Rex B. Hamilton Invites You To The North Central Ohio Haunted House
Tour

Greetings, Fellow Haunters:

A final reminder that the North Central Ohio Haunted House Tour takes
place on Saturday (June 24) beginning at noon in Mansfield, Ohio. The
tour will last until approximately 5 PM.

We will spend the first two hours that afternoon exploring a former
state institution that now occupies a spot on the National Register
of Historic Places and in the Guinness Book of World Records. I have
been asked by the trustees of this 1896-vintage structure not to
divulge its name over the Internet. The trustees are concerned that
the general public might get wind of our free tour and decide to
crash the party. (The general public pays five dollars a head for the
normal Sunday afternoon tours.) Even though our tour is technically
free, each of us is encouraged to donate five dollars toward the
preservation and restoration of this one-of-a-kind building.

Our host in Mansfield will be Mr. Jim Messenger of Death Row

bring your camera and a powerful flashlight.

At 2 PM we will drive about 45 minutes south to the tiny community of
Bangs, Ohio. (Appropriately enough, the road that we will travel from
the Mansfield area to the Bangs area is Ohio Route 13. What a
delightful number!) Our destination in Bangs is the imposing House of
Nightmares. This four-story structure was built in 1875 as the Knox
County Home and later became the Mt. Vernon (Ohio) Bible College. We
haunters will have the next two hours to poke around this elegant old
bastion of brick.

Our host at The House of Nightmares will be Mr. Dave Treisch. His e-
mail address is treisch@.... A flashlight is probably not
necessary. Outdoor photography only, please.

At the conclusion of our tour, Mr. Treisch and his associates from
The House of Nightmares will host a small, cash barbecue. We will pay
less than five dollars each for hot sandwiches and cold soda pop
before we scatter for the drive home. Please send Mr. Treisch or
myself a quick e-mail if you plan to attend for the barbecue. We want
to make sure that we have sufficient food and beverage on hand.

For those of you driving to Mansfield this Saturday, please note that
there is a small error in the driving directions as printed in the
Digest: When you reach the intersection of US Route 30 and Ohio Route
545, you will make a LEFT-hand turn. Mr. Messenger tells me that this
intersection can be a tad confusing. To aid all of us out-of-towners,
Mr. Messenger is erecting his October directional signs on Saturday
at that intersection. He tells me that his building is so huge that
it can be seen from that intersection and that the signs are probably
not necessary.

Please join me on Saturday at noon in Mansfield for the first
installment of what I hope will become an annual event - a
summertime, haunted house tour in Ohio specifically for haunted house
professionals.
