Our meeting on 10-9-09 enjoyed the first look at the video shots on 9-12-09 taken at the rural cemetary in Stockton, site of the statue of Reuel Gridley. Despite the lightening, thunder and rain the shots turned out well thanks to Erick and Bosko and the Deprato family. As noted in the previous missive to members, what is needed to complete the "Midas Sack" will be shots of Gridley with his sack of flour in front of the saloon in Austin. Jeff Thompson, are you still willing to play Gridley? If so, can you let Erick know what days and times you would be available.
We are asked to submit our favorite movies on DVDs to a group called Movies for "The Love of It". I like the following: Night on the River, A Time to Run, The Switch 1 and 2, and Moving Minnie. Also the movie by Duke but I can't recall the name of it. Help?? Let us know your favorites, remembering that the deadline for submission is Nov 1, 2009. We're not assured how many, if any, will be shown. The notice is copied below.
And please calendar Thursday November 12, 2009 for the next SAMM meeting.
Bob and Sue White
Dear Sue and Bob,
Melinda Stone (USF) and Kathy Geritz (Berkeley Film Archive) are planning a new presentation of movies made by amateur clubs at a "For the Love of It" event next February. Even though most of the Northern California movie clubs are now defunct, they feel there are a lot of movies made during the last 10 years or so that would be of interest to fans in the Bay Area. I know that the movies made by the Sacramento club and screened at Inter Club Contests are superior examples of the art, and I would like to offer them to Melinda and Kathy as candidates for screening at this event. Do you have DVD copies of such movies that you would be willing to put on the program. Please send me a list of titles and running times as soon as possible. The deadline for setting the program is Nov. 1.
By the way, thank you for the information about the ABC Cinema Digital Film Course. It sounds interesting. I note that you have sent the information to Frank Swanson and Bill Mannion of the Viewfinders Digital Video Club (in Cupertino), that is the only surviving amateur movie club in the Bay Area. I'm sure that they will respond to your message. When I see them, I will remind them of this issue.
I look forward to hearing from you. All the best,
Bernie
