Greetings members of SAMM and cast for Stingy Jack
Progress report
1. I traveled to the bay area on Wednesday to check out some locations.
a. The Black Diamond Mine in Antioch is a possible alternate site
for the underworld
I talked to supervisor there. They reserve the mine for group
tours on weekdays.
They have had commercial movies shot there.
We would need a permit to film.
If Masonic Cave doesn't work out I will try to visit again on a
weekend.
b. The Pulgas Water Temple in Woodside is my first choice for "heaven".
They have signs posted saying that permits are required for events
and "professional photo shoots".
Don't know if we qualify but I am trying to get in touch with the
person in charge of such things.
Today her voice mail wasn't working.
While I was at the temple I did another test shot of the green-
screen-trap-door effect on the platform
using a piece of green screen cloth and sunlight. I t came out
better than my model.
2. In other news
c. I had ordered some artificial turnips from a British company.
This week they finally emailed me and
said that the postage would be £60! End of story.
d. I talked to the produce manager at the Davis COOP who gave me a
lead on their supplier of turnips,
Riverdog Farms in the Capay Valley. I talked to their manager.
They still have turnips in the ground.
I discussed filming the Jack vs. Farmer scene there and he was very
interested. He has to get
approval from the owners. If they have to harvest before we shoot
I will get them to store some of
them without removing the tops.
He was also interested in the possibility that SJ could be screened at
the fall festival they have there during the first week of October.
e. I will travel to Volcano tomorrow to meet the owner of Masonic Cave.
I will look at the caves in different lighting, the town for the
tavern scene, and the pa rk for
suitable trees for the tree scene.
f. If the owners of Riverdog Farms approve I will also visit them as
soon as possible to see if the
turnip patch will work. I will also look for trees there.
3. Here are two stills from my test shoot at the temple:
