EDITOR'S NOTE:
Hello Spring! Hello Wind! Hello Allergies! Sigh…
But this too shall pass. And in the meantime, there is a ton of filmmaking
activity and creative stuff happening in spite of the runny noses and
watery eyes! Most importantly, I am hearing of so many great
connections being made, new partnerships being formed and lots of cross
support going on, and it makes me proud of our film community. I often get
comments from new members and people who have experienced different film
environments - and they love that we actually HAVE a community here that
supports each other and I agree that is what makes Sacramento so uniquely special. Keep
paying it forward…
See you next
week…
– Laurie Pederson, CFAA Director

Justin Coupe
& Palmer Taylor
Skinny Fist Productions, LLC.
All activities are at the Big Idea Theatre, 1616 Del Paso Blvd
(in the same complex as Fran’s Cafe and the Supper Club, across Del
Paso and a little east of KFC).
Workshops are monthly on Sundays at 7:00 PM on dates
to be announced. There are no dues, fees or other charges for
participating.
Staged readings may be scheduled occasionally by playwrights.
A $5 suggested contribution will help the playwrights offset their
expenses.
On
Saturday, April 4, at 7:30 PM, Roberta Blagg
will present a staged reading of "Missing Pieces."
Synopsis: In 1998 a group of 6 people in their 50's meet in St. Louis Missouri
for a college reunion after 30 years. Because the bonds of early adulthood
are strong, they all return to renew their friendships, tell their stories,
explore the ways time and trouble have taken their toll, and recapture
their dreams.
At the Sunday, April
19, workshop, Michael Von Haenel's "Agent
of God" will be read and discussed.
At the Sunday,
May 3, workshop, Michelle Cruff's "Clocks
and Elephants" will be read and discussed.
on Saturday,
May 16, Donya Wicken will present a staged
reading of "Magnetic Women."
The June workshop will be on June 7.
"The Playwrights Collaborative is an organization of writers,
actors, directors and others interested in the theater, working together to
promote the development and production of new plays in Sacramento and elsewhere. Through a
cooperative process of peer review, Playwrights Collaborative assists in
making plays ready for production and helps in finding suitable venues
where shows might be performed."
WORKSHOPS:
At each workshop, original plays by local writers are read and discussed as
are ways to promote deserving works for production. Several theaters
have expressed an interest in producing one new original play per year and
Playwrights Collaborative has encouraged similar interest by other theatres
in the area. There will also be occasional speakers with expertise in
various aspects of theater.
STAGED READINGS:
Playwrights participating in the once-a-month Sunday workshops will
be scheduling occasional "staged readings" of plays
that have been developed sufficiently to be ready for production. A
staged reading is a play production with the actors holding scripts.
Playwrights Collaborative invites interested writers and actors to attend
and take part in the workshop readings which can lead to invitational
staged readings of new works. The group actively promotes new plays
to prospective producers. Following each reading, comments and
suggestions for improvement will be solicited from all who are present.

Digital videography has evolved quickly from simple home movies to IMAX
productions to the accessibility and popularity of YouTube videos. In
fact, many new independent films presented in film festivals are now
created digitally with camcorders for just a few thousand dollars.
Each week, examine films that show the progression and evolution of the
digital filmmaking world and study the blending of filmmaking styles. View,
analyze and discuss in class a variety of digital productions including
independent and foreign films, documentaries, current TV shows and even
your own YouTube videos. You'll also learn about the technology of digital
filmmaking and leave with ideas of how you, yourself, might participate in
the world of digital video.

NEW LATE-NIGHT ENTERTAINMENT
SHOW HOLDS AMERICAN IDOL-STYLE AUDITIONS FOR TV HOST IN SACRAMENTO
UP ALL NITE is holding an open American Idol-style audition to discover a
fresh new face to host the new late-night entertainment and nightlife
program.
Auditions
are from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 4 in front of Macy’s in Downtown Plaza, 547 L St., Sacramento,
CA 95814.
The audition is open to men and women, ages 21 to 35, with the right look,
vibe, enthusiasm and confidence to co-host an entertainment show.
UP ALL NITE is an exciting new late-night TV show debuting in Sacramento. The
30-minute show is described as entertaining and edgy and features guest
celebrities and field reporters covering the hippest, most daring
entertainment, music, nightclub, restaurant, sports, fashion and pop
culture news in the Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto markets.
UP ALL NITE is the brainchild of director-writer Deon Taylor, whose film
catalogue includes the soon-to-be-released Chain Letter starring Nikki Reed
(Twilight) and Keith David and The Hustle starring Charlie Murphy, Al
Shearer and David Alan Grier. He says the show is like nothing Sacramento has ever
had – and will wow viewers. Taylor
also is the creative force behind Nite Tales, an ironic, eerie TV series in
the style of Twilight Zone soon coming to cable and hosted by hip-hop
legend Flavor Flav.
UP ALL NITE is sure to create a buzz among people who’ve always
dreamed of being on TV and being part of something new and exciting,”
Taylor
said. A segment on the open auditions will air on the UP ALL NITE show.
Everyone who auditions should show up at noon with two 15- to 20-second
audition pieces showing your skills as a host and bring the following:
1)
a headshot or photo with your name, phone and email on the back,
2) an
entertainment resume OR a written paragraph and
3)
sign a release at the event allowing UP ALL NITE to use the audition

JDA Production Studios is
putting together a stunt team for use in action sequences in feature films
shot locally in Northern California. They
have currently recruited several members and are looking for both males and
females with stunt, gymnastics, precision driving, combat and martial arts
experience to become part of a unique team of professionals in the
industry.
JD Ayers, a 20 year veteran in the motion picture industry, along with
other stunt professionals in the industry will train the group to provide
the film community with over 40 years of stunt experience for films, videos
and print.
Due to the rigorous specialized training members will face, certain
criteria must be met before being considered and need to go through a basic
one day training course to evaluate the potential candidate for the team.
The one day training evaluation will consists of stunt safety, body
coordination, rolls, falls, fight elements, weapon handling and more. Each
individual must be very athletic and in good physical shape with excellent
hand/eye coordination and mental mindset for stunt work. This is a very
demanding field and requires a sincere passion and dedication.
Interested candidates should contact JDA Production Studios at:
