I'm not as impassioned about this issue as most
people who have posted here are. I don't have any
expletives or crude insults to dish out. I simply have a few
comments to make (because I have a moment and I can’t
resist putting in my 2 cents) then will be on my way. I
should start by announcing that, yes, I am an Angelina
Jolie fan. A very big one, but far be it from me to try
to “convert” anyone out there who chooses to hate
her. I value freedom of thought and expression too
much to raise a vulgar fuss about your opinions. But I
just had to comment on the way that you have based
your hatred upon the notion that Angelina Jolie isn’t
enough of a humanitarian for all of you. I quote from
the club’s home page: “She needs to use her fame more
positively.” Firstly, I must commend you for applying lofty
principles toward your dislike – for at least establishing
ethical grounds upon which to hate her and not just to
base it upon superficial, intolerant, bigoted, or
outright malicious reasons (i.e. her lips are too big, she
is bisexual, she has a fondness for tattoos and
knives, etc.) <br><br>Now let me ask you – just how
thought out IS this reason? Do you take into
consideration the fact that Angelina is only 26 years old and
her fame is still fairly new? Many renowned
humanitarians didn’t start their greatest works of altruism
till their later years. Also, how do you know that she
hasn’t touched any lives for the better? Have you spoken
intimately with her family and friends? How much do you
actually know about her besides the distorted snippets you
glean from unfounded word-of-mouth rumors and from the
media? <br><br>I’m not going to pretend that I know her
intimately either. I did have the opportunity to watch her
interact with her friends at an event once and my
impression was that she was a very loving, non-egotistical
person who did not in any way wallow in the limelight.
(This being the main reason I am such a fan today.)
<br><br>Now after taking a look at your reasons for hating
her, take an objective look at yourselves. You’ve all
banded together out of a common loathing. Instead of
getting together and forming a club based on admiration
and a shared appreciation for something worthy,
you’ve chosen to bond over insults and ridicule. Mass
hatred. Now that’s a real positive step for humanity.
Hmmm, what other “clubs” in history have built bonds in
the same manner? The KKK perhaps? How about the Third
Reich? (I had to include this in response to all the
crazy talk about her being a Nazi.) For a group of
people who want Angelina to “use her time more
positively”, you’ve been using yours pretty negatively --
taking a few mintues out of your schedule every once in
a while to share in some jovial insulting of a
person whom you don't know personally and who hasn't
done a thing to harm you. <br><br>And by the way,
Angelina HAS put her fame to good. After experiencing
third world conditions in Cambodia, she contacted the
United Nations to ask how she could help. Earlier this
year she traveled to Africa to work with U.N relief
agencies, dispensing food and clothing to refugees.
(Something that was not widely covered in the media) So what
have YOU done lately?
