Hello!
This spring break I went to Orlando and had one of the
best times of my life. I paid special attention to the
animatronics used in Disney World and elsewhere and was
most impressed with those in Tomorrowland of the Magic Kingdom.
Most amazing was the SIR anthropomorphic animatronic
robot in the "Alien Encounter" ride. This robot look
really nice (it's endoskeleton was exposed and it looked
kinda like the T2 robot). SIR was animated from the waste
up and had the most fluid and life-like motions I had ever
seen. SIR could wave his hand across the the sky while
wiggling all of this fingers. It looked truly amazing!
Has anyone else seen excellent examples of animatronics lately?
This list is brand new. If you have friends interested in
animatronics, theme parks, or show control, get them to join the
list!

Hey all!
Here's a question for mere curiosity (and maybe help things along on
this list) :)
How did you get interested in animatronics? What was it about it that
most appealed to you?

Well, me. I'm interrested in everything from the special effects area.
When I was young, I got pretty terrified when sawing "Dark Cristal".
I had to see a psychiatric because I was so scared (also because of
"The Labyrinth") (for your information, the psychiatric said my terror
became from my parents and not from the movies :-))
A couple of years later, I really wanted to see those movies and now I
think they are two of the best ever made.
So, I was interrested in the making of these movies and I learned more
anout Jim Henson and what he's done. (I felt bad when I heard he died)
I also saw that it was possible to apply for summer jobs at Henson Creature
Shop.
I even made a speech for school trying to pass this fever to all my friends
but nothing works.........well ! they don't know what they're missing :-))
Bye
PS: hope we're not continuing this ml at three :-)
See yah
Antoine
The first time I went to disneyland, I was probably about 8 years old and
they had this exhibit called Mr Lincoln.
He talked and I was hooked. The exhibit is long gone but, Disneyland is
still my favorite place. I am always
amazed .

Well, *g* to answer my own question (we have to be fair now don't
we?).... I've always been a horror buff. I mean, I've been watching
horror movies since I was 3! After I watched a good one, I would always
wonder how they got the things to work. Like, how they cut off a mans
arm in the movie but it still intact in RL. That's when I started
looking everywhere, trying to learn about special FX, and it was only a
matter of time, that the make-up FX led me to animatronics.
Watching movies!!!!!!!!

Fellow Fiends and Fiendettes:
I wish to publicly acknowledge the eight dark attractions that I was very
fortunate to act in during this past October:
1. Messrs. Butch Drozdowski, Ken Marshall and Jack Morabito of the Broadview
Heights Lions Club, producers of *Bloodview Haunted House* in Broadview Heights,
Ohio.
2. Crazy Bob Turner, Crazy Beth Turner and Crazy Dana Swesey, producers of *The
Haunted Hydro Dark Attraction Park* in Fremont, Ohio.
3. Mr. Wayne Sealy and Ms. Judy Rowley, producers of *Mystery Manor* in Omaha,
Nebraska.
4. Mr. Pete Kolomichuk, producer of *The Legendary Seven Gates of Hell* in Canal
Fulton, Ohio.
5. Mr. Joe Jensen, Ms. Audrey Downs and Ms. Ellen Duncan Nugent, producers of
*Science of Fear,* more commonly known as *Hades Haunted House,* in Chicago,
Illinois.
6. Mr. Dave Link, producer of *The Asylum Experience* in Berwyn (Chicago),
Illinois.
7. Messrs. Ben Armstrong and Billy Messina, producers of *The Netherworld
Haunted House* in Atlanta, Georgia.
8. Messrs. Mike Pattison, Ray Adams and Jason Blaszczak, producers of *Nightmare
in Painesville* in Painesville, Ohio.
At every one of these eight noteworthy attractions, I was subjected to kindness
and generosity. All of you made this, my 24th season of Haunted House acting, a
great deal of fun. I am truly grateful. May you rise from the grave again in
October of 1999.
Yours in blood,
Zargon

Dear list,
I think a good place to start, in getting this list
going is for each of the members to give their
background and interests. A list is only good if
its members make a reasonable effort to post meaningful
messages. So I'll give it a try.
I am a senior at MIT studying EE/CS. I've worked
with all kinds robotics projects over the past few years.
I've also been interested in movie special effects and
creating themed attractions. I also designed and built a
haunted house for my fraternity. If you follow the portfolio
link below, and go to "Skuffle" you will find some really cool
pictures from the haunted house.
I don't have a lot of animatronics info posted, but I would like
to say that Chris Hillman's page is a GREAT resource.
Is there anyone out there who works in the animatronics industry?
Does anyone have pictures of their "amateur" projects?
I'd like to see and I sure many people would.
