Scarlett Johansson is very sexy! She has a better body then Jane
did, at least to me. And she DOES have the sex appeal. The 'energy'
I think she could pull off as well.

I'm taken back that an undergraduate arts course would require in a
paper, that someone should want to concern themselves with details as
small in significance, as those you have asked for information about.
Generally, information of the sort I believe you are looking for can be
looked up in cinema reference books that can be found in many
bookstores these days.
Writing a paper on Barbarella is not an easy option maybe, and striving
for a higher level than can be found in a cinema reference book,
certainly trying for something more than a display of factual recall,
seems worth wanting for.

i can tell you that when i was a teenager, barbarela was a stoner favorite with
me. also, there are some things that you can catch when you're on acid that you
can't catch normally. one the things images that appear on the screen in the
background screen when barbarella is in her ship is what appears to be a picture
of the arc de triumph.
other than that i dunno, sorry. i also do know that the band Duran Duran named
themselves after the man that barbarella is seeking out and that they even wrote
a song called electric barbarella.
you might be able to find more information from the internet movie database.
here is the link, it will probably help you somewhat.

I've heard that the current DVD is a little more racey then the VHS
version that was out a few years ago. Does anyone know if this is
true? Has anyone compared?
I have created a website tribute to Barbarella.
http://urlcut.com/barbarella
It's basically some edited pictures as a slideshow...
Lots of links to scifi sites you may like to visit as well. It comes
under the theme of a tutorial for what Paint Shop Pro can do to
manipulate images regardless of whoever owns the original
copyrights. These are like spoofs or fakes. Paint Shop Pro can mirror
or flip or crop or add fancy borders. It can resize or rotate as well
as edit colours or enhance or blur images or selected areas. It can
also zoom in to allow pixel by pixel editing. With it comes Animation
Shop so I give examples of text additions as a scrolling marquee
effect as well as rotating colours...
When you mirror an image, you can enlarge the canvas width and height
to permit you to paste in the copied image. You can often see unusual
images between these two images and therefore increase the effect
accordingly.
The website links to other superheroes and ones I've designed myself
using an online heromachine editor as well as the free software!
Regards, Denis

Universal appeal of Jennifer
By Sharri Markson
December 12, 2004
AUSTRALIA'S Miss Universe has launched herself into another galaxy in
a raunchy new photo shoot based on 1960s space-age sex comedy
Barbarella.
Dressed to kill in silver bikini and knee-high boots, the former
Newcastle cheerleader shows she has what it takes to replace Jane
Fonda in the title role if there is a movie remake.
Fonda set millions of male hearts racing in the original in her
skimpy, futuristic costumes which left little to the imagination.
Hawkins, who did the shoot for WHO magazine, is preparing to return
home to Newcastle for Christmas and her 21st birthday after a hectic
first six months as the reigning Miss Universe.
She is excited about having a casual family barbecue on Christmas Day
with her family and boyfriend, Jake Wall.
"She will be in her swimmers at the beach, enjoying summer and warm
weather," Mr Wall said.
"Jen is missing Australia and can't wait to come home and spend
Christmas here. She turns 21 on December 22 so, hopefully, we'll be
able to throw her a party.
"She has had a really busy year travelling - she has just been to
India, and the next six months are just as full on."
Hawkins' reign as Miss Universe comes to an end midway through 2005
when she will hand over the crown to her successor.
She then hopes to continue her role as a television presenter with
the Seven Network rather than return to her former life.
"Everything is totally different in my life," Hawkins told the
magazine.

OK, go ahead make my millenium. Send your dominatrix canditates. I
would prefer real actresses.
Why be happy with Sogo, when you can ammuse yourself with the
universe? No more pathetic leathermen, ruthless starwarriors that
can intimidate Darth Vadar is what the Queen needs.
Ruling the Universe offers more minions to amuse the Black Queen.
The psychiatric team that monitors the Black Queen mental health
said "Megalomania is good for you, playing with the Universe will
amuse you.
I do not care what the Sogo subjects want. I care about what I want.
It is their duty to give me what I want. I want the Barbie and her
flying moth fried. I want an improved Mathmos. I want...I want... I
want it all and I want it now!!!
May your happy dreams be populated by bio-replicants dolls dressed
in black.
Black Queen
Happy to make you miserable

