SAMMers
Although we didn't win the contest, I was pleased with the feedback that we got from the judges and members of other clubs. I wasn't sure how the movie would work as a teaching tool but the judge who spoke certainly had a strong (and positive) reaction to it in that reguard.
In keeping with her remark that the movie needs a less ambiguous conclusion I am thinking of, if not a sequel, then an epilogue. So as not to dilute the dramatic impact of the original movie it would be a secondary feature on the CD or tape.
It could consist of a series of phone conversations among Ali, Claudia, Ted, and the parents. Ted is trying to sweet talk Claudia into revealing Ali's whereabouts, Ali talks to Claudia and her parents about her new life in another city. She relates what she learned by going to a women's shelter there. The epilogue would also not have a pat conclusion. Real life goes on and is unpredictable but would show Ali coping with her new life and attitudes.
We could get expert information for this by interviewing a counsler at a real shelter.
Since we are no longer constrained by the requirements of the contestI would like to see if we could get support for this project and maybe pay the actors a little for their work. In return the sponsor would get credit and could have rights to distribute the finished product to agencies and schools for educational use.
Having the epilogue separate from the movie would make it really useful for teaching, for instance:
1. show the movie
2. lead a discussion
3. show the epilogue
4. answer questions.
Perhaps someone at an agency could contribute a PowerPoint presentation to include on the DVD for discussion or study.
Also I plan to bring my camera to the next meeting to do interviews with those of you who took part for the "making of" feature. Do you suppose that we could get the use of the studio?
