ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL
FADE IN:
INT: MORNING - FRIDAY - Breakfast nook in surburban home.
Two wives, Jane Morgan and Frances Morgan, neighbors who are
both married to identical twin brothers sit opposite one
another talking over cups of coffee.
JANE (VEHEMENTLY)
Ralph is just not interested in
sex any more. That one time when
he took Viagra by mistake..but
after that...he hardly even looks
at the Swim Suit Edition of Sports
Illustrated. And he flatly refuses
to take Viagra.
FRANCES
You're lucky. Phil is a complete
opposite, as you know. I barely
satisfy him.
(pause)
That night he took Ralph's
sleeping pills by mistake was
heaven. The man is a dynamo. He's
back to running three miles every
morning.
Jane leans forward her face tense
JANE
I've got to know once and for all
if Ralph is even interested in
women. I've been dying to phone
one of those escort services and
ask them to send out one of their
sexiest girls..she'd have to show
up,of course, when I wasn't home.
(pause)
I need to know if it's just me who
can't turn him on.
(pause)
I've tried to talk myself into
making the phone call but I just
can't work up the nerve... and
it's driving me crazy.
2.
FRANCES
Oh, Jane I'm so sorry you're
feeling so desperate.
(pause)
If only the two brothers could
exchange their libidos ... You know,
so they'd both be reasonably sexy
but not to the extremes like they
are now.
JANE (TEARFULLY)
Oh, Frannie, I guess I'm asking
for a miracle.
(sobs)
I'm going crazy......
She quickly rises, then turns back to Frances.
JANE
I'm sorry to be crying on your
shoulder... putting all this on
you isn;t fair...I'm just feeling
so awful.....
Her voice trails off and, head lowered, she hurries from the
room. Frances, looking concerned, follows her to the door.
When Jane is gone She returns to her seat in the breakfast
nook and remains there looking thoughtful. After several
moments her face lights up.
FRANCES
(speaking her
thoughts aloud)
Oh, my god, I can believe I'm
thinking what I'm thinking.
(pause)
Jane needs a miracle so why don't
I make one happen.
She picks up the yellow pages phone book and leafs through
the names listed under the heading Escort Sercices. Camera
looks over her shoulder as she searches. AD Lib: "Here's one
that's fairly close." She opens her cell phone and dials.
FRANCES
(continuing)
Hi, my name is Jane Morgan and I'd
like one of your girls to uh, uh,
get to know my husband, Ralph.
(pause)
Well, if you must know he's no
longer interested in sex. I have
the awful feeling it's my fault.
3.
CUT TO
LINDA GORDON
My mother owns Elite Escort
Services but she isn't here right
now.
(pause)
I wonder if I could help.
FRANCES
Why not. I just want to see if
he'll show interest in another
woman.
(pause)
You sound like you're young, in
your twenties, maybe. Are you
pretty and sexy?
CUT TO
Linda laughs and a CU shows she's intrigued by Frances'
request.
LINDA (SMILING)
Men find me attractive. And, it
just happens I'm required to do a
graduate psychology paper on men
with intimacy problems.
(pause)
Before I agree, you're positive
your husband wouldn't get violent.
CUT TO
Frances laughs. AD LIB: "No way, he's a real pussy cat."
LINDA
So what's your husband's name? And
if I agree to meet him I'll need
his photo. Can you fax one to
453-6024.
FRANCES
His name is Ralph and we live at
2300 Frostbite Lane. Can you come
tomorrow, Saturday? And what time?
(pause)
What do you mean you can't
schedule a specific time.
(pause)
You'll show up sometime between
between nine and noon.
4.
FRANCES (cont'd)
(pause)
Are you telling me you follow the
same business practices as the
telephone and utility companies.
Oh, all right.
(pause)
Okay, I'11 fax you a picture of
Ralph.
She closes the phone, frowning. To herself AD LIB: "I've got
to take Jane shopping early Saturday." Oh, yes and fax one of
Phil's old pictures.
FADE OUT
EXT - THE FOLLOWING SATURDAY MORNING. IN FRONT OF RALPH
AND JANE'S HOUSE.
Linda wearing a smart outfit stands in front of the house
searching for the number. She seems to be having trouble
locating it. As she looks, a male runner in sweats trots
behind her. Phil suddenly stops and turns back.
PHIL
Hi, can I help you?
Linda turns to him with a small smile. I'm looking for this
address. She starts to hand him a sheet of paper, but after
a quick glance at the photo in her hand, her smile widens and
she moves closer.
LINDA
Hi, I'm Linda and I'd appreciate
a chance to talk to you.
Her eyes light up as she looks several times at the photo and
then at Phil's face. He backs up and a CU shows his
uncertainity.
PHIL
What are you selling?
LINDA (VEHEMENTLY)
I'm not seling anything
(pause)
Look, what I want to talk to you
about....um, urn, it's better if we
went inside. Okay?
Phil reluctantly nods and leads the way into the house. CU
shows his wary curiousity. He indicates a chair and takes
another across the room.
5.
PHIL
What is you want to talk to me
about?
LINDA
I assume your wife isn't home. She
said she'd be out shopping with
her neighbor.
Phil looks puzzled.
PHIL
That's right, but how could you
know that?
LINDA
Your wife said she'd be gone this
morning so I could talk to you in
private.
Phil looks upset
PHIL
My wife talked to you and said
she'd be gone this morning.
(pause)
What's this all about?
LINDA
There's no use beating about the
bush. It's about your sex life.
Which boils down to this. Do you
find me attractive.
Linda stands and hands on hips slowly turns so that Phil can
see her full figure. CU on Phils shows his disbelief.
PHIL
You've got to be kidding. Who
wouldn't find you a very atractive
and sexy woman.
LINDA (SMILING)
Oh, I'm so glad you do. So you do
like women, but for some reason
your wife doesn't turn you on. Is
that right?
Phil begins to laugh. He rises and walks toward Linda.
6.
PHIL
Something is wrong here. No way
would my wife, Frances, phone you
complaining that she doesn't turn
me on.
Startled, Linda jumps to her feet and faces Phil.
LINDA
Your wife's name is Frances? Oh my
god! The woman who phoned said her
name was Jane.
Phil shakes his head
PHIL
Jane is my twin brother Ralph's
wife. I'm Phil and my wife's name
is Frances.
Phil sits down and holds his head in his hands.
PHIL
(continuing)
Things must be real, real bad if
Jane needs to know if my brother
is even interested in women.
LINDA
That's what she told me she wanted
to know.
PHIL
What do you know about sexual
disfunction?
Linda takes a deep breath and starts to talk AD LIB about her
psychology classes.Phil interrupts.
PHIL
(continuing)
Okay, enough, already. So do you
want to go with me to talk to
Ralph?
(pause)
It's in his head that he isn't
satisfying her. So he completely
withdraws.
Camera follows Phil and Linda to the home of Ralph and Jane.
FADE OUT
7.
INT - MORNING THE FOLLOWING DAY
Jane looks radiant and smiles at Frances.
JANE
I don't know what's happened but
Ralph acted interested last night.
Even more than interested. I
wonder what happened to change
him?
Frances, looking very relieved, smiles at her friend.
FRANCES
Who cares what happened. The main
thing, as Shakespere said, all's
well that ends well.
THE END