Some reviewers clearly do not get it, some do. For instance, the
part
about Anita Pallenberg's reactions to playing the Black Queen was
highly fascinating. My appreciation for her suddenly soared to new
heights.
Somehow, I knew it had to be like that all along. There is so much
presence in the role it's evident Anita pallenberg wasn't just
playing
the Black Queen. She is the Black Queen playing Anita Pallenberg in
ordinary life!
Which makes me thinking, maybe in a new film, the part of the Great
Tyrant should not be played by a real actress at all, but by someone
who would closely identify with the role, more or less playing
herself. What if we could find a highly talented professional
dominatrix to do the part? What's your opinion? I mean, in the end
it
doesn't have to be "big" film project at all (other than in terms of
lavishness and big funds of course), it could be
quite 'underground',
if you don't overinterpret my meaning (i.e, I don't mean shabby,
depressing, post-war Berlin, artsy stuff). In fact, given the means,
we could do it ourselves!
Then, Venezia, although fun, I'm forced to contest the last message
from Her Highness, but it's just my opinion of course. You sure that
wasn't the Concierge speaking? The way I see it, the Queen isn't
about
warfare and ruling the galaxy at all. Just look at the pathetic
attempt by the leathermen to scramble and intercept Barbarella and
Pygar! No, military imperialism is typically earthling behaviour.
(Not

The sole purpose of all her power, derived from the Mathmos, is to
serve her amusement and for playing with her minions. To me, she is
the great dark mother goddess of all. And I'm happy to be her

Black Queen reply to drvortox
Campy? Campy?! Campy my foot!!!
My catch phrases ar holy words. Compulsory saying for al Sogo
citizens.
Ah one more thing! When the Sogo citizens answer the phone they must
say "Barbarella must die!" or "Death to Barbarella" or other
suitable charming wishes of ill will.
With spite, venom and hate for everybody
Your beloved Black Queen

Not really, just as long as they're talented, the Black Queen has dark
hair and speaks with a deep voiced recieved articulation.
In fact, I think it's better not to use any established actresses at
all. After all, this is not a movie that the Hollywood establishment
could handle. It's way too off the mainstream.
You'd also need a director who's both educated and amoral in a very
specific sense. Much like Vadim was.

I'll only say this. Don't make it a sequel but a remake. Let it take
place in Sogo and let the wicked Queen win.

Let me know if you get a lot of hate mail.
I thought about some good catch phrases for the new black Queen
"May you dreams be full of dolls dressed in black"
"Cemeteries are full of good people, that is why I am not dead"
"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because The Black Queen and
her rough guards stand ready to do violence on their behalf."
Hi Mark,
Thanks for getting back to me with a most informative reply.
As for what I had in mind with a special realised version, it was
something along the lines that you had mentioned. Cut sequences,
film trailers and any behind the scenes docos. Something that would
be of interest would be current interviews with cast and crew
talking about the film. Another doco could be along the lines of
examination of what has become an almost underground cult (grin).
Is Jane Fonder approachable for interviews? I understand that she
had disowned the film for many years. But after seeing it (without
the filters of 70's feminist ideology) on late night TV, she saw it
for what it is. A well made, sexy but fun, SF spoof, that better
than possibly any other film captured the spirit of the 60's.
Anyway, thanks for getting back to me,
Phil

Hi Guys,

Phil,
As far as I know, the only release has been the Paramount DVD,
which
at least has the trailer and is in anamorphic widescreen. I think
this is the slightly less censored version available (the UK TV
transmission print has different animation during the opening
credits
which cover up more of Jane Fonda's zero-gravity striptease) that
was
also on the laserdisc release.
It would help if Drew Barrymore finally produced her updated
movie,
as this would perhaps inspire a special edition of the original.
There is a very good, but brief, behind-the-scenes promotional
film
that could be included, but I doubt that any of the original
deleted
scenes still exist. These were cut to make the film an R rating in
the U.S., I wonder if there was a "continental cut" in Europe?
Barbarella's love scene with the Black Queen was definitely
filmed,
and stills also exist of a prologue with Barbarella on Earth
before
Alpha 7 takes off.
The other missing scene is the entire Dildano segment that was
shot
with an Italian actor that didn't work out for some reason.
What sort of special edition were you hoping for? What would be
your
ideal?

I don't think I like any film any more than I like Barbarella. Other
films from the period of the late 1960s I like a lot also, at times
as much or almost as much as I like Barbarella. These are movies
like Planet of the Apes, 2001, Easy Rider, and Walkabout. I can
watch the just-mentioned films along with Barbarella again and again
without tiring of them. These films seem to be made by people
possessing much greater maturity in some areas than might be
possessed by many of those making films during the last few years,
the latter perhaps being better suited to rapid money-making than to
making long-lasting classic films. Or maybe it isn't a problem with
film-making, but rather a problem with film audiences becoming
younger and younger in ideals compared with those of earlier
decades. The possibility is there that maybe societal factors
(including arts production) in development since the 60s have
effectively broken the narrow back of humanity, and what we possess
in terms of art objects since this breaking has been much more basic,
newer art objects meaning to heal us in some way rather to please our
former sensibility.
In some way we should be preparing and looking forward to some future
time period of mass high-quality art production and more of an
ordinary quality to our experience of art objects.
For these reasons a remake of Barbarella may not be so
straightforward in conception, a better alternative might be to make
a good action movie with a female combat hero, with this featuring
under the Barbarella name, rather than a film that not many people
would watch that would be very similar to the 60s original.
