Hey, everyone,
Rachel's site has some good news and some new music:
1. Rachel has been cast as one of the Pigeon sisters in the Reprise!
staged reading of "The Odd Couple" starring Jason Alexander and Martin
Short. Performance dates are Jan. 25-26 in LA. Check the site
(www.rachelyork.net) for details.
2. A couple of songs from the Philly Pops concert are also now in her
music player - "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" and "Back to Before." Turn
the volume up since the concert was recorded live. She sounds g-r-e-a-t.
Happy New Year!

Hello, all,
Rachel, Kip Wilborn and William Michals, along with guest conductor
Don Pippin, put on a wonderful show with the Eastern CT Symphony
Orchestra on Saturday. It was very cold in the theater, but the stars
heated things up pretty quickly. :-)
We all know how versatile Rachel is, and she got to show off her
belt, her comedy, and her glorious soprano all in one show. Kip is an
opera star with a beautiful, strong tenor, and William has a very
rich baritone. They blended together very well.
They began with a trio of Give My Regards to Broadway, then each got
to show off with a solo. Kip sang With a Song in My Heart, Rachel did
a knockout Don't Rain on My Parade, then William crooned Taking a
Chance on Love. They all came back together for a really fun Anything
You Can Do, with Rachel going through the rafters as the one who
could sing higher, and Kip and William holding a note for an eternity
as they tried to prove who could sing longer. William won! The
orchestra gave the singers a break by doing an instrumental of Orange
Blossom Special, then William came back with The Impossible Dream,
Kip followed with an operatic piece (sorry, don't know what it was),
and they all closed Act I with a tribute to Richard Rodgers.
Act II opened with a fun Be Our Guest with all three of them singing
in French accents. Cute. I could just picture Rachel as the feather
duster. :-)
Then the three launched into powerful solos again. William did a very
moving If I Can't Love Her from Beauty and the Beast that got the
audience cheering. Then Kip came out and said, "Oh, great, I have to
follow that?" And he proceeded to deliver a fantastic Being Alive. I
was sitting there thinking, "What on Earth can Rachel possibly do to
top that?!" Well, she did, with a hilarious and incredible Diva's
Lament from Spamalot. The audience roared!
Then they did a trio of Under the Sea, and Rachel improvised some
calypso dancing around the two guys. Adorable. The orchestra took
over for another instrumental of the theme from Beauty and the Beast,
then Kip sang a magnificent rendition of Nessun Dorma from Turandot.
Hints of Pavarotti were in the air. Sigh. Rachel came back with Back
to Before (I just love her version of that song), and William
finished with Music of the Night from Phantom. Rachel and Kip joined
him for the last few bars. They got a standing O, then came back on
for an encore, Circle of Life. Another standing O followed.
It's funny. Troughout the show the men were sort of all about their
voices, singing somewhat seriously like big male divas. And then
there's Rachel - this incredible spark plug who injected real life
into the proceedings all the while matching the guys' vocal chops
note for note. After the show the crowds were swarming around her in
the lobby. All three were signing autographs and chatting, but people
really seemed to linger more with her. You look at Rachel's fans'
faces when she talks with them, and they simply glow with joy.
In parting, here are a couple of reviews of the show. Enjoy!

It was fun to see Rachel perform her show at Feinstein's last night -
she did an hour of some wonderful songs - two from her CD-also songs
from "Summer of 42", Victor Victoria, City of Angels as well as a
great medly of Burt Bacharach songs.
Her stories are always fun to hear and I laughed again at the Liza
Minelli story (I had heard her tell that one before but it still makes
me laugh). She was also just adorable telling how she met her
boyfriend Ayal.
No one can imitate the voice of Julie Andrews better than Rachel and
she does a great Liza as well as Cher too.
So, it was a fun night and wonderful to hear Rachel again and have her
back here in NYC for just this short period of time.

Hi,
There's a great interview with Rachel on the Broadway Bullet podcast
(www.BroadwayBullet.com). It's Volume 132, Oct. 11. Here's a link to
the page that describes it. Click "listen to the show online" to listen
now or click "add to iTunes" in order to download it onto your computer
for future listening.

She talks about her upcoming Feinstein's gig (Sunday and Monday, Oct.
14 and 15) and about various career highlights. They play two songs,
too - "Promise of the Morning" from "Summer of '42" and "Too Good to Be
True" from her album, "Let's Fall in Love."
Enjoy!

Hey, all,
I went to the Philly Pops Broadway Showstoppers concert this weekend.
It was outstanding. Rachel, Lisa Vroman and Doug LeBreque sang
beautifully, plus Peter Nero and his orchestra played wonderfully (with
the exception of The Lion King opener, which sounded kind of thin).
I have posted a detailed review on the BWW message board. Here's the
link:
http://www.broadwayworld.com/board/readmessage.cfm?thread=949334&dt=3
Rachel looked and sounded spectacular. Her back to back Diva's Lament
and Back to Before were crowd favorites.
Feinstein's is next! Oct. 14 and 15. What a treat to see Rachel perform
in concert two weeks in a row. :-)
lc
BWW called Rachel's performance "a dream come true." Can't wait for
Feinstein's!

Gosh, this really is a great interview. Loved the Sound of Music
story, in particular. But the whole thing was wonderful. She's just
so warm and funny and smart.
Here's a link to another interview, this time on the LA NPR
affiliate, KPFK-FM 90.7, the Arts in Review program. It aired live
today (Thursday, Sept. 6) and will be in the station's web archives
for the next 89 days. They played four songs - well, three plus a
tease. The interviewer sounded truly enamored with Rachel's voice -
but of course!

