TO SAMM Members
SUBJECT: Minutes of 5-12-05 Meeting
We welcomed Duke McAdow to our meeting, glad to see him after a long absence.
A spirited and profitable discussion followed the decision to remake "On Being Homeless." It should be a fun movie to make with probably a number of improvisations on the set. I will ask for actors and actresses from the website SACACTORS.COM and hope we get a response similar to those responding to our message re. "A Time To Run." Our club members should contact me ASAP re their preference in working on the movie.
Specific suggestions; the couple who make the MISTAKE would be cast as impulsive, given to blaming one another for problems created, with both willing to make snap judgements and follow through on those decisions. As for the movers, a number of suggestions were made, principally that they could be brothers, and , one scenario could be, in charge because their father, the owner of the moving company, is away on a trip and has mistakenly entrusted decisions to the two air head sons. One brother would be more sensible, the other determined to show the father what a reliable person he really is. Of course, a series of foul ups occur which is the heart of the comedy. I will write a script to serve as a guideline knowing that changes plus improvisations will follow.
Two DVDs were shown, one by Herb Bennett, who treated us to a montage of Christmas scenes from Christmas 2004. The second by Erick Lorenz who had filmed a fire dance at "Whole Earth Day" at Davis, a production where the dancers with lighted torches in their hands did arresting choreographed routines. Both movies were applauded.
A quick message for Erick regarding the addition of commentary to "A Time To Run";.is it possible to start Sheila Hirsch’s remarks right after Ali gets in the escape car? I worry that with such extensive credits, the audience will get up and leave before the commentary. I would recommend this be done especially on those copies earmarked for high schools and similar audiences as well as social agencies who will be using ATTR for the benefit of their clients.
Will keep you informed of progress on the remake of "On Being Homeless."
