Hiya guys,

Here is a letter I recieved from The National Assembly for Wales.
Could I suggest that we all pitch in and write, e-mail or contact in
any other way to try and get a statue erected?
Here's the letter.

Dear Mr Morgan

I refer to your emailed correspondence addressed to Alun Pugh,
Minister for Culture, Welsh Language and Sport dated 12 November
2004, concerning the proposed erection of a statue of Richard
Burton. I have been asked to reply.

We are always pleased to see the achievements of famous Welsh people
commemorated and statues seem to be a popular and effective method
of doing so. Having said that, as you can imagine the Welsh Assembly
Government receives many requests to assist in the funding of these
statues and it is impossible to offer assistance to any one
particular scheme.

Assembly Government funding for the arts in Wales is normally
channelled through the Arts Council of Wales. I would therefore
suggest you contact the Arts Council as soon as possible, if you
have not already done so, to discuss whether or not there are any
funding possibilities within their existing schemes. The Arts
Council is also able to provide practical advice on marketing and
other sources of funding. Contact details are as follows:

The Arts Council of Wales
Museum Place
Cardiff
CF10 3NX

Tel: 029 2037 6500
Fax: 029 2037 1447
Email: info@...

A further potential source of advice include the Heritage Lottery
Fund which supports activities that are designed to increase
learning about our heritage, for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Contact details are:

Jennifer Stewart
Manager for Wales
Heritage Lottery Fund
Suite 5A, Hodge House
Guildhall Place
St Mary`s Street
Cardiff
CF10 1DY

Tel: 029 2023 4151
Fax: 029 2037 5950
www.hlf.org.uk

There is a general lottery website at www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk
that may also be of assistance for guidance and funding purposes.

You may also wish to consider approaching the Wales Tourist Board as
Tommy Cooper has a strong British profile, something that could
possibly be exploited further. Their contact details are:

Wales Tourist Board
Brunel House
2 Fitzalan Road
Cardiff
CF24 0UY

Tel: 029 2049 9909

I am sorry that I could not be more helpful on this occasion but
wish you every success with your venture.

Yours sincerely
Andrew Stevenson
Directorate for Culture, Welsh Language and Sport
