I am writing to invite you to a FREE film screening of Rebecca Sommer's Hunted Like Animals on Tuesday, October 30th, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at the Crest Theatre () in downtown 1013 K Street . Sacramento
Hunted Like Animals is an eye-opening documentary about the ongoing human rights violations of the Hmong people in the jungles of. Laos
As veterans of the Vietnam War attest, the Hmong people and soldiers who fought with thesaved countless American lives. When the United States United States withdrew, the Hmong inbecame targets of retaliation and human rights violations which continue to this day. Laos
In this documentary, the refugees speak for the thousands of voiceless people still trapped in the jungle. Many Hmong also fled toThailand where they live in refugee camps and now face forced deportation back to, fearful of further persecution. Laos
In August, I introduced Assembly Joint Resolution 36, the Hmong Human Rights Resolution, to urge the
United States government to take various actions at the international level to help the Hmong inLaos and. Working with the Hmong community, we are organizing this film screening, as well as a rally and lobby day at the State Capitol in January. Thailand
I hope you will be able to join us on October 30th to learn more about what we can do to support
Sacramento 's Hmong community in its effort to address the suffering of the Hmong inSoutheast Asia . Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the screening will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Please be aware that due to some disturbing scenes in the film, this screening is open to adult audiences only. A Question and Answer Session with filmmaker Rebecca Sommer and other experts on the topic will be held immediately following the screening.
