV program "GM TV" from August
2001. It's about 5 minutes long, but the sound quality
isn't so great, at least not for me. Maybe with a high
speed connection it's better.<br><br>click here to see

That's strange. I tried the link and it does work. You have to search the TV
listings on the TVguide site and not just the site and than it has to work.
