What's the real differences between BRDC2 and the Requiem version?

If you mean Kinji Fukasaku as the "real director," no, sadly, he died
after shooting only one scene (the one in the beginning with Kitano's
daughter in her empty room). The rest of both versions of the rest of
the movie were directed by his son Kenta. Interestingly enough, while
the original version is "A Kinji Fukasaku Film" according to the
opening credits, the Special Version ("Revenge") is "a Fukasaku-Gumi
Film," crediting the entire team who worked with both Fukasakus.

There is no legitimate English-subbed release of the Special Version
yet (again, like with the first movie, I refrain from calling the
longer version a "Director's Cut," as the same director did the
cutting of both films, relatively untethered by the film company, and
it isn't referred to as such in Japan). But the bootlegs out there
that are subbed by Cannibal King are pretty well-done.

But, yeah, "Revenge" was much better than "Requiem." Not that it
fixes the glaring problems of the older version, but it at least puts
in more of what was good--the relatively quiet, character moments. If
someone has seen neither, I'd recommend skipping "Requiem" entirely
and watching "Revenge" instead--unlike the first movie, where one can
argue for either version being better, this time the newer version is
clearly better.

I have been searching forever and I finally got a copy of BRII DC. I
am not sure how many of ya'll have seen this but it freaking rocks so
much better then the origional BRII release. The main question I have
is does anyone know if the BRII DC is the real director or his son?

My only complaint is that I could only find the VCD and I want to get
a high quality version with "real" subs on it. I am not the most
picky on sub translations but I want good ones so it really gets me
when the sub person/group does not sub important background/printed
text. In the DC VCD I got it did not translate the text printed in
the ammo boxes along with some people talking in small or background
moments. Not to mention after the credits was not translated. The
rest was done well but I think if ya do it you should at least do
them right, they are important translations.

The thing that really surprised me was that they changed so much in
the BR2 DC it feels like a totally different movie. I think the BR 1
DC just added to sceens where in BR 2 they changed and added new ones
to change the entire movie. I like both but personally like the DC
version much better. I just wanna find a high quality version of it
with better subs. It really does feel like 2 different movies not
versions. Check it out!

Thank you, I appreciate the reply. Now I know not to buy anything else form
Vengeance. Most of that I didn't know, and the only reason I had wanted to order
it was because I had just finished the book. Anyways, thanks. ^_^ v

themikejonas <no_reply@yahoogroups.com> wrote: Looking at the items he has for
sale, I'd have to say that yes,
unfortunately, VengeanceDVD deals in bootlegs.

A couple of things to note:
- the only legitimate English subbed "combo pack" of BR and BRII
together is the Korean release by Wision (I realize that a two-pack
isn't necessarily what you bought, so consider this a tip to everyone
out there). It's a nice dark blue box with silver print on it.
- there is no legitimate English subbed release of Battle Royale II:
Revenge (the extended version of BRII) as yet, and the one that's
slated to come out soon will be in PAL video (and not NTSC, which is
what we use in the U.S.).
- the Starmax release of BR is "out of print." Genuine unopened
copies of it (the inner case has a "distressed" greenish-brown cover,
with a tan outer sleeve--if there's none, that's an immediate red
flag) should be rare and no less than the original price of about $25.

You can always look at pirated copies sold in shops that sell anime. If you
happen to live in Los Banos, you can get a copy from the xplay anime shop in
grove. If you're a UPLB student, you can get it from the org SOMA Soshiki.

Most films are made for money. That's the purpose of the majority of movies
produced, sometimes excluding independant movies. Battle Royale was the
same, the purpose was to make money, to capitalize on the success of the
book and the available volumes of the manga at that time.

Thanks for that message, jonas. I think a lot of people undervalue American
cinema, when al they're really pointing to is specific movies. A movie is
only as good as those who work on it, meaning that American cinema can NOT
be inferior to any other type of cinema, Japanese, Indian, etc. And the same
goes for all those other types. None can be inferior, because the movies
that they encompass aren't necessarily the movies that they endorse or
represent.

So saying that Japanese cinema is superior is impossible, althouh I will
definitely vouch for the superiority of *cough*a certain movie* as compared
to many other films I've seen, japanese, American, and otherwise. ;D

I agree with you 100%. Most of movies that Hollywood spits out today to make
money don't hold a candle to BR and I personally wish we had movies like it in
this country and that people wouldn't get all upset about its content. I would
love to go to a movie theater and see in big letters "Battle Royale". It would
be worth a four doller coke to sit through this movie five times.

I was just wondering if this movie influenced anybody else in thier

Welcome to the cult. :) The book shouldn't be hard to find, I got mine off
amazon.com for around $15, and, as you know, the manga is available almost
everywhere that sells manga.

