Hey very interesting to read everyones thoughts.
Firstly "Croeso Mawr i aelodau newydd o'r clwb." Welcome to all our
new memebers.
OK the question of Burton being buried in Switzerland. Yes here in
Wales there is quite a lot of resentment about Richard being so far
away from home even to this day.
We must remember that Burton and Sally Hay had only been married for
a short time and I think we didn't want anyone steeling her thunder.
Remember at the time the papers were full of expectations of the
meeting of the four Burton wives. Everyone was desperate to see
Elizabeth at the funeral but to her credit she stayed away. She did
come to Wales to attend a memorial service and she stayed in an
ordinary two up two down terraced home. I like most Burton fans blame
Elizabeth for a lot of Richards problem but I do admire her for the
way she conducted herself at the time of Richards death. She has said
that she would like to be buried in Wales and after all she is
English.
I remember an interview she gave whilst in Britain about 1989. She
looked very regal and wore a dark blue velvet dress and a diamond
brooch in the shape of the Prince of Wales feathers. When asked that
if Richard had lived did she think that they would have got together
again, she simply said, 'One day I'm sure we will.'
I still think that it's one of the greatest love stories but then
again maybe I'm just a romantic fool.
Well to close I think Sally Hay was determined not to be over looked
in favour of Elizabeth at Richards funeral and so decided to leave
him in Switerland, Richard was if nothing else a very very proud
Welshman, therefore I think all other reasons dont really hold water.
