Dear Members of the battleroyalefilm Yahoo! Group:
Please check out the forums at the battleroyalefilm website and join
in the discussions there! The message board format allows for more
focused, ongoing, topic-specific discussion about all things BR (yes,
including the recently announced remake), not to mention you'll be
joining over 1500 registered fellow BR fans at the most active
gathering of BR fans on the net.
This Yahoo Group has served us well since its inception as a Yahoo
Club way back in 2001, and has changed hands a couple of times. But
as the internet fandom has grown, and the BR universe available to
English speakers has expanded from just the movie to the novel, the
sequel, the manga, and now the remake, the "mailing list" format of
discussion is just too constrained to maintain--the same questions are
brought up over and over again, only a couple of threads of discussion
can happen at one time, and the sheer volume of spam that moderators
have to wade through (Yahoo's filters suck) just to pick out the valid
posts is just too much to deal with.
I think that it's time for the mailing list to shift its purpose away
from being a discussion medium to something else, like a way to simply
disseminate important BR-related news (like the recent remake
announcement). This is something that I had put forward about a year
ago, and while the activity of the group hasn't dwindled that much in
recent months, this was as good a time as any to finally put it into
effect.
So to continue getting your BR discussion fix, I encourage you all to
please join the battleroyalefilm forums at the following URL:
http://www.battleroyaleforum.com
or alternatively,
http://p200.ezboard.com/bbattleroyale31415
If the battleroyalefilm forums aren't to your liking, there's also
ongoing discussion at the IMDB boards for BR:
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0266308/board/threads/
and the Livejournal Community for BR:
This mailing list will continue as a repository for BR-related files,
and selected submissions will, at the mods' discretion, be posted to
the group along with news from battleroyalefilm. Thank you for being
a part of this stage of the life of this community, and I hope we'll
see you at the next stage--joining our fellow BR fanatics at the
battleroyalefilm forums.
Sincerely,
MikeJonas

I suppose the book is available at some comic book shops, especially
at Greenhills, or probably on sale at Fully Booked Rockwell. Others
opt to buy it online at Amazon. As it's a title not well known at
typical bookstores, expect the novel to have pricetags higher than usual.
OBTW, I'm another Filipino BR afficionado. Nice to meet you! :)
im only a newbie 4 this BR...either manga,movie or book...so if there

Thanks for the scather. ;) Obviously I didnt really express myself. (Yes,
haha, a longer explanation!)
First, yes - the manga is definitely closer to the book. Second, yes, you're
right again - it does expand on the stories more. Firstly, it has the time
to do so. The longer a graphic novel series is, the better, but a movie over
2 1/2 hours will get reeeaaally boring, no matter how tense it is.
Second, often I DONT LIKE these character expanding. First of all, a lot of
the stuff between Mimura and his uncle is ridiculous. And Nanahara s the
weakest character I have ever seen. All of them suddenly seem to be
remembering the times their friends said the most ridiculously cheesy things
and suddenly be inspired to come back to life. I like the movie because it
portrays the real panic that people would face in that situation. They
wouldnt all of a sudden start swearing like mad hens while crying and
remembering how their best friend once did something stupid during a game of
basketball.
And about the artwork... I hate it The guy draws hair as weird scraggly
lines or big wavy bushes. He draws the teacher with enough lines on his face
to look like a volcanic island, and his proportions are frequently out of
wack. Plus, the way he draws gore and violence is completely unrealistic and
ridiculous.
Thats my rant!
Gotcha back, haha. ;)

I personally enjoyed the movie, the manga and the book. I have to disagree on
the character look-a-like. T. Ando played up to his part and he does have that
thuggish "hey I'm older, I've done this, now listen to me" look Kawada has. I am
disappointed in the difference between the movie Kiriyama look and the
book/manga look. In looks, they can't be any further apart on the look-a-like
scale then they are now.

is, much more and it expands on the stories! the artwork is very realistic and
the way the characters are drawn is how they are described in the book, with a
few exceptions they all act like they are supposed to, better than the way
the actors in the movie did. also, you prolly cant find it cuz many bookstores
took them off their shelves due to complaints. ive asked them, i can only get

I have to admit, I've watched both American crap and Japanese crap, along with

To get the soundtrack just order it amazon.com, they will ship it to you no

windowsmedia.com or radioblogclub.com and download. Hope you get it. Bye!

P.S I'll put this in Spanish, in case it's easier.

Don't listen to that person, the manga is closer to the book than the movie
is, much more and it expands on the stories! the artwork is very realistic and
the way the characters are drawn is how they are described in the book, with a
few exceptions they all act like they are supposed to, better than the way
the actors in the movie did. also, you prolly cant find it cuz many bookstores
took them off their shelves due to complaints. ive asked them, i can only get
it at waldenbooks and a comic store and thats it. sad isnt it?

I've since written 4 fics featuring these two (but I won't write a
5th). They're all on the BR fandom board by pockyisgod. Please check

I tend not to like non-canon shippings, particularly from something like BR,
so for me a Mitsuko-Kazuo is out, but I'd enjoy fanfics on some of the more
obvious relationships, heheh...

hi,i“m from argentina and i have a question:where can i find the
movie“s music for download??i love the music of "battle royale" and i
want it now...thanks
I agree except for one thing: the soundtrack. Heheh, I'm nuts for the BR
soundtrack. And I actually think the movie would be a success as a dub, like
many of the old jackie chan and chinese martial arts movies.

