Is there a licensing pro in the house? We need to secure the sync &
mechanical rights to a song for a movie and are getting the run around.
Basically one of our actors sings a song written by a famous artist; so
we need to pay for those rights, but how do we go about paying the
musician who actually played the backing track?
any ideas?
zack.

Hi Zack- I'm not sure about this, but would you go through ASCAP? I know they represent the composer, but sometimes the composer and the performing musician...

You would *not* go through ASCAP. ASCAP sells licenses that cover *all* or *most* of their artists. This way, radio stations, DJ's, or other professionals...

You may not need to pay the "backing track" musician if he was a studio musician paid to do the gig. If it's his CD then he would be due royalties. Probably...

I am new here, and I realize that I haven't even introduced myself yet, but being a singer/songwwriter, I believe I can be of assistance. The royalties will...
