Indies have come a long way, baby. Thanks to fledglingly successful
media such as digital video and the power of computer software, it's
never been easier to make a movie (if it's easy at all). Or cheaper.
With this in mind, the scarcely funded "Primer" would be the perfect
indie: multi-hyphenated filmmaker, simple locations, talky script,
and shot for a two piece wing and biscuit dinner. But this high-
minded, science-loving belle of the Sundance Film Festival ball
suffers one entertainment faute fatale: it's BORING.

Abe (Sullivan) and Aaron (Carruth) are two young engineers whoring
themselves out to corporate America by day yet working on the Great
American Geek Dream by night. Reminded that Hewlett Packard and
other revolutionary companies started off in garages, they use
theirs and odd household and automotive items to put together The
Next Big Thing – whatever that may be. When their boxy contraption
turns out to be a subtle version of a time machine, Abe and Aaron
begin to use it to their advantage, and potentially to their demise.
