There were no DVD's to view in January. instead we discussed ideas for a new project. Erick Lorenz intrigued us with the story of the origins of the "Jack-o-Lantern." It seems this Irishman of myth had many dealings with the Devil, which included various bargains and deals. Jack loses most of them, ending in Satan, out of pity bestowing a live coal to the unfortunate Jack who found himself doomed to live in total darkness. The original Jack-o-Lantern was a hollowed out turnip not, as in this day and age, a pumpkin. Erick has written a script about unlucky Jack, which could be our production for the autumn interclub contest. The story, Erick noted, could be enhanced with a variety of computer-created special effects.
The next SAMM meeting will be, 7PM on Thursday, February 8 2007 in the Jamestown Room. Bring your latest productions or whatever you have ready for us to enjoy. Please let us know if you can't be there.
Hope to see you there,
Bob and Sue White
