Reba McEntire, Brian Stokes Mitchell & Alec Baldwin
Star in Rodgers & Hammerstein's
South Pacific
New Live Recording From Carnegie Hall Concert
PBS Broadcast To Air April 26, 2006
In Stores April 18th On Decca Broadway

"A concert performed in a state of nearly unconditional rapture. In a season of
dreary musical revivals, this "South Pacific" was enough to inspire, if just for
a few hours, a cockeyed optimist's belief that old warhorses can still be
transformed into spirited colts." - The New York Times

(March 27, 2006- New York, NY) Country music and TV star, Reba McEntire stars
as Nellie Forbush in this live concert version of the classic Rodgers &
Hammerstein musical, South Pacific. Recorded in June of 2005 at Carnegie Hall,
South Pacific was a "one-night" only benefit performance featuring Broadway and
Hollywood icons Brian Stokes Mitchell and Alec Baldwin. On April 26th, PBS will
air the concert in its entirety, and Decca Broadway will release its finely
mastered companion cast recording produced by multi Grammy award-winner Jay
David Saks.

The boisterous evening at Carnegie Hall was enjoyed by all and even won rave
reviews from the most distinguished theatre critics. The New York Times' Ben
Brantley raved of Reba McEntire "Ms. McEntire is a natural for
musicals.Open-voiced and open-faced, she was born to play Nellie". His praise
for Brian Stokes Mitchell was no less superior. Of his performance it was
declared that "his place in the pantheon of romantic musical leads is now
guaranteed." Alec Baldwin's comic turn as sailor Luther Billis was appreciated
by Daily Variety stating; "McEntire's funny, boisterous rendition of "Honey Bun"
was one of the concert's high points, given amusing support by Alec
BaldwinAlAAAlec Baldwin. Baldwin proved himself a great sport in the number,
donning coconut bra and grass skirt and doing a few woozy hula moves."

Rarely revived, South Pacific was penned by Rogers & Hammerstein in 1949 and was
drawn from James Michener's "Tales of the South Pacific." The musical boasts
such Broadway classics as "I'm Gonna Wash that Man Right Out of My Hair",
"Cockeyed Optimist" and the enchanting "Bali Hai". Set during World War II,
Navy Ensign Nellie Forbush (Reba McEntire) falls in love with French planter
Emile de Becque (Brian Stokes Mitchell) when they are brought together on a
south seas island amidst the Pacific stage of the war. Alec Baldwin stars as
Luther Billis, a comically enterprising enlisted man, and the cast is rounded
out by beloved Broadway favorite Lillias White, in a shimmering portrayal as the
exotic islander "Bloody Mary." Paul Gemignani conducts the 45-piece Orchestra
of St. Luke's and a roaring 51-member vocal ensemble.

Reba McEntire's name and voice are synonymous with country music, but she put
her stamp on Broadway with her critically acclaimed debut in 2001's Annie Get
Your Gun. The multiple Grammy and CMA winner successfully wowed the theatre
community and was awarded both the Drama Desk and Outer Critics awards for her
work. Dubbed "The Last Leading Man" by the New York Times, Tony Award-winner
Brian Stokes Mitchell has enjoyed a rich and varied career on Broadway,
television and film, along with appearances in the great American concert halls.
His credits include starring roles in Broadway's Kiss Me Kate and Man of La
Mancha and recurring roles on TV's Frasier and Crossing Jordan.
