Sorry to disappoint you but I think most (if not all) Hollywood young
actresses today can't really play Barbarella well. This is mainly
because of their inability to understand the political and social
significance of Barbarella. Barbarella was a symbol created in last
century as a product of the gender revolution that stressed
individual freedom over sexual choices. Jane Fonda, a left-wing
activist, was obviously the best choice for the role for her
political conviction and background (graudate of Vassar College).
Unfortunately, neither Drew Barrymore nor Sarah Michelle Gellar
really shares similar experience and conviction.
