Ok people here there are. They have released shots of Team America. The
sets are amazing and the puppets are just insane. They have some 200

Yes Ramdas hello. These puppets were originally designed by Dave Nelson
of Animated Engineering in Los Angeles. The project was taking over by
the Chiodo Brothers so they both had a hand in on it.
They are Marionettes with Animatronic heads. They are servo driven
wireless controlled by the new BT-DMX unit from Gilderfluke. There is
no other system out that can control this many servos wireless all at
the same time. They have over 630 servos in total. There are 90 heads
each with 7 servos and these heads make up some 230 different
characters. The system has a computer connected to the dmx transmitter
box that send the signals to the servo boards. Each computer is capable
of controlling 256 servos so the y have 3 systems that can be locked
via SMPTE time code if needed. The puppets have been programmed to the
script before they go to the set. They have realtime control over the
eyes to correct for the string head control but sometimes they will
program everything on the fly because it only takes 1 person to do the
head.
If you look at the pics you can see there scale, the Eiffel tower has
chess pieces and a Barbie in front of it and the belt buckles of the
Team are quarters.

It took all my strength to keep from responding to this message ..... just kidding - sorry Dru.
David, yeah Dru gets it. Just don't try out-drinking him. You're in for a battle ... : )
Actually Dru, I haven't been to your site for quite a few months. What have you guys got going on that's really new and exciting. Or what do you guys have planned.
Thanks!

I've been drinking with Dru. What happens at IAAPA stays at IAAPA.

I just joined this group and remembered that Dru was part of this gang.
My comments were mostly for him. Right Dru?
Actually I do consulting for Gilderfluke as an Applications Engineer as
well as other things. I consult with clients on mechanical design and
how to interface Gilderfluke equipment with their application. I
usually work in the mechanical effects, pyrotechnics, fire, areas of
the business. I used to be with Walt Disney Imagineering in Special
Effects Development back in the early 90's. Now I just build stuff.

Hey Scott, we are in the last stages of design and production for the
Rf-DMX unit. It's a 512 channel DMX transmitter/receiver. It came from
the development of the wireless servo board we made for the Team
America movie. By the way the trailer is out take a look.

I posted this on the other list a few days ago but am still looking
for a few more people.
I am currently in the process of writing the second generation of my
program Servo Animator. This program will be many times more
powerfull than the current version and will allow you to animate
virtually any electromechanical device. It will support hundreds of
movements simultaniously and has an animation track interface.
I am keeping an online blog of its progress at
http://www.buffingtonfx.com/SA2blog.html
If you are interested in helping to shape this program through
playing around with it while it is still being written, please let me
know and I will add you to the list of beta testers.

Hey Guys Im just learning electronics and basic Stamp 2 I have an old digital mouse and I want to make the output analog. I looked up some infor on D/A converters and had some questions.
I would have to program the stamp to disect the data from the mouse so that the x and y rotation(acceleration) were singled out and then process the movment to convert it to analog output like a pot would have, constant position vs relative. That should be possible right? I mean if you make the logic, if the mouse is moving BLANK rotation per MS than it is considered to be the max voltage (in this case 5v) and then for the rotations below that would be converted to somewhere between 0 and 5. Although I do have a question...if you were to take apart a game controler or any controler that uses a 2 pot system for x and y rotation...when the pot is at its normal state do most read 0 or is there a interpreted voltage...like 0-2.4 is up and 2.6-5 is down where 2.4-2.6 is no movememnt? My multimeter needs new cables...dont ask. So untill i replace them I cant rip anything apart and have at it. Just working on the logic of it all right now. Do you think that there will be to much of a lag if i process 4-5 data streams? Should I process that man or since there is a clock cycle just grab the first and the second and since I know what should come next in the sensor orders of the mouse just use that to make the assumption of what the mouse is doing? ANyone know of a program that I can use to grab data from my ps/2 mouse on my computer?
Sorry for double post...but forgot to change subject.

If you happen to be using a mouse with the Agilent image sensor chip then you can interface with it so that either get simulated quadrature outputs or it can directly output PS/2 mouse data. If I recall correctly, PS/2 is just 0-5V 9600 baud serial data. I don't recall the data format but Googling it will get you that. What is even cooler about these chips (in my opinion) is that you can get an image dump from them. The resolution is really tiny but it would be lightyears better than anything that I currently use on my robots.
As far as grabbing the data, you could try hacking the mouse so that the power lines are still connected to the PS/2 port and the serial line is connected to the RX pin of the serial port. Many PC serial ports these days will accept 0-5V serial data instead of the true RS232 spec. You could then use a terminal program to look at the data.

Hey everyone I'm trying to work on making a usb spy software package. I was wondering if anyone knew if it is possible to soldier into a USB data line and read in the 8 bits of data I know are coming from the usb device? If that is possible then so should be sending data correct? I'm using a computer to do this for now but plan to use a PIC control unit to do the same thing later...just dont have money to buy a programmer and the software yet :-D
>whoops. Sorry folks. I didn't check the reply to address obviously...
oh well .. since it makes the list a little more interesting ..
Yup i`m still working at the Please Touch Museum on the Enchanted Village
( http://members.aol.com/robotweb/village-en.html )
adding a few new pages to the 4 village pages in a bit here
Originally I was hired to work for 3-years because the museum was moving to
Penns Landing on the Delaware ..but that fell through and now instead they`re
moving to a HUGE building left over from the 1876 worlds fair in a few years
.... so i don`t know if i`ll get laid off in march (the 3-year mark) or if
they`ll keep me for a while longer.
>I could send that stuff to you now if you still want it.
yeaH that`d be great! ...!There see .. 50-points to !Jack! for coming through
...everybody else promised alot then never delivered?
I should have modules, air muscles, aerogel granules etc.etc. ...
at least thanks to ebaying I diD get a harmonic-drive motor .. a tiiiiny tiny
sample of electroactive-polymer etc.
(I even bought an old big-trak to demo the gearbox design.)
I`m about to set-up this years batch of village figures and buildings in a
few weeks then i`ll have time to start throwing together my own projects again.
(got about 30-40 servos to play with) ..
and to start experimenting with Elastigel again .
