I'm currectly kicking around a slient film with my "peoples" but it's more cause well we want to do something fast and cheap and fun and this time around the actors can suffer from stunts and falls and I don't have to sweet sound fix'n, however the music is going to be completely eletronic and done by a hip hop / house producer named Dr. Acula (yeah as in Ed Wood, the guy just makes dark and creepy music) and it will have alot of elements of horror film in it,
but probablely something more like Dr. Calagri then say Champlin or Keaton, and if you want a really tripped out slient film to watch check the film that Buster Keaton did with Samule Becket called "Movie" It's something you'd more expect from David lynch then either of those 2 men.

In a couple of weeks I should be filming my first feature film project
around the Tampa Bay area. I'm looking for a small crew, a camera,
someone familiar with lights and sound. And a makeup or special props
specialist. You can view a teaser here
http://www.mmjstandasone.com/theshort.html
As for compensation, not much going in but if the movie makes any
profit, you'll get your fair share. Email me at mmj125@... if
you have any questions about the project.

We are looking for a production designer that could work on our project, “Phobia”. This is a deferred payment position and we start filming on Jul 23rd-Aug 6th. Our actual film dates are weekend focused. If you know anyone that might have an interest in working on a psychological thriller to be filmed in Tampa, please send there resumes to me ASAP. Many thanks.

We currently have a screenplay in pre-production and in current
rewrites. I am needing several participants for a script reading before
submitting the locked script.
The reading will take place in Tampa under the supervision of the
Screenwriter/Director and will require approximately 4 hours.
This would be great experience for anyone serious about screenwriting,
filmmaking or acting.
A Confidentiality Agreement will be required.
Need two males and one female for the remaining roles.

thank you for the informative reply, and, by no means, would I EVER imply that your productions are cheap, amateurish horror flicks. Like I said, I am new to the industry, and by virtue of surfing the sites provided by local production companies, I just made a simple observation. (obviously a faux pas and I sincerely apologize !!!) I would never seek to offend anyone, believe me.
I wonder if anyone ever tried to revive the silent movies that the New Port Richey area was famous for many years ago? It was an old haunt of Charlie Chaplin and the like. I and a fellow art friend have tossed around the idea of starting a competition for indie film companies to make silent movies again. It would put a lot of focus on the musical score (involving local musicians) and the individual viewer using their own creativity to mentally write the story. Do you think anyone would be interested in trying that
genre?? You seem to know your business...I am interested in your feedback.
I will tell you that the average income in the Land O'Lakes area (where I live) (yeah yeah, no laughing...major suburbia) is $75,000 (about 23,000 over the national average) and the educational status is also above the national rankings in college degree holders. To me , that screams... I have more money than I know what to do with it, I may be a little smarter than the average bear, and I need some entertainment. We are currently surrounded by a whole lotta nothing and baseball and soccer fields. Have I painted you an interesting picture yet??
I look forward to your e-mail. I will tell you that I have a meeting tomorrow with people here in Pasco county who are spearheading an effort to erect an Arts concourse and trying to encompass all of the art mediums in one fell swoop.Hmm, sound interesting??
I don't think we all are. Although the horror genre seems to be the most popular in the area it is also internationally accepted. Having shot movies here in the states and in England I know for a fact that horror is in
wide commodity. Horror is the number one genre in the world; from Japan to Australia. Just a matter of fact.
Making an indie romantic comedy is fun yes; I've made three, but they do not sell on our level. Drama's; forget it. No one wants to watch indie film actor so and so battle it out with whoever over their whatever. So, as indie film makers we tend to lean towards the horror genre. It's fun, not so easy, and well excepted.
But, if you're interested in finding work there are several projects over the summer here in Tampa and none of them are horror. From Pete and Paul Guzzo's 1940's Mafia short to Cubicle 3's Series "Going Nowhere". I myself start shooting a crime noir style film in September. We are trying to pull ourselves out of the horror hole, but in the end we've all made horror movies, I am no exception. Rock on zombies!
For any more information check out these sites of
local film makers:
I hope some of this helps and doesn't make all of us look like cheap horror amateurs.

