On a recent trip to the UK last October I took the opertunity of
Visiting Basingstoke. A Bit late I know, but nevertheless still very
interesting. I found LINKS photo in this HUGE Shopping centre. However
its moved two doors down, little wonder I couldn!t figure out how
Steven road his bike in there. The Memorial park where the cottage is
huge also. It!s been painted up all white. The Bench isn!t there of
course,that was a prop, but there is one nearby.by the bush,which I
recognised from the film. Foyle park, where steven lived is NOT just
round the corner, its a good 15 minutes walk, I got lost finding it.
However its quite a trip when you get there. Its the ONLY street in
Basingstoke which looks so North American, no wonder they chose it.
Top of the town, the market SQ., I found the tree and the bench around
it,where Steven and Linda sat.. don!t try to shock me I!m
unshockable....I caused quite a stir there with the local young crowd
who wanted to know WHY I was taking a picture of a Bench in Basingstoke.
They had no Idea there was a film made there and seen around the
world.Luckily I had taken a file with me and was able to show one
inquisitive Boy the proof of what I was trying to tell them. He showed
the way to the memorial Park. I found St Mary!s Court no
problem,Where Linda drove backwards over the Curb, but the problem was
finding the underpass where Steven rode his bike through at the
beginning of the film. There are Three. So I took pictures of all of
them and figered out the correct one when I got back here. You need a
Car to get to all the Sites,Basingstoke is built for the Car. I only
had my feet. Between the park and Foyle there is an underpass which I
thik Steven and John ran through on their way to woods, correct me if I
am wrong...Getting to Basisinstoke is easy from London there continouse
trains...if you want any more info on that ,write me at Waiteroyboy
@AOL.com.........Cheers