See you around!

Yes, the vast majority of the stuff on eBay are bootlegs. If you want the
real deal (which you should), go to
YesAsia<http://us.yesasia.com/assocred.asp?6VKTG3CC+http://us.yesasia.com/>and
search there. It's probably more expensive, but guaranteed to be the
real thing. And plus, if you decide to buy and use this link (
http://us.yesasia.com/assocred.asp?6VKTG3CC+http://us.yesasia.com/), I'll
get some commission off it. ^^;;

I have bought the Korean Starmax version of BR, and the special release that
Mike Jonas mentioned(BR, BRII and an additional special disc). Here are
pics of what the discs look like (unfortunately, I don't have the boxes
since I'm away at college and left them at home to save space):
http://img81.imageshack.us/my.php?image=brs7bc.jpg
(sorry bout the quality, my webcam is kinda junk)

Hope these answered your questions. :)

Shonen

ps. I also know for sure that the eBay seller gothamcityentertainment sells
bootlegs, I unfortunately was in the same situation as you and bought it
unaware. Refer to http://battleroyalefilm.net/video/db3.html, the one I
recieved was the last item on the list. My actual Starmax copy does indeed
have a peach-colored slip over the case.

Hey, post it up when you're done.I'm abstaining from fanfiction until I finish
the manga (only 3 more to go!) but I'm definately becoming a big Mitsu X Kazuo
shipper. And Mimura.
   Cheers!

Right-o! I completely agree with themikejonas.. If you compare Battle Royale
with a four-star American cult classic, you'd give it a run for it's money. We
have pretty sick stuff too.. Saw? The Exorcist? Of course, these don't deal with
kids, which is probably the best part of Battle Royale.
Influence? Well going to school and wondering if I could kill my best friends
and vis versa is, I think, a reaction that most viewers have. It's kind of
unnerving..

Again on the American movie thing - I actually hold the sentiment that Battle
Royale would be very successful and moving in American cinema. I know that most
American adaptions suck, but if the right people got onto the project, it could
turn out really awesome.
And we could give it a better soundtrack.

Moreover, if you take a closer look at Japanese cinema, you'll also
find a good-sized representation of bad films; it's just that it's
mostly the good films that tend to get worldwide notice, giving the
impression that Japanese cinema is more consistently superior when in
fact, it makes plenty of crap, too.

I can say that the films you mentioned werent made for quality but quantity
as in MONEY whether you like it or not those films made money and being an
apsiring filmmaker you shouldve known that, also, i didnt think that ALL of the
actors in BR were great, some were quite mediocre. if you truly wanted a life
changing experience read the book, or really read more books.

Looking at the items he has for sale, I'd have to say that yes,
unfortunately, VengeanceDVD deals in bootlegs.

Hiya, I am new to this group and I just thought that I would
introducce myself.

Well I first came into contact with the Battle Royale movie the
Christmas of '05 when I was at my cousins house and I thought it
looked interesting so I asked if I could borrow it, he said yes. He
still hasn't gotten it back yet though. :P.

I watched it, and was morbidly fascinated with the plot and the
characters. I have to say though, that I was most intrigued by
Kiriyama. I have yet to read the novel or the manga, but I plan on
doing both very shortly.

That's about it.

hi guys! i'm norlee, a new member of this group from the

philippines. i am a big fan of chiaki kuriyama [takako chigusa

#13]. Before, i wanted to watch BR because chiaki is there. But

when i already watched the movie, it became my most favorite

movie. i can't help but to look for BRII in all video shops here

in my country. But unfortunately up to this day i still can't find

one. It is really hard to get a Japanese movie here :(

Wait... one more thing... does anybody from the group have

downloaded the 'behind the scene' footages of Battle Royale? Me, I

tried so hard to download those files before from a site, but I

just could not get it. So if anybody got a copy of it... can you

send me those? Pleeeeease!!! Or else, if you know a website where

i could still download those files, can you give me its URL?

pleeeeeeease!!!

I've read the book in 2004, after I watched the movie, I bought it
last year to make comparisons and contrasts of the book and the movie,
I would like to get the manga though I only read Volume 7.

hi...
i've read the fic "till death do us part" its great...when i watch the movie i
thought they would be together too...their personality are kind of

TTheir titles are "Till Death Do Us Part" and "18 With A Bullet".
They're both NC-17 for violence and sexual content. But, I've tried
to get an element of everything in there: action, humor, drama,
suspense, angst. So, even if you are not particularly enthused of
the characters, if you just like reading fanfic, I hope you might
enjoy these!
