Hi and welcome to the group!
Wow, you work for the BBC and still can't find a copy? That really makes it
seem like there's little hope, haha! I don't think I recall seeing it on
DVD in the US. I *think* I saw it on VHS, but it woulda been long ago.
According to this site:
http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/movie/pid/5429001/a/Becket.htm
It'll be available on the 4th of January. So I gues they're just now
getting around to putting it on DVD. DVD is the new and improved format,
but they take their time putting everything onto it. All the older things
get left behind. ANd people wonder why some of us still buy VHS.

Subject: [RichardBurton] Becket
Dear all,
Its' great to have joined up and found likeminded fans and admirers of the
greatest actor ever.
Over the years, and I'm now 34, I've collected pretty much every Burton film
on VHS and those on Region 2 DVD, however, I've never been able to get thew
brilliant Becket. I've obviously seen Becket about five years ago, and it is
great -- and to be honest I am surprised that a film that got 11 Oscar
nominations is so rare on VHS and DVD. I#ve heard rumours that its out in
the US on DVD from New Years Eve but I knw the VHS is very rare in the UK.
Anyone got any good pointers?
As a former producer for the BBC for several years I even did a couple of
radio specials about Burton and not one of my researchers could track down a
copy of Becket except for a couple of copies available to rent from really
obscure rental shops who obvuiously wouldn't sell on those copies.
Anyway, glad to be part of this group, and as someone who was so incredibly
inspired by Burton's force, presence and talent as an actor; that I actually
did a drama degree and was doing pretty well as a theatre actor until I
jacked it in to join the BBC several years ago; I think Burton is too oft
forgotten in our pantheon of great actors and its about time they gave him a
posthumous honourary Oscar!
Regards,
Haroon Baig,
