The NCCAMC met at Michael's Restaurant in Mountain View for a banquet
and competition. The food and service was very good. I was the only
representative from SAMM.
There were 13 entries from 9 filmmakers representing 4 clubs. Only
Westwood Video Club was not represented. The printed program listed
all the entries as well as the 5 finalists. Only the top three films
were shown at the meeting and these were awarded certificates for
3rd, 2nd, and 1st place.
3rd place was won by Frank Swanson of Viewfinders for "Wedding
Memories". A wedding party poses for pictures. As each picture is
taken it freezes in a frame while the action goes on behind.
2nd place went to Virginia Misoff Viewfinders and San Jose for " The
Pantanal". A visit to a region of Brazil. Many species of wildlife
are observed.
1st place was awarded to Bart Wittekind who lives in Thailand but
remains a member of San Jose for "Bangkok Dolls". A Thai dollmaker
revives interest in national cultural institutions
A DVD containing all entries was given out to every participant and
to each club.
The board of directors met after the contest to discuss council
business. It was decided to hold off dissolving the corporation for
one more year as there is still enough money in the treasury to fund
at least one more contest. The consensus seems to be that when the
money is all spent the formal council should dissolve and from then
on the hosts should take full responsibility for each contest.
I will bring the DVD to the next meeting of SAMM. We can show some
or all of the movies and discuss whether we want to make copies for
interested members.
