Fellow SAMM Email Group Members,
A few months ago I talked with David "D" Miles, leader of the San
Francisco Friday Night Skate. He told me that he was no longer doing
videos for Access. Instead he was putting most of his videos on You Tube.
I have been playing with this a little. I think David is largely
right. Access Sacramento is still a valid platform for showing video,
but You Tube is an even better way to get video to the world.
Some advantages of using You Tube:
1. You have to register, but the service is free.
2. You Tube will automatically convert our videos to the Flash format.
3. They will load quickly for our viewers.
4. They will play smoothly for our viewers.
5. We won't have to host large video files ourselves.
6. Being in Flash, they will play automatically in about 95% of the
existing browsers.
7. You Tube gets millions of clicks; people will stumble onto our
videos. If a link to our SAMM website is included with each of our
You Tube videos, more people will visit our website and learn about
SAMM. You Tube is a great increaser of website traffic.
8. Millions of people see You Tube videos. Not just a few people at
a film contest.
9. After we upload our videos to You Tube, we can link to them from a
central location, such as:
http://www.samm.netfirms.com/
Winning a film contest with 20 old contestants is OK. Making video
that reaches the world is even better. You Tube can help. That's how
I see it.
