EDITOR'S NOTE:

Lots of film projects are starting production as we speak – and we are looking forward to seeing the fruits of your creative talents on screen soon.  The Sac Music Seen listening party for filmmakers is coming on April 18th (see item #6 below) and that is always a great way to connect with other filmmakers and crew who are up to the creative and competitive film challenge. DTE’s newest entertainment TV series ‘Up All Nite’ is getting underway and the producers held a very successful casting event last weekend, and we have new studios cropping up as well.  It’s a good time to be creating in Sactown!

See you out there…

– Laurie Pederson, CFAA Director

ITEMS THIS WEEK:

1) One Man Filmmaking – How to Do It All For Less Back to Top

Come to the monthly CFAA meeting on Tuesday April 21st at 7pm, and hear from filmmaker and TV cameraman Mike Carroll, who will provide tips, ideas, lessons learned and anecdotes as he shares his one-man filmmaking experiences.

As an independent filmmaker, it is imperative that you understand the many technical and creative processes and procedures of move making, and there is no better (or cheaper) way to learn than to take on all those tasks yourself!

Mike Carroll is a TV news and documentary cameraperson with 24 years experience, shooting for KCRA Channel 3 Reports since 1989. He partnered with Bonnie Bennett in 1999 to produce the documentary Dog Soldiers; with Michael Dryhurst to produce Year, a finalist in the 2006 Sundance Film Festival; and currently with Bonnie Bennett to produce the feature film Nightbeats for submission to film festivals and distribution on DVD and internet download.

The CFAA meetings are held at The Art Institute of Sacramento, located at 2850 Gateway Oaks Dr., Sacramento CA. Admission is free to CFAA members or $5 for non-members. All are welcome!

Mike is also teaching a course at UCD Extension called
‘Digital Cinema – Digital World’ (see item #18 below)

The next CFAA monthly script read/feedback forum will be held at 6:30 on Tuesday April 14th at The Art Institute, 2850 Gateway Oaks Drive, Sac 95833.

We will be reading a comedy written by Doug Coleman entitled Master Baiters (it has to do with fishing)!!! It is male heavy so we really need you chaps to turn up.

Please click here to contact me  if you are interested or available, let me know asap so I can ‘cast’ you in a role and get you on the list.

Thanks, and if you have any questions about this or wish to submit your script for consideration, please contact me.

Ruby Sketchley
CFAA Board / Script Read Coordinator

4) Fly Fishing Movie Coming to the Big ScreenBack to Top

Did you ever see the movie “A River Runs Through It?” Tom Skerritt narrated that movie and he narrates you through “Rivers of a Lost Coast.

The upper northern California coastal area is called “The Lost Coast.” It is, for the most part, terribly rugged territory.

Fly fishing in the early years, the late 1800s and early 1900s, was something pretty much unheard of. But, there were early pioneers to the sport such as the legendary Virgil Sullivan, Grant King and Bill Schaadt. It’s reported that in a few hours of fishing one day, Sullivan caught 27 steelhead on the Russian River that fed his family and his needy neighbors.

Today, the Russian River and most others don’t support the fishery of yesterday. But, in this chronicled movie, you can see how many of the rivers were fished by anglers in the infancy of fly fishing.

Produced by Sacramento filmmakers Justin Coupe and Palmer Taylor of Skinny Fist Productions, this movie is a must-see for fly anglers. It will be at the Crest Theater in Sacramento only on April 22-23 with showings at 5:30 and 8 p.m.

Nick Trivundza: is an art director who specializes in motion graphics, design, and animation. Want an amazing title sequence to start your film or a graphic epilogue to wrap up the ending? Nick can make sure it flows with the film and the look works with all of your advertising, web, and print needs.

Jon Northcraft: is an award winning sound designer and audio engineer with a line up of twelve feature films behind him.

Ryan Todd: is a freelance director & editor as well as a production supervisor working with Naissance to ensure that all of our shoots look beautiful.

Lexie Findarle: is a producer with a background in the world of accounting. Scheduling a shoot and keeping it on budget can sometimes seem impossible - but with a history of accounting and million dollar budgets, this isn't a problem.

10) Rootclip – recommended film website Back to Top

(From Terri Dawn Arnold, TDA Entertainment)

I think local filmmakers might be interested in Root Clip, It is a fun way to make movies and win prizes.

Sincerely,
Terri Dawn Arnold, M.Ed.
TDA Entertainment

Rootclip.com was created to give filmmakers, writers, actors and anybody who just likes to watch movies the ability to collaborate on a video project. Our goal is to be the catalyst that gets people thinking and being creative with video in such a way that it infects the masses and brings a new life to the art of filmmaking. Get creative and show us what you've got!

How it works

We create a short video clip or "Rootclip" to start the story. You watch our video, then shoot your own rendition of what should happen next in less than 2 minutes. Once you've created your video, upload it to Rootclip.com during the submission period and compete for votes against the videos from other users. Gain the highest percentage of user and judge votes during the voting period and your video becomes the next chapter in the story.
