Thor's weight stopped the shivering and kept the gully of loneliness
at bay, still she clung to him, until she could no longer feel tears
trickling down her face. Only then did she withdraw from the rough
but warm fur to look at the face of the one who had said nothing,
merely leant her his company. Her face was tear-stained and her
eyes red from crying, but what did a dog care of her appearance.
Gently she placed a hand on his head, moving slowly down to his
collar and then to the small brass plate upon which was engraved the
name of this silent stranger.
"Thor?" she asked questioningly look at him.
Her hand continued stroking the husky, behind the ear, down the neck
and then pausing over the patch of fur she had wet with her tears.
"I'm sorry, I've got you wet."
It was a stupid thought, but she welcomed it as it put off what she
knew would come hit her eventually, she just felt so useless, they'd
smiled re-assuring, but none of them had DONE anything. She looked
out of the doors to the kennels and drew herself closer to Thor
again.
"They won't believe me Thor; they say there's nothing they can do at
the moment. They won't send anyone out to look for my parents, I
know their out there Thor, I just KNOW it. The people here told me
that I shouldn't lose hope but that I must be realistic."
She sighed and felt tears pricking at her eyes again.
"Oh Thor what's the use, they understand but don't listen and you
listen but don't understand. I just don't know what to do, I'm so
scared, something terrible is going to happen to them, what if….what
if….."
She trailed off unable to think of what would happen if they died
what would she do? Curl up in a kennel and hide? That would be
good, but this wasn't some story where the animals made it all
better. She never let go of Thor though, maybe the stories weren't
so far removed from reality
