Hi, Rob.
I' ll try to answer your questions as best I can. Yes, my husband has told me
for years that Morris is, indeed, a Welsh name. I can't say I've run across it
much in my readings--but since I mainly read about R.B. it may be possible that
the name is not so prevalent in South Wales. Do you know anything about this?
FYI, I have two sons. The elder is called Thomas--hey, at least it's a Welsh
last name. The younger one is called Gareth. As far as I know, I don't have a
drop of Welsh blood in my body.
West Virginia is not the western part of the state of Virginia. It is a
separate state, thanks to the civil war. Virginia, of course, was for the
southern cause; West Virginia by and large, was not. I do believe you are
correct, Virginia was named for the "Virgin Queen."
Do I have a hillbilly accent? That depends on your point of view. I'm sure the
U.S. has 1,000s of distinct dialects. The people in the southern part of W.V.
would probably think I have a northern accent (I am very near to Pittsburgh,
P.A.), while people north of me would think the opposite.
I'll make a deal with you, you don't call me a hillbilly, and I won't call you
Taffy! Just kidding...
I am actually taking a short break from school as I have a two year-old. I have
a Bachelors of Fine Arts in theatre from West Virginia University (Go
Mountaineers!). I originally wanted to act, but alas, no talent! I can,
however, write. I emphasized playwrighting and directing, and plan to go into a
Master's program in creative writing.
When did I first see R.B.? I'm not sure if you mean in person, or when was I
first made aware of him?
Last night, I was reading his account of the last rugby match he was in. Very
funny, and of course very well written. The man was so brilliant he could have
done absolutely anything!