Scroll down to Arts in Review to the appropriate date. Then
click "play" to listen or right-click "download" and hit "save target
as" to keep it on your computer.
Also, Rachel was interviewed by Leeza Gibbons this week. How cool is
that? Her segment will air via Westwood One on the syndicated radio
show, "Hollywood Confidential." I can't find a station list anywhere,
but I'm told it airs in LA this Sunday from 6-9 p.m. on KBIG-FM Radio
104.3. Rachel's segment is somewhere in the 7 p.m. time slot.
If any of you folks on the West Coast will be seeing Rachel's cabaret
at Sterling's Upstairs this Sunday, Sept. 9 or next Saturday, Sept.
15, please post your reviews. (Joanie, this means you!) :-)

That's lovely LC :-)
Have a wonderful birthday Rachel; it's hot and sunny here in the UK,
for the first time in weeks! I trust the weather is as nice for you on
your special day. I do hope you can come back and perform here soon.
Lots of love and good wishes for the future.

Rachel will be making her debut at the very elegant Feinstein's at
Loew's Regency supper club in NYC on Sunday, October 14 and Monday,
October 15. Doors open for dinner at 6:30 p.m. The show starts at 8:30
p.m. Tickets are $40.
Rachel will perform her one-hour cabaret act, "For the Love of It,"
featuring her favorite jazz and pop standards, numbers from some of her
most notable Broadway shows, and songs from her solo album "Let's Fall
in Love." This is the same show she will be presenting in LA at
Sterling's Upstairs on September 9 and 15.
Seating at Feinstein's is limited to 140. Tickets may be purchased by
phone or online. Here's the link for more information:
http://feinsteinsattheregency.com/performance.php?id=103
I'm suggesting we might want to gather a group together for the Monday
performance. It will probably be a little more low-key than the Sunday
opening. If you get tickets, let me know. Perhaps we can arrange for a
group table.

Hey, all you left coast fans,

long show starts at 8 p.m. Reservations are required and can be made by
calling 818-981-3077.

Rachel will be performing at a couple of great concert venues in the
fall.
Sept. 30 and Oct. 3, 5, 6 and 7 she'll be headlining the Broadway
Showstoppers concert with the Philly Pops (www.phillypops.org).
Oct. 14-15 she'll be bringing her cabaret act to Feinstein's at the
Regency in NYC (www.feinsteinsattheregency.com).
She'll be ending her stay with the Camelot tour in Pittsburgh on July
22. She continues to get rave reviews in every city. I haven't
counted, but many, many critics have used the terms "radiant"
and "luminous," and tons have compared her favorably to Julie
Andrews. I saw the show again in Philly, and she is still finding
wonderful little nuances for Guenevere. She is truly stunning in the
role.
And she's a redhead again! Well, a brunette with a red henna. She
looks great. :-)
The final tour cities are Ft. Lauderdale through June 24; Toronto
June 27 through June 30 (with a possible added matinee performance
July 1); Vienna, VA (Wolftrap) July 10-15; and Pittsburgh July 17-22.
If you can possibly get to one of these cities, by all means, do so.
Rachel is giving a performance that is not to be missed.
Enjoy!

Two of Rachel's movies - One Fine Day and Lucy - will be aired on
cable TV this week. Here's the schedule:
Sun. June 3 3:00 PM FAM (179) One Fine Day
Mon. June 4 8:30 AM HDNETMV (834) Lucy
Tue. June 5 8:00 PM FAM (179) One Fine Day
The station numbers refer to the Boston area. Check you local
listings for dates, times and channels.
And just as a bonus, here are a couple of Camelot review quotes from
the Dallas area:
"Rachel York sings Guenevere with such strength and purity you can
actually forget Julie Andrews for the moment. She has a radiant stage
presence, as well."
"As Guenevere, Rachel York will make you forget that Dame Julie
Andrews created the role or that Vanessa Redgrave played her so
luminously on film."
Cheers,
lc
...but not so much the rest of Camelot.
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment_stage_theat/2007/05/theat
er_review_.html
"Only the splendid Rachel York...makes her character shine. Her lovely
Guenevere is full of spirit and as changeable as a foolish girl who is
turning into a headstrong young woman, and that womanly performance is
all the stronger because of her glorious, full-bodied voice. York makes
Guenevere a real person. Maybe, just maybe, Camelot would seem more
than a myth if the rest of the cast could do the same."
lc
The Orlando Sentinel has a very nice, long interview with Rachel in the
Sunday edition. Camelot opens there this week.
I love the part about all the animals her family owned while living
there. :-)

Both the Tribune and Sun Times praise Rachel as the best thing in the
show.
Sun Times:
"But then there is Rachel York -- a thoroughly modern Guenevere (and a
great beauty), with a voice both velvety and stratospheric. She lights
up the stage with her ability to move, think, react and phrase her
songs with total immediacy."
Tribune:
"And thanks to the fabulous Rachel York (no relation, but the best
thing in this show), Guenevere now feels like a much fuller woman."

Hi, all,
According to the Internet Movie Database, two of Rachel's TV movies
will be repeating soon. Here's the info:
Sun. May 6 12:00 PM LIFE (120) Second Honeymoon
Mon. May 7 10:00 AM HDNETMV (834) Lucy
These times/channels are specific to the Boston area, so you should
check your local listings or plug in your own zip code on the imdb
search tool to find out when they air in your market.
Camelot just opened in Chicago last night, so I'll be posting reviews
soon. Chicago is a huge theater town, so these reviews will be
important. Chris Jones from the Chicago Tribune is notoriously picky.
Stay tuned.
