The Browning Version was Ben's first movie, when he was 14
years old. Ben plays the part of a student called Taplow at a
private school in which a teacher of classic literature (Albert
Finney) is being 'retired' (he gets the push) in favour of a teacher
of more more modern stuff. Underlying all this, his wife is
commiting adultery with one of the other teachers, so his life
looks like it's going down the toilet fast.
Given it's Ben's first performance, he does a fine job, however I
think the film maker (Mike Figgis) kind of missed the point of the
original Terrance Rattigan play that it's based on.
If you can rent it a your local Blockbuster, it's definately worth a
look.
