Was sent a couple of books to review for possible use in the department.
Neither have much to do with Ollie but might be of interest to some.
First is an updated version of Douglas Gomery's The Hollywood Studio
Sysyem: A History. Very nice history of all the studios and related
players from the early years until recently. Nothing to do with Ollie
specifically but good information on Zukor, et.al. Very pricey if
purchased new.
The other less interesting is Charles Higham's Murder in Hollywood
about the William Desmond Taylor mystery. Might be of interest to
anyone curious about the case, but it would seem there are better books
out there on the subject including Bruce Long's William Desmond Taylor:
a Dossier. Bruce Long was also kind enough to include a very
interesting reading list that study the case in detail or mention it in
passing. Personal opinion but I just don't see the case directly
linking Higham's suspect to the murder. Still, some might enjoy it.
Again, just one man's opinion