Actually I read the book but haven't seen the movie yet. Wanted to
read it first. I just went to Borders web page and had a copy sent
to a local one and went and picked it up. $15.99 . Now I have to
see the movie

I would not recommend reading it, particularly if you watched the movie. Not
only do they look different, they act different. I don't like the
Giffen-ized stuff and a lot of stuff that he didn't screw up didn't feel
right, either - I also do not like the way the artist draws gore, and a lot
of other things too, actually.

Actually, I run into manga places a lot, but have never seen BR for sale. I
don't know why, but...

I shall. I can't guarantee the goodness factor, but I shall try my
best. Oh Mimura rocks! I'd say he's my second favourite boy other

Why thank you, it's great to be here!
Heh heh..thanks. I use to type like the so-called 'others' a while
back but then got irritated by it. So yea...see ya 'round.

Ha ha. Thanks. I can't wait to finally get the book and read it, but
I'm not sure when that is going to happen. My friend has the manga,
and as shallow as this may sound I'm not sure if I want to get it or
not regardless of the different story lines due to the fact that the
characters look so different from the movie version.
See ya!

I loved the original BR2, though no doubt there were
many problems with it. I thought Revenge did a lot to
make the film much more enjoyable, and ironically, I
felt like the pacing of the film was better in this
version, even though it was longer. I thought
character development for many of the characters was
better, though Taku remains pretty much the same, some
of the lesser characters are improved upon.
No doubt, BR 2 Revenge is the better version.

Reposting a post I made over a year ago on IMDB (with some revisions):
Right after Battle Royale II was released in theaters, there was talk
of doing a "Special Version" of the film just as had been done with
the first BR movie. It was known that there was about twenty minutes
of footage that had been left out of the final cut, so unlike the
first movie, in which much of the new footage actually had to be shot
for the special version, there was plenty of material with which to
make an extended cut, and that was basically what was done for "Battle
Royale II: Revenge."
With the lackluster (though still profitable) box office of the
original theatrical release, Revenge took longer to hit theaters, and
eventually got screened in a theater only once, in Tokyo, in the
summer of 2004. A DVD release was supposed to happen in September
2004, but got delayed in part due to a controversy that arose when a
12-year old girl who slit the throat of her classmate was revealed to
be an obsessive BR fan (The "Sasebo Slasher," aka "Nevada-Tan" incident).
Revenge finally got its DVD release in Japan in February 2005 (Region
2 NTSC, no subtitles).
It doesn't redeem the major flaws of the movie--the enemy soldiers in
the final assault still get taken down like the sitting ducks they are
and take coffee breaks each time a major protagonist is wounded
mortally, and we still don't know why the heck Nanahara felt justified
in killing thousands of innocents in the Tokyo bombings. But I've
always felt that what made BRII worthwhile wasn't the big things--not
the terrorism or the war--but the little things; Not loud, angry
Takuma Aoi and his tantrums, but Masami Shibaki, the guy in the
background whose small onscreen actions best embody the movie's theme
of "comrades" (the more accurate connotation of what the subs
translate as "friends" and "teammates").
Revenge puts in (or rather, puts back) a truckload of those "little
things," some of which we got through the tie-in material (the books
and official website) but was missing from the final cut--prissy Kyoko
Kakei's disdain of her geeky partner Osamu Kasai (she demands to
change partners); Kurosawa's gang (the "Schwartz Katze") and their
thirst for vengeance; Reina Niimi's anime voice; one decent
conversation between Haruya and Saki Sakurai. There's a little bit
more of everything--more Makimura the noble first victim, more Fukuda
the ganguro, more Sonny Chiba as Makio Mimura. There are even some
fleeting flashbacks of the students from the first movie, and the nice
intertitles over black and the big class picture over the end credits,
which tie it a little closer to its vastly superior predecessor.
The film also contains some little "tweaks" akin to the Special
Version of BR that make things just a little bit better--we *see* the
incoming mortar that annihilates one of the students' boats, whereas
in the original cut, we only heard something whizzing in before the
boat exploded. We get a couple of rugby scenes interspersed in the
film the way the basketball scenes were put in the Special Version of
BR. The CGI and the soundtrack have also been given a once-over--more
sparking ricochets and inexplicably bright streaking bullets, more
musical score courtesy of the first movie's soundtrack. And, last but
not least, more of the very cute Haruka Suenaga (Sentai fans will
recognize her as the current Pink Ranger in Boukenger) as Haruka Kuze,
with an extended declaration of love/death scene that almost puts
Chiaki Kuriyama's rendition to shame. It would take a very long time
to list all the differences between the original version and the new
version; in the Japanese release, there's an optional graphic sub
track that flashes an image of Riki in the corner to indicate that
something in a particular scene has been changed or added.
All these new additions do make the film feel a little overstuffed,
and not all of it works (more annoying slo-mo strobes in the early
battle scenes, some extra reaction shots squeezed in that go by too
quickly), but overall, this is a better film than its original cut.
A subbed, R0 PAL DVD has been a long time coming from Tartan Video in
the UK, but the release, which was initially scheduled for September
2005, has been postponed repeatedly; the latest due date is May 22.
The Tartan DVD will be available in two editions--a collector's
edition with a metal tin container and film cel clipped from a print
of the film, and a normal edition without those bonuses; those of you
familiar with Tartan's releases of BR: Special Version have an idea of
what those will be like. Both releases will have two discs, the
second disc being full of subbed extras.
