Fellow SAMM Email Group Members,

Below is a press release on the play I am in. I understand that a
video will be made of this play, and I will get a copy. I hope so; it
is a great play, and parts of it are hilarious.

I hope that some of my fellow SAMM members will come to this play.

Press release:
CALIFORNIA STAGE Ray Tatar Artistic Director
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
California Stage is a non- profit
professionally oriented theatre company.

February 2 2008
Contact: Susan Pikowsky (Sacramento, California) 916-451-5822
California Stage set to premiere a new translation of Molière's'
"Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme Or
The Middle Class Aristocrat!"

Playgoers will be able to see this short comedy twice--in French and
then in English—IN ONE NIGHT! "You don't need to know how to speak
French to get the fun out of this play." says Director Ray Tatar, the
story is clear and the dialogue is carried along by hilarious physical
comedy. We set the play first set in 18th Century Paris and then in
Damon Runyons' New York City of the Roaring 20's. California Stage
Company takes a classic masterpiece of ironic substance and style,
plays it for you in the original with powdered wigs and feverish
comedy and then translates it with the manners and mores of a later
era, equally as madcap. Ray Tatar's resetting of Molière's Le
Bourgeois Gentilhomme provides for a great evening of laughter.

This farce pokes fun at the rising merchant class during Molière's
time. Tatar says, "The play easily adapts to your funny bone in either
language because the comic themes about newly rich seeking the
trappings of the cultured class is an American theme as well". All the
characters were conceived in the French classic tradition, and like
Shakespeare's individuals, are archetypes. Molière's' fiery lovers,
braggart captains, misanthropes, snooty servants, and angry fathers
are filled with deeply felt passions and ideas that ring true for all
ages.

James C. Anderson plays the role of Monsieur Jourdain, clothed in
bright colors trimmed with silver lace and multicolored feathers. The
cast includes veteran actors, Bonnie Antonini, Liam Powers, Paula
Campanella, Jessica Nufeld, Marie Mayssonnier, George Michel, Pastrick
Beech, Daniel Richer, Pavel Shabunin, Julian Sandoval, Matt Bullock
and Mark Heckman who co-directs with Ray Tatar.

California Stage will produce this play with support from The Alliance
Française of Sacramento, a local gathering place for people interested
in all aspects of France and French speaking cultures. Director of the
Alliance Beatrice Hildebrand says, "The Alliance has had great success
with Molière's plays as they are a great introduction to anyone
interested in French. "

Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme plays February 29 through March 22. Regular
show times are Friday and Saturday at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm.
Tickets cost $20.00 for General Admission, and $15.00 for seniors,
students, and SARTA members. Special discounts for French students and
groups. California Stage is located at 1723 25th Street (enter on 25th
Street between Q and R) in Midtown Sacramento. Easy free parking
available. Phone: 916-451-5822 for reservations.
