Subject: [SAMM] Happy New Year

As the subject line says, "Happy New Year." I hope everyone in the
club had a pleasant holicay season.

The Capitol Film Arts Alliance newsletter had an announcement for a
filmmaking class through UC Davis Extension. I went to the extension
site and copied out the course description:
====================================================
Independent Filmmaking: How to Make a Movie Without a Crew

It doesn’t take a Hollywood budget to produce a great movie. Whether
you’re serious about filmmaking or just dabbling, this course
delivers practical, step-by-step guidelines for making a
professional, full-length motion picture. In eight weeks, learn about
all aspects of filmmaking: script development, observing the world as
a cinematographer, location scouting, filming, editing footage and
polishing your finished product. You don’t need professional
equipment to take this course; just bring your mini-DV, camcorder, or
even a cell phone or digital camera that allows video recording.
Apply the direct working methods you learn in this course and create
your own festival- or DVD-worthy film.

Instructor: Mike Carroll is a TV news and documentary cameraperson
with 24 years experience, shooting for KCRA Channel 3 Reports since
1989. He partnered with Bonnie Bennett in 1999 to produce the
documentary Dog Soldiers; with Michael Dryhurst to produce Year, a
finalist in the 2006 Sundance Film Festival; and currently with
Bonnie Bennett to produce the feature film Nightbeats for submission
to film festivals and distribution on DVD and internet download.

When: Jan. 12-March 9: Mon., 7-9 p.m. (No meeting Jan. 19 or Feb. 16.)

Where: Sutter Square Galleria, 2901 K St, Sacramento, CA

Fee: $275.00 ($290.00 if postmarked after 12/29/2008).

Special Discount fee: $261.00 for organizations enrolling three or
more people at the same time in the same course. All registrations
must be submitted at the same time and fees paid with one check,
credit card or purchase order.

$261.00 for Groups. California Film Arts Association affiliation
discount.

Section: 083ART108

Just so you know

Erick
