i got the hoped for email today (which was due
yesterday) from the folks at http://drivesavers.com/
that they believe they will be able to fully recover
our film (as well as Joe King's "Rancho No Tengo"
now, i ask for help from those who are able.
1) go to http://one.revver.com/find/video/zombiejohn
and you will see 3 trailers for our film & one short
film i'm in that john shot 3 years ago. all are worth
your time & i think you'll enjoy all of them. and if
you click on the ad at the end, we'll earn a few
pennies (not sure how much, but we had $3.75 credit a
week ago). if everyone on the texas lists looks at
all 4 & clicks for the ad (which you can ignore like
you can ignore ads on tv (unless you have a tivo or
its equivalent & can skip over them) it will help us
get a lot closer to the $3100 or so we'll need to pay
for the recovery.
those in the austin area can attend our benefit
concert at threadgill's(301 West Riverside) in 10 days
(if you're able to - many of our "star" cameo
musicians have gigs out of town & can't attend (or
play))
we originally planned to ask $10 for admission, but
the management has suggested $5. for 5 1/2 hours of
entertainment by some great musicians, it's a real
bargain. and if you are able to come and wish to
donate more than the $5, it would be very much
appreciated. there's room for at least 150 people &
we'd really love to fill up the space & make the folks
at threadgill's happy they are helping us out.
the lineup has some musicians you may not have heard
of , but that doesn't mean they aren't great. i was
at a concert a few weeks ago where the opening act, a
totally unknown (to me & most) was much better than
the well-known "headline" act. our headliner, joe
king carrasco, happens to be great as well as the
openers.
here's the lineup & the currently planned times (which
may be adjusted)
Dave's Not Here 4:00 - 4:45 p.m.
Gary Wimmer 4:45 - 5:15
Jeff Tveraas 5:15 - 5:45
Dr. Todd 5:45 - 6:15
Marilyn Rucker 6:15 - 6:45
Zeegrass 6:45 - 7:15
Shana Norton 7:15 - 7:45
The Jigglewatts 7:45 – 8:00
Douglas Greer 8:00 -8:30
The Jigglewatts 8:30 - 8:45
Joe King Carrasco 8:45 - 9:30
Zeegrass is a Czech bluegrass band, which is something
most of you have liekly not heard.
Shana Norton is the harpist from Chaski
Marilyn Rucker composed 4 of the songs from our
soundtrack & will be recording one of them.
Dave's Not Here's music is in the soundtrack
Gary Wimmer acts and crewed in the film.
Dr. Todd (as Born to Suffer) was our "house band"
recording 4 songs in the film.
Jeff Tveraas is a good friend & member of the Austin
Conspiracy
Doug Greer is a new friend (a friend of crew members)
& will donate some CDs for us to sell with 100% going
to the recovery - if you like him, he's at threadgills
a week after this gig.
Joe King is our zombie mayor
and the Jigglewatts are a dancing ensemble consisting
of our 3 zombie nuns & our wonderful choreographer
for those who tuned in late, here's more info on Z
Z was accepted for the Austin Film Festival (October
19-26), but due to the hard drive crash, is unable to
be part of the Festival this year. Great fest, sev'l
austin films will be part of it. recommended
More info on the film:
"Z: A Zombie Musical", the first zombie musical
feature film, completed principal photography in
August 2006. The film is written and directed by John
McLean and stars Hanna Hardin and Rob Faubion. Hardin
plays Faith, one of three nuns who are transformed
into zombies by a pug dog while swimming at Lake
Travis. They are taken to Zomburbia, the home of the
zombies, by Dan the Traveling Salesman (Faubion) where
they meet the honorary mayor of Zomburbia (Joe King
Carrasco). When Faith learns of a zombie priest who
can transform zombies back to humans, she heads toward
his church. On the way she meets a zombie philosopher
(Dan Eggleston). The zombie priest (McLean) locks
Faith in a dungeon, but she escapes and eludes the
pursuit. The film concludes with a love duet between
Dan and Faith, singing a song composed for and
performed by the Tosca String Quartet (who also appear
in the film). Choreographer, lead singer and ZBI
Agent #1 is Amy Jordan. The film features a wonderful
collection of original songs composed and recorded by
various Austin musicians and mixed by Ben Blank.
Gary Chason ("Everything or Nothing", "Dear Pillow"),
Dale Watson, and Kimberly Ensey (Miss Bikini USA,
2001) have cameo appearance, as do Whitney Matheson
(http://blogs.usatoday.com/popcandy/) and Peter Bay
(conductor of the Austin Symphony). Mayor Will Wynn,
along with former mayors Bruce Todd and Jeff Friedman
were filmed as zombie highway sign holders. The Tosca
String Quartet (who have toured with David Byrne
(Talking Heads) and were featured in Rick Linklater's
"Waking Life") were filmed with angel wings in a
cemetery. The quartet also recorded a song
(Zombie-Human Love) which was composed for them. Mark
Zupan (the star of the Oscar-nominated documentary
"Murderball") played a zombie warrior. Joe Ely,
Michael Fracasso, Jimmy Lafave and Sara Hickman make
up a zombie guitar quartet.