Hi Michele,
Thanks for e-mailing us. That's great you want to help out in future
productions. I can put you on our mailing list with anyone needs props
or accessories. What kind of props do you have?
To answer your question about the film scene only making horror films,
well, it seems most of us do. But, they are other genres that some of
the filmmakers work in. The Guzzos Brothers have made comedy or drama
and Filmmaker Fred Zara usually makes comedies. I myself have mainly
produced horror films, but my next projects our dramas. So, the
filmmakers here are making more than just horror films. If you check
out the Tampa Film Review every second Friday of the month (next one is
July 14th) at the International Bizarre in Ybor City on 8th Ave.
starting at 8pm, you'll find tons of different genres.
But to defend the horror genre, they're the ones that sell the most for
indie films rather than a comedy or drama. It's the best way to get
your foot in the door if you make a horror movie.
Thanks,
Chris

This is the actual email I send to Chris regarding the Lee Ann
Feature Film Project:
Well a couple of things about this project. It only calls for four
locations; a convenience store, a police department, a hotel, and a
boating dock.
I think you should know its based after my first short, which got
some attention from Kevin Smith site, moviesaskew.com. It didn't win
or wasn't even in main competition and i know why. The way it was
filmed, I shot it on Hi 8 and I didn't even use a microphone but hey
it still got some attention regardless. I even put together a
preview using some of the clips from the short;
http://www.mmjstandasone.com/theshort.html
Give it a few seconds to load. Anyway I know a couple of people that
are willing to act for me and I have a makeup assistant and an
assistant already.
Now about the crew, I'm not sure if I'll need a large number because
I'm not really one of these directors that is used to working with
large groups. I'm thinking a couple of assistances; someone that
knows about lighting, audio, and well the rest is up to you. I know
you have to approach a features on a whole other level then shorts.
As for the shooting schedule, most of the story takes place at
night, except for the beginning and ending, so I'm thinking a 2 to 3
weeks shooting schedule.
If you have any other questions or want to read the actual synopsis,
just let me know.

Cast and Crew needed for Horror/Thriller Short film in Tampa.
Auditions for Tampa Short film will be at the Hampton Inn in Ybor.
Anyone who is interested should contact Lawrence Dickerson at 813-
454-6363 or Monica Varner at 813-786-7480 or email
submissions@.... Dates for casting call: June 1st
from 5-10 And June 4th 11am-7pm Ages: 18-45. We are also looking
for: Production designer, Camera assistants, Gaffer, Sound tech, and
PA's just for general help.
Below is a list of the characters we are auditioning for with a
short description.
The main shoot will be on July 22nd - August 6th. There will be no
pay, but we will definitely provide a finished copy of the short to
everyone involved.
PROFESSOR CERESE KNOWLES, mid 30s-40s. Intelligent and unemotional,
with a
drive for perfection. She has faith in herself, but her confidence
can be easily shaken; she projects an image of a progressive
professor willing to push the envelope of research. This image,
however, is betrayed by a playful gleam in her eyes that suggests
that her looks are most deceiving.
PROFESSOR DORIAN GRANT, 30's-plus. Intelligent and unemotional.
She is a quiet talker dressed in a bookishly nerdy wardrobe. She
believes in Professor Knowles, but is blinded by her own infatuation
and desire for young male college students.
JACK MESSINA, early-20's. Athletically built, he dresses sloppily;
his normal attire consists of tattered blue jeans and a T-shirt.
Wanting to have fun, he went to college to get out of his house,
have sex with college girls and drink beer. He is rarely seen
without his video camera at his side.
PAUL RETTER, early-20's. Jack's "right-hand man", but he has grown
to despise Jack personally, always being in his shadow. He dresses
better than Jack.
DANNY TRANI, early-20's. He is the audio guru. He doesn't say
much, but is always nearby, listening.
JULIE BECKETT, early-20's. A nervous college freshman. She wears
surgical gloves to cover hands with clothes and a hat to cover her
body.
SARAH CRAWFORD, early-20's. The class "party girl", wearing clothes
that push the envelope into slutiness. Her ample bosom often
threatens to pop out at any moment- and she likes the attention.
THE MAN. Intelligent and unemotional professional older
businessman.
REAGAN SINCOX, early-20's. Intelligent and unemotional most of the
time. She aspires to be like Professor Grant. She is always
looking around, watching, observing. Dreams of being an FBI
profiler. She has an "all-American girl next door look" look. She
would be quite attractive if she did not play down her looks by
wearing her glasses and not wearing makeup. She is Professor
Grant's TA.
COLLEGE STUDENTS (Extras- no lines), 18-plus.
PROFESSORS (Extras- no lines), mid-30's and older.
