At the last meeting I mentioned that I had acquired a Goko telecine
projector. This is a projector that is designed to aim the beam
directly into the video camera thus bypassing the need for external
mirrors, lenses, and screens. It uses a 24 sided prism instead of a
shutter. This makes for a very silent operation and reduces flicker to
almost undetectable. I have been anxious to convert my library of
Super 8 films to video using this device but in reading up on the
process I came across articles that make a case for cleaning and
lubricating the film before each operation. I found some suppliers of
products for this purpose on the web but none are very local. The
quantities that are sold are for professional projectionists and
editors with miles of 35mm film to service not for people like me who
have maybe 10-12 Super 8 films tops.
So I thought I would ask the club. Is there anyone in the group that
used to make films that has a supply of film cleaner and/or lubricant.
I understand that some products serve both purposes. If anyone does
have some of this stuff let me know if I can beg or buy some of it from
you.
I will be bringing the machine to the next meeting so you can see what
it looks like and how it works.
